Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

just went to the next town over, they have a pretty big park with like 8 stops and a gym, caught a bunch of pokemon with my roommates, there was probably around 50 people at any given point and each stop had a lure. this game is so great everyone was interacting with each other! :)

So...story time.

I dont play pokemon, the only pokemon game I played was Sapphire and while I did enjoy it very much when i was younger. I never like the 3DS pokemon games when I tried them.

I decided to try the app on a whim, and had some enjoyment out of it.

Today I found out that my job is listed as a pokestop, in a long line of pokestops going up and down the block. thats cool I could get some free items whenever I have free time. However the nature of my job is very busy, so I dont have much free time. I managed to swipe some free items only twice within 9 hours.

I work as a chef in an traditional fine dining Italian restaurant, our specialty is my handmade Neapolitan style Pizzas. Sunday lunches are pretty slow so when I had some free time I decided to try an Incense while sitting out front and met a couple people who came by to use the pokestop while I was on my break. I was amazed at how many people walked by using the app, stop in front of the restaurant and then walk away.

After catching about 10 pokemon, I decided to try an expirement, since I see no lures at any of the pokestops on my block and set up a lure for my pokestop, and went back to work.

10 minutes later, Im getting ticket after ticket order after order for pizza and appetizers, the bar is suddenly full and Im seeing row upon row of cell phones with pokemon go.

I dont even have time to take a picture since the orders keep coming in and by the time the lure is done, I've sold out of all my pizza dough for the day and foccacia bread(which is 23 full sized pizzas) and the bar is still filled with people mingling and buying drinks. I spent the rest of the night making extra dough, bread and pasta just to make up for selling out.

Thanks Pokemon Go! I gotta do it again next time it's slow.
that's nuts. The notion that a videogame is suddenly having even a small impact on local economies around the world is so fascinating.

Just in case anyone didn't see it before
JTp1qQD.jpg

plus a toronto bakery (Game is not even officially online there)

also there's cops playing with kids

A statistical uptick in searches converting 5km to miles

And I just got a tip about where I can find Hitmonlees in the real world about 3.5 miles away...

I'm so sore. Work is gonna be awful tomorrow.

There are Reds and there are Rivals and they're starting to become really well defined around here.
Yeah my part of town is almost all blue with the occasional red and yellow (but they never stay up for long). I mean, I'm team mystic too, but these other guys are so good I can't even get a slot at my closest three gyms lol

Save up all your evolutions until you almost have an Egg or two hatched. Go out to somewhere with a decent amount of activity, use a Lucky Egg, and then evolve your Pokemon, hatch your Eggs, and try to catch some new things. I gained five or six levels in around an hour doing that. :P

Or just have fun playing the game without thinking of dumb ways to get overpowered. I swear I did it just to hold down the gym at the Starbucks across the road.
Solid advice actually. I have two 10km eggs set to hatch soon, and the game gave me some lucky eggs that I haven't used yet. Thanks

I've evolved three Eevees and I've gotten three Jolteons, what does it take to get a not Jolteon? How does the Eeveelution process work?

Somebody just popped 2 lures in the park near my house. It's 11:30 at night. too tempted to go over there.

I popped a lure at around midnight here at my local park, which is pitch black. I tweeted about it and truck abruptly stopped where the lure was and (I'm assuming collected the goods) and left.

Another car full of teens pulled into the parking lot and pretty much screamed in surprise that someone was there, but then they quickly left. I was alone pretty much the rest of the time.

After those other reports, though, I think I may have to avoid doing that.

Bloom is starting to fall off the rose for me. is there some trick to getting north of 250 CP? Nothing I catch, evolve, or hatch is anywhere near that, there not a single gym within miles that isn't guarded by a team of 500+ CP 'mons, stardust power ups never yield more than 15 points a pop.

As an aside: if starters were going to be this useless, they might as well never bothered to put them in. WTF is a CP 14 Bulbasaur going to do for me ever?

250? What level are you?

You can evolve your CP14 Bulbasaur if you're not so heartless as to destroy him when you have enough candy one day, and he'll be a much much higher CP Ivysaur.

edit: In more morbid terms, he was 4 candy toward an Ivysaur.

How? It's disrespectful to wander around a graveyard? I just don't get it.

i mean i guess it's cool if you dont get it but i'm sure some feel that way. like, a graveyard is a place to pay respects, not play games. surely you can understand someone having a different viewpoint about it, right? i personally don't have a problem with it but ive heard that sentiment from numerous people today so it's a somewhat popular viewpoint, i'm sure

Called it when I first saw lures - Ninty will start making BANK selling businesses the opportunity to become Pokestops.

