no one can see that but you sadly

By the way, for the people saying they're walking for hours and nothing finding anything, always double-check to make sure your game is active.

I noticed a few times today while out and about that the game was still 'running' but more or less frozen with nothing new loading. You can check this by actually clicking the map and making sure the 'blue circle' happens.

If it doesn't, you'll need to restart the app, because no Pokemon are going to appear.

So I just got back from my usual neighborhood walk with this. As neat as it is, I don't think it's for me. One, it killed the whole relaxing feel of the walk for me. Two, the neighbors were looking at me like I was a nuts or like I was taking pictures of thier property. Now I have to hope I don't show up on the neighborhood watch list or something. lol

Deactivate AR. It's nice if you want to take a picture but other than that it's just a hassle.

I spent days attempting to register an account to use for the game...only to find out the other night I had one the entire time (probably from X&Y).

Today being the first day, it went smooth mostly. Had to close out and go back in a couple of times from either the screen not responding to touch prompts or the pokeball capturing and then eternally sitting there while moving like the Pokemon instead of going into the capturing phase.

Spent a bit over an hour in the park with my infant nephew to give the game a go. Pidgeys, Venonats, Weedles, and Rattata were easy finds, with quite a few convenient modules to loop to. Someone had placed a lure at one, and I nabbed a Ghastly there. The Metapod I encountered refused to be caught, so that was the one to get away for the day.

It was amazing to see so many others out doing the same stuff, and even more-so how people were engaging each other despite the game itself not having much of a social aspect.

It's a simple and fun thing, though I do wonder how well the Pokemon are distributed throughout areas and if there is any actual rhyme or reason on how they are. My friends in Chicago seem to be nabbing much more than those in the small city I'm in. Could just be perception or could be an actual issue with favoring major cities and such over other areas.

For now though, I'm enjoying it and hope it sticks.

Oh come on, some kid and his mom just drove up to the gym I was a part of and clobbered my poor Golbat.

Looks like the gym leader's Venomoth held them back though. We still own the gym and they left!

Huzzah! I'll have to go back tomorrow and replace my Golbat.

Went to get some groceries and coffee and caught a few new Pokemon. Found an Ekans which was awesome.

Saw so many adults playing it. Thinking about going to Central Park and Nintendo NY tomorrow and see how much I can catch on my way there and back.

I turned off the AR because of this, solves a lot of those problems lol.
Same.

Pros for turning AR off:
1. It makes you less like a crazy person, you can just ease in against a wall and look at your phone normally. Several times I was coming up close to women or elderly(with AR on) and the alarm would go off and I was thinking "not now!".
2. It makes it much easier to catching small agile targets like birds and Zubat etc.
3. The in-game backgrounds are Ok.

Cons:
1. AR presents some great photo opportunities.
2. More immersive I guess.

Yep. I expected bug Pokemon in my local forest, but instead there was nothing. The "nearby" radar thingy was just blank.

How do the spawns work anyway? I mean does it really attempt to populate via GPS mountain or plains region/body of water/etc.?

EDIT: My AR is staying on. Just have the volume up and they'll know whats up. Either way, just have fun with it...you're exploring the real world for virtual Pokemon after all.

Go the Pokeball Menu, select Pokemon, and look in the top right of the screen - there's a tag that says Eggs. Select it, and it shows the Eggs you have. Click on one, and it should show the available Incubators you have - everyone starts with one automatically. Any Egg in an Incubator will progress towards hatching for each step you take - the norm is about 5k in distance travelled.

Ah, thanks. Thought they'd be in the item menu.

Man, this game really needs a better tutorial.

My daughter really wants to play, but we can't even register. Tied ~10 times today and keep getting the page that states that they're limiting the registration and to try back in an hour.

Yo the game keeps on freezing everytime I get a Pokemon in a poke ball, it's my first time using incense and it keeps on freezing anyone know how to solve?

i am running the game on the iOS 10 beta. I seem to have far less crashes and freezes than my friend on iOS 9 whos been running around with me all day.

Problems i am aware of for the game in ios 10: it can't use the its unable to do AR properly, and battery saver mode doesn't work.

I had the same issues, so I'm restoring my phone to iOS 9.3.2 right now. AR mode and battery saver mode are super, super worth it tbh. Shame it doesn't work with iOS 10 right now, but it isn't exactly fair to expect it to at this stage.

How is everyone such high level? I could barely make it to lvl 5. Every time I go for a walk the servers are down and I don't have the patience to constantly refresh. :(

That being said, I went to the park today and ran into 3 groups of people playing. Pretty cool!

i do somewhat miss the AR, however, my battery was lasting much longer in iOS10 then my friends was in 9 with battery saver on.

I have a park my my house that has 9 pokestop and 2 gyms. Takes 5 -7 minutes to hit every pokestop so going back and forth is loads of exp. Last couple of nights we put 3 lures down covering the entire park and use a shiny egg.

Went from 5-10 in a few hours that way.

Question for a first time gym battler: I go to my team's gym to train and lose each battle since they have much higher cp Pokemon, but I don't receive any xp and the gym gains no prestige. Is this normal? For reference, I'll bring in a 76cp Pokemon to screw around and fight their 310cp Pokemon to give the gym prestige.

Catch a whole ton of whatever is common in your area (pidgey, rattata probably). Use an incense and a lucky egg and evolve all those common pokemon you caught. turn in the majority of them, weaker ones for more candy to keep evolving the basic pokemons. Walk around and catch everything with remaining time, evolving when possible until the egg and incense run out. Got me leveled up really fast. Level 12 now.

I'm lvl 7 now. Just don't take this too seriously. Take a walk, have fun, talk to people. Leveling up shouldn't be your main objective. 😄

I think it's been mentioned before, I haven't really read the thread but if you're in a suburban or rural area, you're kind of fucked. So you'll see people in cities at level 10000 and people in more secluded areas at level 3, in my experience at least.

Also, I wasn't given an egg when I started..

AR is novel but game plays much better without it imo

Backgrounds look like HD XY art

also, I thought people were reporting that rural areas had even more pokemon available than normal to compensate?

Meh, AR mode sucks

What phone do you have? I usually don't like gimmicky nonsense like AR mode, but if you give it the environment it wants the effect is pretty neat. Way more interesting than the (admittedly beautiful) painted backgrounds. That said, on my friend's $50 Android handset it was pretty awful.

I'll continue walking but its annoying as hell to have the servers just die on you randomly. Worst part is that my settings get fucked everytime they have a serious problem

I live half way between a city and the sea which has a large grassland area.

Took a walk away from civilization, found nothing.

No. There's a set amount of Pokemon in a given radius around each Pokestation, from what I can work out, and that amount doesn't vary between urban and rural areas. So if you're in an area that has 5 closely overlapping Pokestations, it will have 5 times the Pokemon as in an area that has a single Pokestation. Get too far away from a Pokestation (more than 500m or so) and you won't see anything at all.

So just downloaded this today and played after work. I travel to different locations for work daily and the plaza I was at today was busy with people playing this. Ended up at a fountain in the middle of the plaza and there were 30 or so people a standing around catching pokemon. Pretty incredible sight.
