Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Yeah its a wildly different game depending on where you live or if you stop walking and drive around. Should be called either Pokemon No, Pokemon Drive, or Pokemon Stay, if you happen to get lucky being in a place that has tons near by.

Even where I work, in a complex of like 5 buildings. nothing. But the complex across the street has two right next to each other. Like really? So those people easily take the near by gym, its almost impossible to do anything for everyone else in the area.
Yeah, the gym I contributed to last night is in a park surrounded by houses. There's two gyms and four PokéStops for them within easy walking distance. You could walk around the park once for all four and it'd take you maybe ten minutes and since PokéStops regenerate every 4-5 minutes, it's very susceptible to spamming.

Now that I found out you can pick up failed PokéBalls, I don't feel as desperate. I'm always running out. Hah

Don't try it. I ran out of PokéBalls testing it out (I only had two left).

Sitting on my balcony drinking coffee, replying to work e-mails, etc. I have seen two groups of kids, one group of teenagers, a father and daughter pair, and one of the maintenance people for the grounds, all clearly playing Pokemon Go. Nintendo has bottled lightning a second time. Amazing.

I am going downtown later to shop and meet someone for dinner. Several stops are there, I hope someone uses a lure because I only have caught a handful of unique pokemons.

I was actually pretty impressed by how much stuff is on the map here in a small city with a population of 60k in Portugal. Ingress must have been popular here. Went to grab a cold beer near the shoreline with a couple of friends and launched Pokemon Go for the first time and goddamn, so many Poke Centers and Gyms, I wasn't expecting it. Got to thank the Casino, all the statues around it and the churches, it was actually tiring to see so much stuff on the map, it would take quite a while to go through it all. Haven't checked other places in the city but I was excited to see that much stuff already (and the Gyms were all taken already).

I guess I'll be taking a lot more walks near the beach this summer.

Man, if that deleted tweet is just about being able to pick up failed pokeballs, whatever. I wish you could just take half of mine, my bag is full and I'll probably end up trashing like a hundred of them if this keeps up!

Went out this morning, and man this game is so nice when the servers and your cell connection cooperate. Didn't have to restart the app or even lose connection once! Just one pokestop at extreme range that I couldn't get because I didn't download its info fast enough before walking too far away.

Only problem is all my pokes are super low level for the area. Could barely even train up a local gym with a 280+ CP Raticate at its bottom tier. Managed to hit an enemy gym at least, but still lost all my pokes once I hit the gym leader.

You dont have to fight the leader. Just keep killing the lower Pokemon until you deplete the gym level and then you can take it over.

Yeah, it's a lie. I just tried it out by deliberately missing and it doesn't do anything.

Well, it did do one thing: I'm out of PokéBalls lol

I thought about it, but pretty sure I'd run out of revives and potions before I could grind through the gym's prestige. Six revives + six potions per run, and only 1000? prestige or less off each run.

That said, I think I'm going out to take this blue gym right by me with a lone Psyduck. FINGERS CROSSED

EDIT: or not, already loaded with two more 400+ pokemon, yikes. Where are the roving Instinct teams, man? I made the wrong team choice :(

Doesn't it automatically advance you to the next Pokemon after you kill the lower one? Or am I remembering wrong?

Also, has anyone figured out optimal Pokemon catching when staying in the same location (without just leaving the game on)? At least in my area, if I leave it for like an hour or two and then turn the game on, I almost always seem to have four Pokemon around me. Maybe there's no real pattern here and it's just down to chance, but just wondering.

It's lame how rural areas got fucked. No gyms, stops, and very few spawns even.

I live in Greensboro NC and have no issue being close to stops and even getting pokemon sitting on my couch. I drive out to rural areas sometimes for my job and cant get shit out in the country.

Makes sense tho with the system. Obviously there's gonna be less landmarks out in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully they can think of something to remedy this.

Yea, right now I live near a state park in a suburb and there's *nothing* within walking distance for me. Closest thing would have to be a shopping center 15 mins away ;\

Side note I fucking love Greensboro. Get some Crafted for me.

edit: I even live right on a lake - no water pokemon. Using my 2 incense got me like 8 pidgeys, 3 spearows, and a venonat

I think they will rectify this. They can add these whenever they want but for now they just went and used Ingress places. This game is massive so i'm sure they will start populating it with more points of interest or open up the submissions again.

I feel like this game punishes you if you don't live in certain areas. It feels like everything was designed around this idea that everyone lives in places like NYC or LA. In my area, Poke Spots are somewhat sparse, but bunched together in odd places, begging you to trespass to get to them. Pokemon rarely spawn, and where grassy areas are, they're always either just outside of my circle OR when they are in my circle, don't spawn anything.

Also, the damn thing doesn't work if I put my phone into Sleep Mode, so I have to have it out and view it constantly.

you need a walking district or stretches of walkable land. lots of small towns fit this criteria, probably more so than large cities. lots of college towns too. lots of celebrated history out there that isn't limited to big cities

Finding a Pokemon with the Nearby page is incredibly annoying. Spent an hour and a half looking for a Snorlax and having to contend with sh*tty Zubat's that kept popping up nearby throwing off our search. Gave up in the end and went home.

Holy crap...I just went to a burger king and pulled this out in the lot before going in to check for stuff, maybe put out some incense to draw in things while I hung out. I thought I heard my game make a noise but as it turns out when I walked in THE ENTIRE CREW WAS PLAYING POKEMON GO.

I live in the middle of fucking nowhere WV on top of a mountain and when I show up 5 folks have phones out and are getting a 6th to download it to "treasure hunt" for pokemon with them.

They told me where to find an Eevee I told them where a nearby pokestop was so they could restock.

This thing is huge if it penetrated this damned place. No one does anything here.

you can infer from those ingress submission criteria that they just don't want people impacting wildlife to play. they want people to play where you already walk. it's unfortunate but it makes a lot of sense. if they put Pokemon in areas where people don't walk, it's an environmental and personal safety hazard

I just started this game and I chose Charmander as my starter and found a Squirtle in the wild soon after! Awesome!
