Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

How long do you have to own a gym before you get any benefits? Aren't I supposed to get coins or something?

I just took over the two local ones, but the competition is tough.

Well I'm in the middle of a neighborhood, and I don't see see a gym. Are they just randomly placed?
Not random, no, they are actual things in the physical world, but they aren't common in resisdential areas.

Have any shopping plazas or malls, parks, business offices, art, restaurants, etc nearby? The idea is to go explore your environment and see what there is.

edit: Yeah, lots of churches/other functional buildings with decorated exteriors seem to be gyms.

So what's the point of sending out one of my Pokemon to help in another guy's gym?

There is literally nothing around my apartment... A gym down the road and quite a few pokestops, but everything is out of reach from my home.

So what's the point of sending out one of my Pokemon to help in another guy's gym?
Multiple points!

1. Training at gym in the first place (whether or not it has a slot for one of your Pokemon yet) gives you XP and raises the Prestige of the gym
2. If the Gym goes up in Prestige level that unlocks another slot for you to put in a Pokemon
3. A challenger must defeat all Pokemon inhabiting an enemy gym, so leaving your Poke there is helping to fortify it
4. Having a Pokemon defending a Gym grants you a daily bonus of the cash shop coins (Shield icon on the shop page). You don't have to be the gym leader, the bonus is the same.

I mean, I'd say to some extent, that's the whole point?

Oh boy. Gym battles seem super broken to me. I had to kill the app both times after finishing match (losing basically in my case due to bad deck) as it hangs at the final HP level struggling to talk to server. Everything else works just fine for me but Gym seems broken at the moment.

I can't get enough of this memes hahahah

It's a known bug sadly. :(

How to send out a pokemon to help a gym??

Waiting for some company to leave so I can go to my local strip mall and hit up 6 pokestops and three gyms. This game actually has gotten me out every single day. Time to take my level 6 trainer to the next level though.

I bust my ass catching a million Pidgeys to evolve it into Pidgeot only to see that the dumbass replaced Aerial Ace with fucking Air Cutter. Oh and my friend just found a Pidgeot in the wild. Wtf.

holy shit.. a guy has a 450 pidgeoto as the second friggin pokemon at a gym up the street... I mean... did he just raise the shit out of a pdgeot to get that?

and now that PTC is working, I already spent $15 on Incense yesterday on my Google account.... fml. and my google account is level 6. hopefully the let you merge the accounts in the future.

Yeah this is honestly one of the more disappointing aspects so far. The whole mode is buggy and often doesn't work right, not to mention having to hope the servers stay up while you fight.

After it gets the kinks worked out, I think it'll be fun but right now it's difficult to really go after any gyms.

It increases the "prestige" of the gym which in turn can help defend against enemies trying to take it over. I'm not sure (someone can maybe verify here) but if you also have a mon at the gym, you should be able to get your PokeCoins even though you don't "own" the gym.

I just took over the two local ones, but the competition is tough.

On the "Shop" page, in the top right you'll see a shield. You can get coins once every 24 hours, as long as you're holding a gym. You get 10 per gym and I believe it maxes at 10.

Saw a Seaking nearby, so I went for a quick search. It got away, but a Seel spawned in, so I got a new dex entry anyways! I also got a Jigglypuff from a 2K egg. And to top it all off, I got enough Eevee candy for an evolution. I got Vaporeon from it, just need Flareon now!

Since I was in the area, I stopped at a golf range gym, where a 260CP Drowzee from Team Mystic stood. An easy win, foiled by the dreaded 1HP glitch. I'll try again in the evening.

How to send out a pokemon to help a gym??
If it has an open slot, there will be a button when you look at the gym, I think in the opposite corner of the one that you press to fight. If it doesn't, you will have to fight there (training or sparring) until you raise the Prestige of the Gym to the next level and unlock a slot. I think there's a 5 minute cooldown.

Be warned though that your own Pokemon will take damage from this training and need to be healed. It's a great idea to attack them with pokemon close in CP to the ones at the gym, that you aren't really planning to keep and can just transfer to Professor Willow afterward when they're all beat up.

