Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Huh, I noticed an odd change today on Android, possibly related to the update. The map showing where you caught a Pokemon, at the bottom of their status page, is now significantly more zoomed out than it was previously. Before it showed a radius of a few blocks, with the actual area you could have caught the Pokemon in circled. Now it's practically showing my whole city, with a much larger area circled. I wonder if it was a privacy thing?

Noticed this too. The range shown was massive.

Anyone else

?

Team Instinct here. Haven't met another in real life personally, but we do have just one gym we care for and level at which hasn't been taken yet.

Other gyms in my area are fairly easy to take, it's just holding them is the problem.

All the gyms in my small town now belong to Team Mystic. There was only one owned by Valor scum but we got rid of them.
We now run the whole town!

Winter is Coming

Sweet. Kids around here have more time than me, so I haven't been able to take a gym yet. But there's one owned by each team near me, so that's fun.

This is too bad. I'm still on the old version. I like how it shows right around where you captured it.

It's either a bug, to prevent people from creating spawn maps, or so that people don't freak out that they're being tracked.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for Lure Modules, I can tell you I don't have them. But what I do have are a very particular set of Dragonites, Dragonites I have acquired over a very long weekend. Dragonites that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you concede these gyms now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will destroy you.

I can handle the sun fine.

What I can't handle is the excessive humidity and sweating. I feel I'm going to have a heatstroke every time I step outside.

I took a 1.5 mile pokewalk on my lunch in this brutal weather and it was a mistake I felt like shit after. (NYC)

Question about gyms:

If my faction already controls a gym (Valor), is there any point in my battling at it? I'm still in the 150-200 CP range so not ready to try any of the gyms near me (1000+CP Pokemon at most of them), but I was wondering if eventually I should only try and battle at them when another faction holds them.

I know this is an 'old man shouting at clouds' thing but it's crazy the advantage all the middle/highschool kids in my area have in this game, off for the whole summer, running around town playing this game all day every day. Us working folk gotta slum it in the mornings, on lunch and after work.

Huh, this map change is weirder than I thought. It seems like it's divided my city up into evenly sized circles, and if I caught anything in a specific circle then that's what it shows, even if it was the very very edge.

You can gain prestige for your factions gym by training (battling) there. This can in turn allow said gym to level up, which can allow you to fortify it with one of your own pokemon. Having a pokemon at a gym allows you to claim a defender's bonus once every 21 hours

The one gym by me is right outside a damn jr high school with summer classes. No one can hold it for more than 5 minutes during the day.

True. But you have money. Pay your way to the top ;)

Lol, honestly though, I was sitting outside the pub earlier having a drink - dropped a lure just to watch the people gather. Entertaining way to spend 79p.

Friendly Gyms (your color)
If a friendly gym is already owned, you'll get options to either train at it or, if there's an open slot, add a Pokémon . The number of slots for Pokemon is determined by the Gym's level. To train, you select one Pokémon . And attempt to fight through all defenders. The defenders won't actually be harmed, and your Pokemon won't faint if you lose (though it will take damage). For this, you want to choose a Pokemon you can win with (you and the gym get nothing if you lose), but the closer in CP to the highest Pokémon in the Gym, the better- especially if you can win with lower. An ideal Pokémon for this task is one of the super effective type of the strongest Pokémon in the gym, slightly below that Pokémon in CP.

If you defeat the Gym, you'll gain XP and the Gym gets Prestige. There's a 5 min cooldown on training. With enough Prestige it will level up, thus unlocking a new slot and you can then choose to add a new Pokémon to defend it, and gain access to the Daily Bonus (go to the shop and click the shield in the top right). If the Pokémon you add now has the highest CP of the Gym you become its leader (and the last to be fought when attacked)

Maybe the circle is the potential spawn locations in the area you found it? So if you found it in that spawn area it shows the whole spawn area in the map?

My guess is that with trading coming up, they didn't want people to be able to identify the precise locations of others, so now the map shows the radius of the PokeStop that spawned that Pokemon.

Are the servers more stable now after the update on Android? Is the Pokeball bug still a problem?
Are the servers still bonkers? I was thinking on having a walk to the gym...
I have experienced solid stability today, for my whole lunch hour and a little bit here and there at work. In the Southeast US. Others have been claiming that the servers are worse than ever today.

Yeah, I hope it's a bug. The highlighted sections in the old zoom level really let me remember almost exactly where i caught something.

Awesome, thank you!

Fuck that's cool.

Hahahaha this is great

Update seems to have fixed the Google account full access thing, I revoked access from my account then logged back in on the phone and it asked me if it could use my full name + see my email address.

Today has been the worst for me. Only managed to catch 3 Pokemon, all the others just got stuck on the Pokeball. Happened 5 times in a row once.. sigh.

Yup, that was one of the listed patch notes. Niantic also put out a nice statement about how the original full access request was unintentional and they checked with Google to make sure no information beyond the stuff the user actually inputted had been captured.

I think I'm done with the game until they get their shit together. Tired of driving out to a bigger park only to get nothing but errors.

Awesome, glad they fixed it so quickly.

I've been sitting on a lure for a while now waiting for this damn single-footprint (???) Onix to pop up but the thing won't come out. I thought you were cool, rock snake.
