You use them to increase their CP as well. Pretty much level them up.

Turning off AR helps a lot with the flying guys.

It's super deceptive. You have to throw it shorter than you think. The depth perception is messed up. You can see the ball pass in front of the Zubat but you are actually still throwing it too far.

I just downloaded this game and decided I wanted pikachu starter. I'm sitting in my room and the next pokemon that appears is a pikachu. Now I have two. I should've picked squirtle!!

Finding the same pokemon is good for getting their type candy for leveling up.

I hope they completely revamp how to find pokemon. Time of day, weather, climate should all be taken into account. Itd totally be addictice and special to catch something like a jigglypuff on a full moon, at night

Yeah, it's like literally all I see. At least at work I see some water stuff but the variety has been crap for me. App wouldn't even load in central park today. I'm kind of curious what the normal is for different parts of the country. It sounded like Rattatas were super common in the mid west.

Leveling up your trainer increases your Pokemon's CP cap. If you max out your Pokemon's power and then level up your trainer you'll be able to continue powering up your Pokemon. You also will start running into higher CP Pokemon in the wild and start unlocking more items like Berries, Great Balls and Super Potions.

I think you just get items like pokeballs and potions.

I think you also start seeing rarer pokemon the higher your level. And you can power up your pokemon's CP more the higher your trainer level is. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though.

So while I'm enjoying it mostly, I think I'm done playing until this one HP bug is fixed. I won a gym five times except each time it bugged out and it wouldn't register the final blow. My Vaporeon is CP 608 and the defending Nidoran was like CP 95. So lame.

More likely you were having trouble communicating with the server, and the data was not downloaded.
