Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Colbert is riffing on the game right now.

Came here to post this. Man this game is big. What a time to be alive lol. It's almost midnight and a nearby park with 10 landmarks were empty. I put down one lure on a landmark that I could reach from my apartment and 10 minutes later, about 5 lures popped up! There are people runing around a park at midnight responding to a lure I put up in my pajamas!

Caught a Pinser with 689 CP making it the best poke I caught yet and it has fuckin Rock Smash for a move.

Bleh. Rough. I have an Electabuzz with low kick and I hate it. Makes fighting flying pokemon a lot more difficult than you'd expect with an Electric type.

I will say that Pokemon Go has me more interested in what Emily thinks of Speedy Blue Dude than I ever thought possible.
Cops came and joined in with like another 200 people at my local park. Even walking past the bar the other night, the security told us the positions of where Pokémon were. "Boys no Pokémon on this side of the bar, some on the other side near the back". Granted this was in Sydney, Australia so cops generally are top blokes
Sydney seems like the City of Pokemon to me. Hope to go one day soon.

So I was listening to z100 this morning and they were talking about it throughout the entire Elvis morning show.

Also today I had to stop at Home Depot to make copies of my keys, and as soon as I walked up to the person who does this, she asks me if I am playing Pokemon GO. I responded to her that I have it on my phone, then she says to me, someone told her a Pokemon was right next to her shop. So I whipped my phone out, and there a clefairy was. I was in another store today and a kid was playing, but since I was in the store before him and didn't see any Pokemon I just told him don't bother looking lol.

It's so crazy to me that Pokemon is really becoming more of a mainstream phenomenon right now, it's all I've been hearing about.

Did you download through an APK?

I lost all my shit but that was when I switched from alpha to the wide release

Still salty I lost all the Pokemon I captured in the alpha, and in addition I lost my alpha nickname. The price I had to pay to test that janky ass app fam

Nope my game crashed. I restarted it and it started me back at the professor.

Well nvm. I reinstalled the app and I got everything back. So weird.

Whelp there's a Squirtle and a Rhyhorn two prints away.... time to do my duty as an aspiring pokemon master

man i was looking at the other stuff posted in the FB group, there's this park in Altamonte Springs

that shit just looks so Pokemon to me, can't explain it

Got a Machamp, Muk and a Rhydon on my radar.

Its midnight and I live in the South Bronx.

I'm seriously contemplating if getting stabbed would really be so bad.

I tried to get xposed and shit to work in a second account. I still wanted a legit account and use the second for checking out locations, but the game immediately doesn't liked it when you activated mock locations

Yeah I tried that too. Someone elsewhere said they patched it so mocking location doesn't work anymore. I imagine you could probably do something with an Android emulator on Windows but I'm not trying to get that serious about it.

Just uninstalled the app at work. Heard people chatting about it. Realized it didn't feel like Pokemon, nor would it have enough staying power as the loop isn't that engaging.

I can see why the social aspects could get people, but I would rather laugh from the side lines.

I'll return if they make it feel like Pokemon, otherwise excited for Sun and Moon.

What are you laughing at? People are getting out, getting some exercise, and meeting people who would otherwise be strangers. What's there to laugh at?

I mean sure, the game is just bad in depth and mechanics, but can Sun and Moon give me the experience that Go is providing? No way.

You're laughing at people socializing and having fun?

Hahaha, right?

It's seems like every night around this time a rare Pokemon spawns at the poke stop nearest to my house. 2 days ago was a Magmar, yesterday was a Seadrya and now today a Kingler. Do I keep going out to get them or just let them be?

The conversations. Them complaining about the mechincs, it freezing during an important catch, their legs hurting, them not working etc.

This is why I'll never be a Pokemon Master. Once I'm inside, I'm inside.

Rhyhorn/Rhydon are my favorite Gen 1 ground types and while I've seen Rhyhorn's silhouette, I still haven't had him actually appear. :c

Sure, it's buggy and new and nothing of this scale has ever been attempted before. Not really anything funny there, to be honest. And legs hurting is actually a good thing, plenty of people are getting so much more exercise than they ever would have otherwise. Also nothing to laugh at.

Went for a late night Pokemon hunt and I wasn't alone here in NYC. I saw a lot of loners with their face glued to their phones, stopping, swiping up and keeping it moving. Lol

I am getting tired of the app freezing when I catch a Pokemon though.

I don't understand this. Live and let live why do you have to laugh at people enjoying themselves?

The general concept and phenomenon part of it are really exciting, but even outside of the server problems I feel like there's two things really holding it back. The first is the issue lots of others have said, that people who aren't in dense, urban areas will have slim pickings for both Pokemon and items and wind up at a disadvantage that way. That's easier to fix if they just let more kinds of Pokemon show up everywhere, regardless of density.

The other seems to be a sort of "rich get richer" feedback loop where outside of luck only the already strong can keep easily getting stronger faster, outpacing everyone else who didn't start early. For more powerful Pokemon you need a higher trainer level, which means you need XP, and the only way to really grind XP fast is to use things like Lucky Eggs on evolutions and well-time egg hatching, but to get lots of those you need coins, which you can only get for free from defending gyms, and if there's no open slots in gyms nearby you would need to level up your team's or defeat an opposing team's, for which you need more powerful Pokemon...
So either you shell out the cash or you're spinning your wheels.

Or maybe being in one of the aforementioned areas farther away from the clusters of stops/gyms just skews my perspective of the game.

I will say though, it's impressive that it's got me out walking to hatch eggs more than I've tried to get myself active in the last few months. Shame it's also the hottest, most humid peak of the summer season to be outside...

Sure. Being social and having fun (I'll use that term loosely) doesn't protect things from being funny.

I'm in these conversations anyway since I introduced them to the game, I just bailed.

You guys should've joined the same team then went out to stomp some gyms.

The data is from Ingress how has it not been attempted?

And I'm rolling my eyes at the no fun allowed as I'm not allowed to laugh at my friends and their silly comments or complaints.

Are you saying that these people aren't having "real" fun? Get off your high ponyta.

Does anybody know if some Pokémon having higher damaging attacks than others is intentional?

Like, one Golbat with a 6 damage poison attack versus one with a 12 damage flying attack. Is that balanced in that poison needs to deal less damage than the flying attack? Or is just some other RNG thing to look out for, because up until this point I've only been watching for CP, transferring those with less CP and hanging onto the one with the highest CP to be eventually evolved.

It hasn't been attempted because Ingress has never had a fraction of the playerbase that Go had its first day. And if it's your friends that you're getting the humor from, fine. I laugh at my friends too. I misread it as more of a "wow all of these thousands of people are so dumb for falling for such a cheap imitation of a true pokemon game, let me laugh at how easily manipulated they are" kind of thing. And that would be my bad.

Laughing at your friends silly comments is perfectly fine. I took your earlier post differently. Like the game was beneath you and you were laughing at your friends for enjoying such a game. Total misunderstanding.

For one stage Pokémon, should I be powering them up with stardust like crazy?

Is there a list of possible moves for each Pokémon in this game? No idea if karate chop and fire punch on Magmar is adequate to invest in.

Not beneath me, I want to like it since I love Pokemon. It just didn't get it hooks in me, and ended just feeding my interest in a more trradional entry.

All the gyms have huge CPs already. I'm never going to even beat one Pokemon without spending time I don't have. :/

My evolved pidgeotto has a dragon attack (twister) Is that good? Interesting? Rare?
