Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I went downtown around 10 and I'm just getting home at 3 AM.

There's a handful of Stops clustered together around the City Commons, and people kept setting Lures there, so I just walked loops around downtown and through alleys and passages for hours passing stops and hatching eggs.

There were dozens of people wandering around with their eyes on their phones, and this is NOT a big city. High School and college kids right up to middle aged men and women were walking the sidewalks looking for Pokemon.

A police car was slowly creeping around a few block and I'm pretty sure they were just ping-ponging between the Lure'd Stops, and there were two bicycle policemen interested in what was going on. I watched two busboys from a restaurant bringing trash out to the dumpster while glued to their phones. There was even a homeless guy hiding under a stoop thing that scared the crap out of me but he seemed to have an iPod Touch and was leeching wi-fi, I think.

A Gym nearby all this had people wandering around it all night, and when it changed colors you could hear groups of people laughing or groaning or throwing taunts at other passing groups.

This is *crazy.*
Can you imagine this with the real battle system, an improved/continuous curation of PokeStops and possible integration with the "real" games?

We could actually end up in a Megaman Battle Network/Yu-Gi-Oh style world where *everybody* plays the same game.

They are definitely having issues with spawns

I walked 4 blocks and caught/saw 1 Zubat

Im going to have to go to the beach to get the good shit according to my buddies

One would hope.. good lord I want that so bad ever since I played Battle Network 2. Whats crazy is that we have the technology for this!!!

Downloaded yesterday, but didn't really mess around with it till today. I'm level 6, I have 10+ km logged, and my best poke is a level 412 Scyther. :) :)

The beach is where I'm going next. There are large lakes around here but no water pokemon near them. It blows. I'll hit up the beach during comicon. Hopefully they have a legendary at the Nintendo event.

Same. And didn't hear of anyone being actually banned in my circles either. I like to think reports are highly exaggerated so far.

I'm assuming that people jumped the gun too quick, and mistook the server issues for being banned ("I can't log in, I must be banned! ")

OH! Looks like my phone doesn't have a gyroscope. Other apps are able to find orientation based off its accelerometers and compass.

What phone do you have?

I'm running the iOS 10 beta and the gyro doesn't work in the game because of it.

It's a cheapo Samsung Galaxy Light. I downloaded a couple sensor testers. Orientation is always done by accelerometer and compass, and gyroscope is always unavailable.

went for a long walk and the game was running fine while I caught zubat after zubat but when I found a squirtle for the first time I caught it and the game crashed without saving....

I keep on getting trashy Rattata's, weedles, and pidgeys. However, I was on the bus and nabbed a Drowzee, venonat, horsea (no where near water), and others.

Unfortunately I live in a village with the nearest gyms being a mile away.

I see a couple of posts from a few pages ago discussing the bottom right tracker and its pulses/blinking so this may help if it hasn't been brought up yet.

If you're tracking a specific pokemon and are headed in the right direction, it will pulse a light blueish/green colour, and once you start to veer away it will pulse grey

Read about it on the subreddit but haven't put it to the test myself yet (just hit level 5), so maybe one of you guys could confirm it as you're out hunting.

i just had probably the coolest gaming experiences i can remember in a long long time, and ive been gaming my whole life and im over 30

long story short, went out at 12am to take a quick walk and catch a few pokemon...

3:30am now and i just got home. ran into several groups of people and made a ton of friends

the real life interactions this game causes is amazing, there is truly no other game like this

and its a fucking mobile game

I have never seen a game become so popular so quickly , mums / dads / kids all walking together and having fun.

Even my own family with a wife who can't stand games is addicted , it's brought us all together and out walking more then any games I have ever seen , and that's for just a basic monster catching game really . None of us like / know Pokemon but we still have fun going out and exploring .

I am just amazed how fast it has spread , just today in a trip to a local shop I have 20+ people randomly walking around catching .

Well done Nintendo . No idea if the addiction will last but you have definitely brought some joy to a lot of families .

Went for a 5km run and to collect some pokestops for poke balls.
Met 2 guys also playing. This is nuts. Small town here. Don't know what will happen if it will release official here in .de

Just came home and then I see this... Oh c'mon

perfect.

whoa, be careful about the screenshots you post. I don't live anywhere near you and it took me less than two minutes to ascertain where you are. I know exactly where you live now.

