Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Finally managed to start the app and catch a cuteass bulbasaur in my house. Only thing is it kinda froze after, not sure what to do I don't wanna lose my bulbasaur...

yo,same

finally got in there were four pokemon around me, a rattata, two pidgeys, and a bulbasaur. i mashed on that bulbasaur and managed to get into battle and throw the ball but it froze...on edge...will be my 3rd starter !

Has anyone on iOS had to re-log in if you have 2 step authentification on for your google account? I captured a bulbasaur, closed the app and when I opened it again it asked me for my credentials again.

Asks me every time. Others responded to my question about this saying it was probably due to the servers. Time will tell.

I'm not going to play until that's fixed. My credentials are too long to do that every time.

is this xenoblade chronicles x
(i don't live by water either, I think there may be a tiny creek in the back of some houses over here....I've seen like Seel and Shellder pop up but they're too far away)

I asked because when I went to click that, it said it was still not available in my country. It did that until I uninstalled the APK version and re-downloaded, haha.

Ah yeah, the apk for some reason interferes with the app store i guess. Same thing happened to me actually!

I've never played Ingress and don't really know what it is, but if they take landmarks from that for Pokestops in this... does that mean I can start playing Ingress, and create a Pokestop near my desk at work?

Worked 100% fine for 15 minutes straight, even dared to use my incense, catching plenty of Pokemon, then I get right up next to a gym and welp right on cue

Leveling up pokemon is weird, and I don't understand when I should be doing it. Seems like the early pokemon you catch are sort of useless in the long run. You tend to come across stronger pokemon as your trainer level goes it, so it'd feel like I'm wasting resources by powering up a pokemon when I know I'll find pokemon with stronger base combat power as I level up...

I just fired off my first Lure on a PokeStop, and I've encountered exactly nothing while roaming around the spot for the last 20 minutes... Ugh...

Of course the servers come back up, only to crash yet again after I get in my car to drive off and search. What a freaking waste. The salt is real.

This game seems half-baked.

I thought so too, but I actually find the gameplay really fun and rewarding so far. It's fun to have an extra motivation to go for a walk and something to do when I'm walking the dogs.

But the infrastructure is the worst right now. I understand there are always hiccups, but this is pretty extreme! But, working in IT I see how hard software launches can go, so I'm trying to be patient...

Servers are up, drive to the closest gym, bout a 5 minute drive. Get there and servers are down. This is beginning to get frustrating.

Haha a PokeStop at the sign of the place I work despite our rural location. That's pretty cool. Now if I could just access it that would be great.

Is it worth it to already install this app when I currently don't have the time to use it intensively?

In other words:
- I would not currently, due to time constraints, visit locations specifically for this app.
- I would be willing to let the app run in my trouser when I'm out.
- I would be willing to spend short sessions on the app both at home and outdoors. (Just not like visiting locations while checking with the app where I have to go.)

So are there gameplay elements that allow for progress to be made in this situation?
Or is it better to hold out until I have time to also go out on 'hunts'?

---
Also, shame on the 5 km/h limit... I run at 10-11 km/h so would have loved to use this concurrently.

The servers are really taking a beating, i think niantic underestimated just how popular pokemon + augmented reality would be.
It's possible they underestimated it, but it's also possible that it wasn't possible to adequately prepare for.

Haha, not exactly.

1. You can't just make anything into a Landmark. It has to be... something, lol. "Duane's Desk at Work" is not notable enough to submit.
2. Submitted landmarks take some time to make it into the game, they aren't automatically approved.
3. We don't know if new Ingress landmarks are being ported over to PoGo instantly, on some kind of a reset, or even at all.

I do like your line of thinking though

Basically the answer to this will be depending on your area. If there are pokestops you can hit in the locations you'd be anyway, and have a decent distribution of pokemon in random encounters there, you can make some progress. If not, you'll be very limited as to what you can do without specifically seeking some stuff out.

Wait, you can't hatch eggs if you run too fast? What the hell haha

This was me last night. Sign up, sign in, do stuff around the house and backyard, seems fine. Drive to a nearby hospital where there's a couple things around and spend 20 minutes in the parking lot unable to sign back in. Gave up and went home.

There's also been evidence in DLs and revenue that this is literally the biggest app release of all time.

So complaining about the servers seems a bit misguided rn tbph

Haha, bummer. Well, it was worth a shot.

I refuse to use a google login for this because I know there will be some kind of reward tied in to the Pokemon Trainer club crap, but I'm getting antsy since I haven't been able to log in all day with that account.

My wife and I went for a 2 hour walk and the last 45 minutes were excruciatingly bad.

I'm in the "there was no proper way for them to prepare for this" camp. Mostly because I refuse to believe that there is a human being who would go "a skinny mobile version of Pokemon that could potentially be turned into an MMO? That can't be that popular.". That just seems uhhh delusional.

You'll certainly be able to play, catch pokemon, whatever. You'll just have an easier time playing if you hit up the stops/gyms every once in a while. Stops give you pokeballs and other useful items that you might run out of otherwise. You can still progress pretty easily without them, you just might have to budget your pokeball usage a bit more.

But I would wait to download, give it another few days. The servers are completely borked right now. The devs apparently didn't expect Pokemon to be this popular. I know that it's hard to predict the amount of usage a new server will get and allocate for that, but come on.