Shop error-ed out and said try again and I did. It claimed something went wrong again. I close the app and open again and they gave me twice as many items as I wanted and took the coins twice....

Glad I only used Play credit for the store. Ridiculous

Battling there increases its prestige, which can allow you to contribute a pokemon to it when you raise the level. Just having a pokemon there doesn't itself increase the Prestige.

Yep, anyone who has a pokemon at that gym gets the bonus.

The weird battle system in this game is the worst part. What even is this tap shit?
It's pretty simple but dynamic battle system underneath there with dodge, fast, and special. May be we will see some amazing play along the road. Right now people are just tapping.

Walked around the neighborhood for about 45 min. First 15 I didn't encounter anything. Decided to use the incense and ended up catching about 12 Pokemon in about 30 min. Hit level 4 before coming back inside. Real pain that you have to leave the app open to be notified that a Pokemon is close. A simple push notification would be great. App feels rushed.
Driving to graveyard, pokecenter and hospital after my sons nap.

I need a little speaker with a button I can press with a canned audio file, to play this when I encounter someone I suspect is playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyTySrlbInU

While push notifications would be lovely, seems like the app is engineered to make the Go Plus device as compelling as possible, so I don't really expect them to happen.

Thank you. I have another question though..

Do i need to defeat all the other trainers at a friendly gym to ''train'' and raise the prestige level or just one? I'm pretty sure i can defeat the first pokemon and my nearby friendly gym but the other 2 are out of my reach cause they are too strong.

Edit: this question is kinda relevant for enemy gyms aswell... , do i get exp for simply defeating a single opponent or do i need to defeat all of them for any kind of reward?

Since this game is basically one giant Safari Zone it would be cool if they added areas that are an inverse of the Safari Zone where you battle Pokemon against wild ones to train and level up.

And yes your screen need to be on but you don't need to activate the AR.

The first update this game needs is the ability to remain open and running when the screen is locked.

Just vibrate and make a noise when Pokemon or Pokestops are nearby.

Did the trick and downloaded in here in the UK. The church right behind my house is a Pokespot and there are two gyms on the map while I'm at home!

So I own two gyms now. One of them is level 2 with a 2000/4000. What does that mean? Can I put more Polemon i to it?

I think it's 1 pokemon per teamate only.

They did made an accessory for that purpose so I doubt the app will get updated about this.

Yup. Do your best! Even if you can't defeat them, I think you will get some XP.

Man, I'm realizing how terrible AT&T is compared to Verizon and T-Mobile. My friends can play the fame just fine but I can't get past the loading screen.

So yesterday im sitting in a parking lot an across the street was a pokestop. I see three cars in a row swerve and pull over causing a huge dust storm. I definitely feel like they all stopped for the pokestop lmao.

Went for a walk to get a coffee this morning. A quick 15 min walk turned into an hour and a half of me walking around catching pokemon and goin to pokestops lol. If anything, this game is getting me outside.

They need to bring out an update so that you can see other people on your map and be able to challenge them and most importantly introduce the normal combat system.

Holy shit you guys my coworker just told me theres a PokeStop at a Strip Club in Memphis, TN.

maLLSSs.png
One of my local Gyms is this angel statuette on top of a Cheesecake Factory.

Its actual Gym name is "The Cheesecake Angel."

Which sounds like it should be a strip club. But isn't.

Sounds good. Kinda low but I guess that's what makes people pay real money.

At least I get to collect 10 as soon as I take it instead of first waiting 24 hours. Cause that would NEVER happen.

I honestly don't think they expected this level of success.

Now the trick is going to be sustaining a good, active user base. Pushing updates that help with performance + adding new content relatively quickly is key. Maybe adding things like 'swarms' of Pokemon, etc.. Of course, adding trades is great also. Plus daily login freebies would probably be good.

Heh, how long til they update it with Shiny Pokemon, or Gen 2+.