Shit's crazy. Here in the Netherlands the app isn't even out yet and still I have gyms all around me and I already spotted multiple people walking around the pokestops next to my house with their eyes fixed on their phones. It's so much fun to see them walking in circles looking for pokemans.

This shit's going to be a a cultural phenomenon. It's brilliant.

I've been amazed this week, been holidaying in the Lake District (UK countryside areas, lots of lakes, hills and small towns). Even here the gyms are taken, there are many poke stops to be had thanks to tourist spots. Can't believe even here the gyms got taken so quickly.

Soon getting a train back across the country, can't wait to hatch my eggs in no time.

There's a Porygon near my place somewhere. I already ran around the block 3 times but I can't find it, always at 3 prints. This game.

The fact that you need to let the app open and on screen all the time is ridiculous.
Basically it's charge up your phone 100%, go for a two hours hunt, go back home.

gyms getting taken quickly aren't surprising. gyms getting taken by 4 trainers with a minimum of 400CP each... that is surprising.

fortunately all you need to do is be able to take out at least the first pokemon.. and be willing to spend some time/items/money.

don't know if it's been shared (I figured it out myself 😜) But as long as you can beat the first pokemon at the gym you will lower prestige (or raise it if it's your team). I don't know if it still lowers even if you don't beat the first trainer.. but probably not by a lot.. it looks like it's 500 prestige per pokemon you beat. I believe levels go

1-2000
2001-4000
4001-8000
8001-12000

So if a gym is at 7999 prestige (level 3), you would have to beat 8 pokemon there (either 3 full clears, or the first two 4 times, or the first one eight times, etc).. to get the gym down to level 2. Once that happens, the lowest trainer at the gym will be kicked out. The next lowest will be the new first trainer, etc.

To take the gym, you just keep repeating the above. So the good news is you never have to be able to take all 2, 3, 4, etc trainers with a team of 6. The bad news is you WILL eventually have to take on that 700CP Gyarados.

Believe it or not, that's where friends (real life) on the same team seem to work best. a) you can only leave one pokemon at a gym, b) you can essentially "share" items while beating a gym. So if you both have plenty of revives and potions, you can share the brunt of taking the gym. You can also coordinate which pokemon you are going to leave, thus what your buddy will need to fight for him to leave one also.

When you are leaving a gym you took over.. the rule of thumb seems to be to leave it at 500-1000 shy of the next level. this ensures that if an enemy takes it, they'll at least need to go through most of the prestige to lose the level, but if a friend stops by, as long as they can take the first pokemon twice (i.e. has the strength to do so) they'll be able to drop one of their (stronger) ones at the gym.

I'd strongly recommend when leveling a gym, don't just hit like 12001, leave a pokemon and walk away. All you are going to ensure is that with one battle an enemy is going to drop that first trainer.

The gym system seems really buggy. I can get the health down but not below 1%. Gave up on it for now, but I'm a bit bummed about it.

The round I walk with my dog has 5 Pokestops along the way.
It's been four days and my dog automatically stops and waits at every one of them lmao.

Was getting ready to go to bed and decided to check the app one last time. See the outline of a Magmar. Fuck. Roll out of bed in a wife beater and boxers, throw on my moccasins, and head outside.

It says it's on the opposite side of my backyard wall which is a main street and quite a trek (about 1 km to get out of my cul-de-sac ). I get 3/4 of the way there and it disappears. I continue the walk to where it should be.

Nothing. It's gone. Hang head and walk back home. Get in bed. Look at Go one more time. It's back. Fuck.

Yep, never had a gym battle yet where this doesn't happens. Not even going to try today.

Went down to the high street, it's got a pretty decent selection of pokéspots and 3 gyms. I managed to get to level 5 and joined team mystic as planned, but the red team has the entire town on lock and my mons are all scrubs. I now have more eggs then I can possibly hatch and I found a dratini in a church yard.

Is it worth training pokémon up or is it faster to just catch stronger things?

(Also my feet hurt. I wish I could cycle, but there's a large hill between my house and most of the town's pokéspots.)

Just a thought...

For those of us playing on the APK - are we going to miss out on any updates pushed in the next few days until official launch?
