Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

So, decided to charge up my phone and come back to face the Level 9 Gym.

They'll probably take it back easily, since I don't have 8 Pokemon before my RapiGOD to help me. But felt nice to single handily tear it down. :DDDD

Mhhh i remember seeing someone on Reddit post a screengrab of a Moltres "icon" in their proximity tho

Could be fake i guess

My roommate mistook the Ghastly icon for Moltres while we were taking our bikes for a spin.

Don't motorcycle and Pokemon Go, kids.

Man, I wish my phone's camera didn't suck. Oh well. Here's my last catch around my neck of the woods until Niantic gets around to patching some wild Pokemon into my area.

Hopefully they deal with these deadzones soon. It completely sucks to not be able to catch Pokemon on my morning walk normally and I know other people who live in rural areas are having the same problem. It'd be nice if we could submit some notable nearby locations and stuff to make Pokemon Stops too, but I'm guessing that's a good ways off.

My friend and I just played this for 6 hours straight. It's light ouside now...

We started at a dark park near my house and I bruised the SHIT out of and gashed my shin on a bench. Like I said then, I'd rather get eaten by Gyrados on a bridge than go through that again. But just went home, cleaned it up and went to town.

it's still throbbing

Realizing that you can see when gym battles are taking place live by the effects just made for one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game.

I was watching in real time as, for about an hour and a half, three gyms within range of me were going nuts in some kind of turf war, which I may have only seen the edge of. It started possibly with some Instinct player moving west and trying to at least damage as many enemy gyms as possible, then, like, counter attacks were happening, then reinforcements in the form of training the prestige back up to shore up losses or dig into a newly acquired gym, then three gyms were lighting up at once, then all of a sudden two Valor players just sweep in and work together to reclaim a gym stolen by Instinct, and by the end of the night what was this morning a solid block of high level blue with a tiny bit of yellow is now two feeble blue gyms that could easily be taken out and a single red separating them.

This was all happening like within a few blocks or less frome me. One was just around the corner.

God that was cool.

It's like I'm hearing a lite version of Eve online stories LOL...this is awesome.

Unfuckingprecedented.

I just installed the app then went on a 1km walk around my neighborhood. I never fucking take walks, ANYWHERE.

Nintendo what is this

In the past rtwo days I've walked over 10km and I'm hoping to do a full 10 today in order to hatch an egg.

If this game existed when I was a child then I don;t think I'd have ever been obese.

Does the distance at which you must walk to hatch an egg correlate to the quality of the Pokemon inside?

Yep. 10km eggs are the best ones.

so..what is this game exactly about other than going around cathcing pokemon?can you at least battle in some capacity?
if yes,it's the combat the same than the normal series or it is a dumbed down version?

So I'm getting a weird glitch. If I use the battery saver, half the time I get out of it, my guy is standing, music playing, Pokemon appearing...but I can't click or anything. I have to exit the app and restart it.

Anyone else?

You can take over gyms and then other people battle the Pokemon you have there. Battles are like a more simple Punch-Out.

I've had the same problem and also use battery saver but never connected the two...figured it was due to server issues...hmmm...

Reading testemonies about parents on Reddit and that's nice that a lot are players and others are understanding.

I'm 29 and I played as a kid. Now as a father me and my two kids are going on "adventures" and it's fun for us it's something new. I usually pick places with a play ground so then after our adventure it's play time. I even got my wife in on it and we are now having family advenrures.

Being 26 years old, soon to be 27, this game is my childhood dreams all come to life. My friends are playing, and some of them are upwards of the age in their 40s. Tonight even, we had a late 4th cookout, and there were about 15 people here, one person was like, "Hey there's an Ivysaur near" and everyone pulls out their thing and start tracking it. Two minutes later we hear a shout and they have found it, everyone runs near and finds the Ivysaur, no later than that, 3 of us had caught it. It's seriously all we could have imagined and more, let your inner childhood return and bask in it's awe.

I so agree with you op.

I am off out in half an hour for a drive around with my 21 yo son. When he was little he always wished to be a pokemon. He cried to be a real trainer. Taught himself to read at 3 from the pokemon handbook because we were too slow. Well the cards brought back the love a few years ago. I bought my own decks and we sat on the lounge floor connecting as a parent and adult in transition. Now this.

I love hearing what he's caught. Actually I think I have gone a bit further than that. Downloaded and up and hunting.

What's really cool is that 21 years later I am still hanging out with my son as two adults playing pokemon

28 here. My mom, girlfriend and I went for a walk while I worked on catching Pokémon and going to pokestops a couple of days ago. On the way back they got really interested and I told them where to go to download it and helped set them up. Now I've got both of them, who were never interested in Pokémon before this, texting me about what they caught and what level they are. It's been a blast!

Theres a pidgeotto on the corner and I cant catch it, because the phone wont connect.

Overwhelming sadness

This would have been the first cool Pokemon I would hvae caught

When you hit nearby on map view and select one of the Pokemon near you and put the blue circle around it, what does that do exactly? I know the op says that it's not exactly known yet, but wasn't sure if anyone figured it out yet.

The appeal is that you have to interact with real life either for hunting or hatching your egg, you will have at some point move your body and go out "treasure hunting" that will bring you to locations that in general you will never visit (ex: church, cemetery, etc).

Then if you're lucky, you will meet other Pokemon players during your journey.

The combat has been dumbed down.
At the moment people are pretty motivated to pvp (by getting a gym or conquerring it)
You can witness in real time pvp that happen around you, example:

Is this meant to work in the UK?, I went all around Manchester today and not one Pokemon.

It's not officialy released in UK but some people who downloaded the APK like you were able to catch some pokemons but some not because the UK maps are not loaded in the servers.

It's 4 in the morning and I just spent 45 minutes walking around my neighborhood chasing a Charmander that never appeared.

I'm almost 30.

Seems like the Galaxy A5 doesnt have a gyroscope ffs :/

Hope they add a new feature so you dont have to rely on gyroscope for AR mode. I really wanna play AR...

How do you use a lure? I'm standing next to a pokestop and when I press the lure, it just gives me a description of what the item does?

Do I need to have the app running on my for egg distance to count or for the rumble when near a mon? Or can I have my phone locked/app in the background?
