Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Really exciting to see another Canterbury resident on GAF, and it looks like a few other people have knowledge of/have been to the city. The signal situation is completely dire, and every time the network operators are consulted about it they just say "there are no signal issues in the area". You would think that with all the technology available to them they could pinpoint the signal issues and come up with an innovative solution, but alas not. Still, there is a fair bit of free Wi-Fi in the city if you know where to look! Imagine how much fun this game could be here with decent 3G/4G.

There was a lure at a Pokestop near the Cathedral this morning but I couldn't get the reception to use it =P

I'm about to speak to O2 about the 4G situation. I asked in the shop today and they suggested complaining to customer service because they hate the situation as well. The more people who call out their "no signal issues" bull, the better.

Got a phone number from a cute girl playing pokemon GO, meeting a whole bunch of ppl in the city and parks.Kids camping at poke Gyms. Yea this summer is just grand. I feel like a kid again :)

I just noticed nearly all of my pokemons tend to become XS after evolution, including my XL ones. Why?

Evolution is bugged. The multiplier for weight seem to be way off, so for any species that gets much bigger when it evolves, your Pokemon will always be XS.

Conversely, for Pokemon that shrink like Venonat -> Venomoth, you can end up with some obscenely large Venomoths.

They have got to be frothing at the bit to get that wearable out in stores right now, to ride this high.

Strike while the iron is hot, ya know?

It is pretty amazing to go to the local park and seeing gobs of people playing.

LOL this is stupid.

Here's downtown San Francisco...past midnight...in the middle of the week...

This irks me, mainly because I live in a suburban area and I'm already out of poke balls at lvl8

Yeah I noticed this too, it went from covering part of Ghent to covering most of Norfolk.

This is with the update, I presume? Because I'm still getting fairly tight circles, having not updated. And just last night used one after my neighbor wanted to know where I caught my Growlithe on the first day I had the game, and I could narrow it down to a section of Colonial Place. (I mainly make this comment for the novelty of having an intensely local conversation that no one else has context for.)

Found out you can toggle off AR in capture mode

Makes playing while driving much easier when your not aiming your camera all over the place trying to find them!

A daily login bonus of pokeballs would be a good idea, or some sort of free pokestop spin which would be like visiting one but free to do a few times a day.

no, they games lives from moving your ass
they simply need to reopen the possibility to introduce new landmarks

I think being able to set a "home base" that you can change once per day would be great. Basically a pokestop only you can use that then you can place at home or work. Maybe it only works once every half hour instead of every five minutes. That would be enough.

Not a bad idea.

I live in the suburbs and there's a string of murals on phone polls and walls that are marked as Pokestops. I can get about a dozen from a half hour walk.

Well that settles it then. There are no problems in the suburbs at all!

Yeah probably shouldn't be playing while driving in the first place. I almost got sideswiped by some jerk who was definitely looking down playing this game. (We were driving by where I know a row of 3 pokestops are located)

I just hope you dont catch a human while catching a legendary.

Hardly any.
If you download Google Maps offline Maps on WiFi beforehand, the data usage is minimal

Does this work on iOS, too? I can download Google Maps, there too.

I am aghast, Radio 2 (biggest radio station in the UK, mainly targeted at middle age people) are currently doing a "how to play" of Pokemon GO!!!!

So it's becoming a bit of a phenomenon?

I swear the next pidgey I get is gonna make me quit.

you're not gonna believe it, but early levels these are te most valuable pokemon you can find, because evolving them gives so much xp and costs no stardust. if you find a rare pokemon early it's just useless after a few days anyway. find pidgeys.

So I had a co-worker who was playing Pokemon Go while on the job and the next day he got fired. I was off for a day and came in last night and my other co-worker asked me if I had watched the news. I told him no and then he showed me a video of the guy who got fired being on the local news channel with an interview! I couldn't stop laughing...but the broadcast was about how Pokemon Go is making downtown a hotspot, instead of him getting fired over playing the game.