I guess? I mean as long as people aren't desecrating graves and being low-key, I just don't see the issue. To each their own.

Level 7.

I haven't seen another Bulbasaur since launch. So I cant evolve him at all.

What's everyone's best/coolest gym near them? Mine is this:

Phipps Conservatory being a gym is just too perfect.

I'm at level 14. :(

I think it's because Jolteon is my ultimate fave.

Hell I'm typing this post under an Eevee themed blanket.

You said you're in Pittsburgh earlier in the thread, right?

If so, Dormont around Potomac Station trolley line is literally crawling with Eevee's. It's fantastic.

I walked to the park 3 times today. I haven't been to my local park in probably 8 years. Pokemon changing lives over here, I'm running into people I went to elementary school with. I can't believe this lol

Cemeteries are the best! I stopped at 9 pokestops and there were still more. There were 3 gyms in there that I found lol.
There were jigglypuffs, meowths, charmanders and more in there. Lots ekans but I already captured a shitload of those.
If any of you live in San Jose go to oak Hill Cemetery and also to the plant. There's good stuff there.

So CP is tied to your trainer level? So I just need to catch more and keep leveling up, and eventually I'll get high CP Pokemon like everyone else? Is there a cap to your trainer level? And is there a cap to how many times you power up Pokemon? Does each Pokemon have a different min/max of CP? Any guides to all of this shit?

Also how do you determine what your Eevee evolves into? I don't see stones anywhere.

Also it's amazing to see how EVERYONE at the park is playing this game. LMAO I hope this wakes up Pokemon Company. We need a more enhanced game like this... This shit is so bare bones and it's already fun and amazing, changing the gaming landscape lol. Can you imagine with beefed up game mechanics?

Your potential range and max CP are determined by your trainer level- hatch eggs, evolve stuff, use a lucky egg before you catch new pokemon if you have one.
I haven't seen another Bulbasaur since launch. So I cant evolve him at all.
Well ok, I've seen one other squirtle "since launch," which is basically 3 days ago, and didn't catch him, so I feel your pain sort of. Except it seems like you're saying that's like the same thing as never being able to. but mark my words I will turn this thing into a goddamn Blastoise one day. It's early. Trading will be added at some point. Yes you can't rely on your starter after the very beginning but I don't mind how different some of the ideas are from the original games.

I've seen 3 Bulbasaur around here a bit south though... sorry I can't ship them to you. :(

Just be patient and work on leveling up. Higher CP Pokemon come with the territory. As for your Bulbasaur, that particular Bulbasaur isn't the one you're gonna be training and evolving. When you find other Bulbasaur in the wild, chances are they will have a higher CP than 14. The top dog should get evolved and the other several Bulbasaur should get sacrificed for their candy, including your starter

Day 2 of Adventures with Babby and Pokemans!
This is too cute.

It amusing when you hit the pokemon with a nice hit or more when it is jumping mid air.XD

And awww I got Flareon from Eevee evolving, despite being good with fire pokemon at the moment. Already got 4 new Eevee, so I hope I can get one of the other two next time soon probably.

I want to play Pokemon Go
Like everyone ever was
To catch them is my real test
But there's no fucking Pokemon in my country

I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide.
Each Pokemon to understand
There's no Pokemon where I live

Pokemon, (gotta catch them all) its you and me
I know its my destiny
Pokemon, oh, you're my best friend
In a country with no Pokemon

Pokemon, (gotta catch them all) a heart so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me and I'll teach you
There's no fucking Po-ke-mon Go

Level 7.

You might have to drive around and go to areas you don't go to. I couldn't find much of anything higher than like 50 for the longest but then as I grew levels I started breaking a hundred then I found a pinsir and I'm seeing a pidgeot and porygon around here.

Takes time is all for some people I think.

I think that's your problem. Apparently max CP scales with level--as I've leveled I have noticed more powerful base CP as well, but sometimes you get unlucky with a 10-15 CP 'mon that is only good for Transfer. I'm almost level 9 but it sounds like once you get to the 10-12 range and up you start seeing way more powerful Pokemon. The trick to leveling fast is just to go somewhere that is densely populated and/or has a ton of Pokestops.

Sure.

If you're a monster.

Barely get a net connection inside my place of employment and aren't supposed to have phones but I managed to catch 3 Pokemon anyway. Up to level 4 now.

Gotta catch em all.

All I want is a fighting and psychic Pokemon. They're IMPOSSIBLE to find out here in Oklahoma. Machamp is probably my favorite of the Gen 1 Pokemon, but never seen a Machop anywhere.
