Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

This is NYC midtown right now.

Good luck keeping a gym there for the amount of time you need to get pokecoins. They're screwed unless they travel to another area. Then, since it's hard to keep a gym unless it's completely stacked, they'll have to keep coming all the way back to attempt to keep it. Showing a huge disadvantage of being in a heavily populated area.

I have a church down the street, and it's been mine since I got it. Like 2 days ago. Probably only a few people attempted to take it.

Going out in to a larger city later this evening, I wonder if I'll see rarer pokemon. My town is smaller and has a huge river running through it (still not many water types for whatever reason), still find Rattatas, Pidgeys, or zubats 99% of the time.

Everyone I know is already resorting to GPS spoofing on Android emulators to get shit tons of items and pokemon. I hope they can detect and ban these people or the idea of this game is going to get flushed down the toilet real bad. This is why we can't have nice things.

Fuckers. Inflating the game like that :(

Do we know if it's possible to submit a landmark as a stop? How is that created?

I think Ingress portal submission has been turned off and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it for this app so the locations are probably going to be set how they are for a while.

Seriously? :/ Is this in the US?

All I want is a damn Jolteon but I haven't seen nearly enough Eevees. How does Eevee evolution work, anyway? Do you just choose which of the three you want when you give it the candy?
You and me both buddy.

The evolution is random.

Hey guys, I hit level 5 yesterday. I'll be trying battle soon. I did some googling but want to confirm some questions

If I fight at a gym that is my own color, I'm just training my pokemon. Do they still faint and lose HP?

If I fight at another color's gym, I'm trying to take it down. If I'm successful, I have to leave one of my pokemon to defend it? Like it's gone from my team completely?

Is there really any difference to the different color teams? The leaders introduce themselves as intuition, evolution, and strength. Do they actually affect you in any way other than color?

What is the benefit of holding a gym, do I get anything out of it?

Is there any benefit to "power up" a pokemon from the menu? I did it a few times just learning the game and am bummed that I wasted those candies needed for evolution now, plus I ended up catching stronger versions of the pokemon I powered up anyway

How you do upgrade gyms? After I captured a gym, the only option after I clicked on it was to fight against my own pokemon that I placed in the gym.
If a gym is owned by the same team as you, you need to battle them to help build up prestige. You can only use 1 Pokémon for the battle though so make sure it’s a good one if there are multiple already stationed.

Once the gyms level has gone up to the next level you can add an additional Pokémon to the gym so if you haven't already got one there you can now put one of your Pokémon at the gym to help defend it.

UK for me, but something like this can be done anywhere. From what I've been told it sounds pretty simple to do as well. Hopefully it's just as simple to detect, I imagine they can catch a person who seems to teleport between stops and lure points like a wizard

I mentioned this last night, and I Added this to the OP:

For everyone, there's an app called "Walk for a Dog" which tracks your walking and donates money to your local animal shelter. If you're out walking anyways looking for Pokemon, it's a great way to help out some puppers.

Also, if you use a Fitbit or other fitness tracker, be sure to sign up on Achievemint. You get points for walking that go towards gift cards.

You get coins from holding a gym (in the shop menu), the pokemon stays there until someone defeats it then it comes back. You can still see it in your collection you just can't upgrade or evolve it while it is in a gym

Does this game need mobile internet? If you download the area before leaving the house, does it still work?

Trying to figure out a way to get the kids playing this on their tablets but they don't have mobile internet.

You could set up your phone as a wifi hotspot your kids could tether to. It doesn't use that much data really, but it does need to be always connected.

Oh legit. I have a doge already too, and she is a shelter doge.

Install now.

I hope the bans won't be too aggressive, because I've notices my phone freaking out and having me run across large distances when I'm sitting still inside. But GPS spoofing is bullshit.

no idea which team to choose. which one is the more popular right nojw?

Red (Valour) and Blue (Mystic) are close, so if you want to join the most common team you ought to check your area to see which was winning.

Yellow (Instinct) are the underdogs by some margin if that's what you're looking for.

Captured a clafable, the ring was orange and took probably over 20 balls to capture it. When is the best time to throw your ball at it, is it when the ring is big or very small?

I keep getting Pokemon with an XS or XL icon in the Height/Weight stats. Are these good or bad? Initially there CP is rubbish but maybe they have more potential to grow or something?

Anyone have any answers on it?

Doesn't hurt that Zapdos is BY FAR the coolest legendary bird.

So, you know, there's that.

There aren't any definitive answers as to whether height, weight, XS, or XL affect anything. And this is just my personal opinion, I don't know whether its true or not, but I always try to evolve the higher level CP Pokemon since you wont need to power them up as much. That's how I think it works, at least.

Keep in mind for Ingress they came down hard on GPS spoofers without warning. So they have the scripts already to look for it, just a question of whether they will do it or not.

Everybody wants to catch them faster
but want to do it while standing still
see that pidgey over yonder
you have to leave that basement chill

Each step you climb
you get a little bit closer
each time it chimes
you're one step closer to the bastard!!!!!!!!

It's just your old world that you knew
with other people holding their phones too
turn off AR so you don't look like a fool
Time to walk to catch them all
While getting a new tan for you

Pokemon Go Go!
Pokemon Go Go!

someone can do the next verse lol

Everyone gets a fancy button!

If you've got any companion apps that might be great to use with GO (like rewards, charity things, etc), let me know and i'll add em.

When I'm near work and it loses my GPS signal, it teleports my character back to my house. lol. Isn't it supposed to triangulate me with cell towers or something?

My office is right on a gym... but the person who owns it is about 900000 times stronger than I am. Looks like they will be holding that for a while.
