Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Yeah, the AR bits were the only pull, but I got over that already.

It's just busy work surrounding a poor core game. Catching without battling and then a poor version of gym battles.
I'd argue that you are misinterpreting what the "core game" is intended to be. But I think you have simply identified that it isn't something you enjoy, which makes perfect sense, as it's definitely not going to be something everyone does.

I don't think it's poor. A lot of the criticism from the core gaming community seems to be that Go is bad because it isn't totally faithful to the main series. Why must it be? It's a different game. It uses the property but the emphasis is on an entirely different place. It's about getting out and exploring, interacting with real people, not about creating friction and resistance to the user by utilizing classic RPG mechanics.

Got in, nothing loaded, game crashed.

Yeah, just got in, a Taurus appeared direi next to me, got it into the pokeball and now it's frozen with the music playing

Hope I don't lose him

Edit: same problem as above, definitely not alone-- I've seen others leave similar comments, even if it's not always freezing on the "catch"

Still down huh? Can't log in with my Trainer Club ID.

I still can't believe what an amateurish alpha this feels like. The trainer art is terrible and clashes with everything, theres barely anything to do, and of course the servers are shit.

who is hosting the server/paying for them? Niantic? Pokemon Company? Nintendo?

New tweet from the Go twitter:

Basically, "we're working on it"

the bigger takeaway here is "even though the servers are shot to shit we will continue to increase the server load so more people can purchase IAP's and not use them"

Anyone UK-based here playing?

I have an iOS and an Android phone. How are you playing it? I would prefer iOS (as it's my private phone).

I only tried like 10minutes of this game since its so buggy.

But is the whole premise basically, go here, find pokemon and throw a ball at it?

It's got two hooks: the collection game, and territory control. You can find and claim gyms, challenge claimed gyms, take them over, and reap the benefits of holding a gym for 24 hours (coins, stardust).

Why do I have to turn on battery saver everytime I restart the game? Stupid and fat. I don't even know how much it helps.

Server issues. That's pretty much the go-to problem atm. While servers were up, I was able to hard close the app, use other stuff, come back, and I would still be logged in when I launched the app with all settings saved. It's supposed to save that, but it just can't with the toaster servers.

Is it just me, or do you only see the leaves rustling when battery saver is off?

I did a walk around the neighborhood with the wife last night and caught quite a few and never saw the leaves. Whenever I start the app with battery saver off, I can see the leaves from inside the house ranging from a few houses over to the next neighborhood.

I see them when I select a pokemon I am after on the ones nearby

Holy shit! I live in a small town in Norway, and they have information on all the local Pokestops. How the hell!? And it's not even out here!

So is there any way to submit ideas for locations right now or is it still exclusive to Ingress? Would love to get some more locations on my University as Pokestops and gyms before school starts. Right now they're all in just one location with most of campus empty.

Ugh there is a gym across the street from my house that I'm trying to take back. Beat it once and then the server dropped.

This will be fantastic when I can play it for more than five minutes. Until then I'll be putting off the hikes and jogs and what not.

Leaves don't do or mean anything in my experience.

Nice a poke center is right a cross from my house at a Church, def going over there after the sun goes down, its 100 degrees here lol

Also how often can you go to poke centers to get stuff?

Also pro tip: If it says servers are down, sometimes just restart your phone and the game will load up

Yea the servers are up for me. Nothing but Pidgeys tho.

These stupid server crashed are already making me want to delete the app. (And I just got it today) Caught an eevee and then server crash...no more eevee

EDIT: Managed to get back on and catch one. Good news is that eevee is apparently fairly common outside my apartment complex. AKA I'm going to have all the eeveelutions
