Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Well I had my first overtly negative experience with the game tonight. Had been incubating a few eggs since yesterday, one of them a 10k. They appeared to have hatched and granted me exp, but I have no actual Pokémon to show for it.

My experience with the game has been largely positive until this. But losing out on hatches really rains on the whole parade.

I thought I had the same problem as well, but it turns out the hatching animation just didn't pop up. The pokemon that hatched were in my list though.

Went hunting with my rollerblades this evening, makes this game much more enjoyable. Easy to hold my phone and travel fast, glide when resting. I got to switch to a proper 8 wheel setup.

Has anyone cracked the code on how best to influence evlotion stats? Really tired of getting XS guys every time :(

That happened to me too but a couple minutes later I found a 600+CP Aerodactyl among my Pokemon.

I didn't see anything new in my list, even when I sorted by recent. I also have nothing in my journal about a hatching (do they show up there?). I suppose they could have hatched into totally unremarkable Pokémon that also happen to be what I'm watching around my house, but all my other hatches have been very unique...so that's what I was looking for.

UK people: Pokemon Go is about to be featured on BBC Radio 4's today programme. 7:20am.

You know this shit just got real when John Humphrys is talking about it.

Well, unless it was the awful servers this evening, it seems that mowing the yard doesn't count towards hatching eggs.

Took the dog for a walk and there's only one stop and one gym about half a mile north and absolute void of nothingness along my usual routes in any other direction. At least I work at a university so that should pick up the slack if I can figure out a routine over lunch or something.

It's been the better part of an hour for me with nothing. Maybe I'll wake up to a surprise. Nice to see there's some contingency for it happening though. Maybe I'll luck out after all.

The gym at the entrance to the park around the corner has changed colour a few times in the past few hours........I hope it's from locals walking over and battling and not people driving into the neighbourhood after midnight =/

If y'all want practice throwing pokeballs, start playing that basketball game on FB (send a basketball emoji to someone through the messenger app and click on the ball). Think of the ring around the pokemon as a vertical hoop. The physics are pretty similar, it's just this game makes it hard to gauge distance.

I just slide my finger up the face of the Pokemon and let go. That ensures a straight line unless you're using a Great Ball, which has some weird spinning physics or something. Now that I'm level 14, I'm finding that regular Pokeballs ain't cutting it anymore for even low-level creatures.

But getting that nice/excellent bonus alongside the increased catch rate is what you want :p

It's shitty when you get thrown out of arenas by all the kids who have all day to play this

Seems like I'm the only one on Team red around here as I'm always all alone in the arenas when I take them over

I messed up by not choosing red. All the gyms around here are red. These people literally don't sleep. Every time I take over a gym it's back to red in about 15 minutes. lol

Haven't got to play much yet. I just went to a local shopping center and nearly everyone was playing the game, just chilling, setting up lures, and having a good old time. I was skeptical after the E3 conferance, but seeing the game bring this many people together, gamers and non-American alike, makes me very happy.

Made a post in the "Pokemon GO may help small businesses" thread, but since GO is mainly discussed here, figured I'd share an experience I posted being a rural person playing the game.

I'm gonna have a lot of "Pokemon GO in rural area" stories, my first short one will be here.

I've lived in my current area for about 6 and a half years, and 30 seconds from me is a McDonalds and gas station. Right behind that, is a strip mall area that has two open stores and the rest are just closed spaces, so 80% of the strip mall is vacant and abandoned. My area is considered "middle of nowhere" since there are no sidewalks around here, just semi-busy roads. Strip mall has a single sidewalk though.

This strip mall, however, has 1 gym and 3 PokeStops, and there isn't any other that's close to around this area (I estimate from the main road, closest single PokeStop is 3 miles away?), so people are, naturally, flocking to this place. I just got home about an hour ago, and while driving home, decided to drive by the strip mall, and despite half of the damn place not having working street lights, there was a small crowd of walkers and cars, just doing shit by the PokeStops.

I am curious if this will change the strip mall at all for the good, given that since I've lived here nothing has been done to it. There's a high school close by, so the gym seems to be hotly contested so far. Gonna try to take it over tomorrow.

I'm still waiting for the service to stabilize for myself, had way too much downtime at work, which sucks since most of the PokeStops I have access to are there, not at home.

I'm curious why Pokemon Go is such a big thing.

Even my brother is playing it, and the only game he's played in the past 10 years is Counter Strike.

He's also never played a Pokemon game before (he's 30 btw).

What's the secret sauce?

Is there is CP ceiling at which it becomes safe to spend resources into evolving a pokemon? I, for instance, used up all my pidgey candy into evolving a 90 something CP pidgey only to capture a 120 CP something pidgey later. It's just pidgey so no big deal there but don't want to repeat the same mistake with uncommon pokemon like evee.

Just made a friend in the middle of the night and we spent like 3 hours just wondering around the city catching pokemon. Used a lure and he just showed up. He was looking for the vulpix i just caught. Also i didnt know if u are with friends if a pokemon shows up for you it'll also show up for them.

Pokemon is actually incredibly popular around the world. Add to that branding the fact that nearly everyone has a smart phone. Now add to that word-of-mouth of everyone that has a smart phone and plays this game. It multiplies. Kind of like a virus.

I can't possibly stress how much I hate the nearby functionality of this game enough.

Glanced down at my screen, and saw this:

So I sprinted out the door, ran in every direction, and no matter what it stayed at three steps. So I reset the app, and all it shows is a Caterpie 3 steps away.

I think the devs owe me a Pikachu.

Sounds like you gave up after a few step in each direction. That's not enough to affect the display. Read the FAQ in the OP, it gives some good tips on how to locate Pokémon with it.

By that kind of logic - Nintendo really should release more games on mobile. What are they waiting for? There's a bajillion handsets out there. For them to insist on releasing on their own hardware is folly.

Mobile games market is not fond of high-price products (relatively speaking, of course).
I forgot to mention in my previous comment that Pokemon Go is free. The "freemium", or what Nintendo likes to call "free-to-start" market is what mobile gamers seem to prefer.

Woo, got a Flareon so now I just need a Jolteon to comeplete my Evee-lution collection.

Speaking of, are we supposed to wait for that green circle to get to its smallest point before attempting a throw?

Gives you something to do :)

Seems a good mix of colors in my town.

Anyone got any ideas why some pokemon have light blue auras behind them?

Yes.

Max CP is just dependent on your trainer level. It is better to evolve higher CP pokemon just out of the fact that it's highly likely that you'll end up in a similar spot on the evolved CP curve. BUT it's not worth spending the stardust and candy to power them up beforehand. The moveset and weight changes pretty randomly, so you're better off evolving a few to get an XL size with a move you like.

Maybe just maybe
The main problem with being outside is it lacks a sense of purpose, otherwise, it is kind of better than being inside in front of a screen.

Pokemon go provides the purpose. Geo caching is a similar thing but not as accessible because you have to mostly drive to find a new geocache. And search harder. And then it's more solitary as well.

This happened to me earlier in pokemon go: I threw a ball at a paras, and when it escaped, it clipped through the ball or something and got stuck on the foreground:

Do I need to turn off phone's screensave in order to make the battery save mode work?

Also, it seems like in battery save mode phone won't vibrate when I find a Pokemon, do I need to keep looking at the phone for this?
