Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I got screwed by the 2 days of PTC offtime, but I'm up to Level 14. My strongest is a 911 Flareon and a 678 Venomoth I just caught.

Really not sure when to bite the bullet and start upgrading. Always feel like I'll catch something better later.

The way you use the nearby box is...

1. Open box, look for Pokemon you want
2. Walk around till that Pokemon changes spots.
2a. If it moves toward the top left, keep walking that direction.
2b. If it moves away or off the list. Turn around and try a different direction. Go back to 2.
3. Once close enough the "tracks" will drop to 2 steps. It should be pretty easy to find at that point.
3a. Less steps? Keep going till zero.
3b. More steps? Turn around, try a different direction.

That's really it. Top left is closest to your location, bottom right is farthest WHEN THE NEARBY LIST IS OPEN. When the nearby list is closed the RIGHTMOST Pokemon is closest whereas the LEFTMOST is farther away.

My local park 30mins ago:
1 group of 7 people sitting on the curb
4 cars
1 teen girl walking in circles
2 alone boys

and its 5:30pm in the middle of winter

This is actually what I do.

My issue is that 1 track is like less than a block, 2 tracks is 1-2 blocks, and 3 tracks can be anywhere over 4-5 blocks.

3 track on the radar are almost impossible to track down effectively.

These steps are bugging the he'll out of me. Anyone know about how many feet is one step?
Rarer pokemon seem to come out late at night.
By my estimation, it's 100 feet per paw/print. 3 paws is 300 feet at its closest but because it uses three paws for everything beyond 300 feet, I don't know what the max is for it to still be visible on the list.

I imagine its by circular distance, so maybe within 600 feet in any given direction.

How bad is the data usage for this game? I've been playing, but I'm kinda worried about going over.
I've been playing for several hours per day since the day before it officially launched in the US and here's my data usage:

It's a pain, yeah, especially if there aren't a lot of Pokemon to use as references. I went for a walk tonight and ran into a dead zone and everything was 3 steps the entire way. I gave up trying to find anything at that point as I was way off track.

That's what happened to me looking for a Rhyhorn and Abra silhouettes. 7 other pokemon were on my radar and everything was 3 tracks.

Ended up finding a Machoke instead which just literally appeared out of nowhere.

Thanks. :)

Yeah i just started playing it since yesterday and I've only used 20megabytes.

There's a shitload of rhyhorns, grolithes and sandshrews by my house. If I walk towards the freeway I can catch zubats and geodudes.

I spent a good amount of time with my sister trying to find a charmander. It dissappeared after we stopped to catch a ponyta

shoutout to the UX designer. when you see the silhouette of something you don't have pop up in that nearby list, that compulsion to get up and leave your residence is some good shit.

I have a Samsung SGH-T999L and the google play store says it's not compatible with Pokemon Go. I went through a software update today, but it only got up to Android 4.3. Is there any hope of Pokemon Go being brought out to an expanded range of devices in the future, or a way to get my smartphone up to android 4.4.4, or am I just out of luck?

Out of luck unless you go custom ROM. I know someone with a galaxy note ii that flashed a 5.0 ROM just for this game but the GPS wigs out too frequently, so he uses a galaxy note 8 tab instead.

Edit: also disable superuser or find a ROM that's not rooted otherwise you may get in trouble. Other games like Summoners War bans accounts if they detect Super User access.

And then you run out of pokaballs.

Edit: THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME. ITS ALMOST 4am wat do Gaf?

Pokemon Go on Twitch is hilariously awful. Why even stream the game if you're going to be doing something else for the majority of the time? Dudes are playing rocketleague.

That was me just a few minutes ago trying to find a slowpoke near my work. But I was on a bike. I did get a couple magikarps... Only 130 more to catch! The slowpoke got away though. :(

I wasn't out at 3am, but I couldn't sleep and kept periodically checking Go from my bed. I even found a wild pidgey that invaded my bedroom!

I've finally spotted a pokéspot in my town, which was actually visible (but not useable) from my house all along. Unfortunately the route to the train station is rather inefficient.

What region are you in? If you're not in a country its been released in, the game will show up as incompatible on all your devices regardless.

mhhh to bad, my moto x play does not support the AR Mode, which would be the fun part for me. why do phonemakers have to be cheap about something so small

It's a shame how many streamers just sit at their desk spamming incense. One guy was GPS bouncing with incense the other day.

I do enjoy those streams of people actually going outside and streaming their adventures. Those are always pretty cool. Not many though.

Holy hell this game is popular.

Out at 7pm in winter on a sunday to walk the dog cough cough just happened to walk past a pokemon gym and while I was there, inside 15 minutes, I saw maybe 3 groups and two individuals all turn up and try to look casual as they were staring at their screen. Its insane.

So then I walked off until a desirable three footprint pokemon moved up the list and tracked it down like I was looking for MH370.

Went out tonight around 11pm until 2ish. There was about 10-15 people playing in a cemetery up the road from me. They had set some lures up and we were chatting about what pokemon we'd seen and the gym that was nearby. There was even a cop driving around playing.

Caught a couple slowpokes and a bunch of magikarp with the lures.

There is a golduck with three footprints outside my house and I don't have one yet.....this game is driving me insane.

Not sure what I should do.

I've only gotten slightly less-common Pokemon with Lures. Doesn't seem worth it to me so far. I've only sat in on two lures though. Otherwise it was a lot of Weedles, Evees, and nothing.

BOY! You are a lifesaver! Just caught a Wartortle following this shit

Your level does affect the Pokemon that show up. The higher your level the higher the chance of you finding rarer Pokemon.

There's a casino near by that has two gyms in close proximity that are both being run by the Valet mafia that work there.

It's absurd how strong the Snorlax there are.

Fuck my game froze while trying to catch an omanyte. Bleh. Gonna go to sleep and continue later. Only got 5 pokeballs left lol.
Lol. Walked to the kitchen and another appeared and was able to catch it.

Almost in the AM, i check the app and all of a sudden i see a Dragonair three steps away from me.
I dropped all my food to go get it but in the end the damn server problems screwed me over.
Still though, who the fuck runs out of their house at night to catch a pokemon lol. This fucking game man, amazing.

I overheard a few 20 something bros outside my window today looking for Pokemon in an alleyway. I haven't been so happy to be a Nintendo fan for a long time <3

How can I check a gym I claimed if I'm nowhere near it anymore? Should it be in my pokemon or something?
I don't think you can but if you lost the tower, your submitted Pokemon should return to your inventory with low hp. If your monster is still there, check your list and you'll see it has a little gym icon attached to its picture. The icon will be gone if it lost. Otherwise, if the gym not visible on the map, you can't check it's status as of yet.
