Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I read that clicking on a Pokemon who is near you makes you able to see the steps (so that you know in which direction you have to go). Doesn't seem to work for me though.

Where is the map data taken from? It's all pretty accurate with some obscure paths/landmarks in my home town.

Ingress, an older game by Niantic.

Depending of how the people played ingress in your area, there will be more/better landmarks or just shit.

The quantity of pokemon in an area is counted by the triangulation of pokestops, you can see this triangualtions in the ingress app.

My area was full of communists and wannabe artists playing ingress it seems, so the majority of pokestops are shitty political messages and graffitis (even some landmarks are not counted, prefering to use a shitty graffiti that is not even there anymore just 100 steps aways form it). Theres even a gym that is called "Girl with penis" and has, of course, a garffiti of a girl with a penis. Dont know how much time is going to pass with that until nintendo decides to take that gym away.
They also triangulated the thing like shit so the area has very few pokemons.

Thanks to those Ingress players, I have 2 pokestops outside my house, I can actually each them from my terrace...I will never need to buy pokeballs ...

Is there a way to tell when a Stop is refueled other than it being the correct shade of blue?
Just by looking at it, I mean.

Took 2 gyms this morning and with the one I still held yesterday, that made 3 I collected on. Nice

Gah, I can't seem to hold any gyms I take. They're very hotly contested around here, changing teams every 30 minutes or so. I have only managed to accrue 20 coins so far.

It's good, though, makes battling have a point. Though I'm tempted to try and get more people in the office to pick team Mystic and stack the gyms massively.

I was so happy that Niantic accepted the park right outside my door as an Ingress portal when I submitted it, and then also used it as a Pokestop. :-D

Just spent something like 3 hours in the local park here, madly dashing for Doduos and Ratattas. Seeing multiple groups of people do the same. We chat, and have lighthearted cheers and jeers based on what teams we are on.

This is great. I love it. I can't wait to do a big walk through the forest tomorrow for more 'mons.

I need 100k XP from level 10 to 20, right?
so that means 1200 pidgey/weedle candy? + a lucky egg?

seems like a lot

i just bought 25 lucky eggs for €10. I am ashamed.

It's funny how much shame is attached to spending money in the game around here. People are totally ok with staying up until 3am at the lure hotspots yet if you spend $20 you're a sucker. I usually hate microtransactions and stay away from mobile games as a result but if they actually use that money to better the game then I'm all for it.

It's more than that. 19->20 is 25k alone. I think 14->15 is when it goes from 10k->15k.

the time it collects is set by every player themselves, though, righ?
it's 21 hours after the first time you deposit a pokemon and then it repeats the cycle until you have non deposited anywhere, right?

so it's best to just wait and capture other gyms shortly before your collect time?

Seriously. I've spent more money on games I've played much less. I have no shame at spending money on this game. Especially since I've only spent $5 since I've started and haven't had to since!

Im beyond crushed out with a group of mates Dragonite pops up first one we have ever seen, trying to catch it and the game freezes....

if my pokemon are lower than the gym leader but higher than some of the other mon in the gym should i bother attacking it? can i lower the gym without beating all the mon?

Played for around an hour or so this morning.

Caught a decent number of pokemon but there is basically nothing else near where I live. Ran into one pokestop about 15 minutes from my house. No gyms or anything.

Am I screwed in the long run? I was of the impress that pokestops where the main way of not running out of balls?

yes you will start with the lowest one. the gym leader is the final boss like in the games. for every win you lower their rep and gain exp.

yes, you can reduce prestige by killing only the weakest pokemon
but to actually make it neutral and retake it you need to kill the leader as well

but try dodging, it's not impossible

Correct you go to the store and click on the shield in the top right and definitely best to capture them all and hit it straight away!

I think lvl 15-20 requires 15000 xp each level but I'm not sure
I am 18 and it's 25k and the previous two levels were 20k each

GUYS I'M AT MY OFFICE AND

VENUSAUR IS ON MY NEARBY

WHAT DO I DO

Go!

Yes. It counts to add far as you got and it's good exp so do it!

Yeah. I'm normally not a fan of FTP games, what with their cooldown times and pay to win design. This seems to be a pretty benign application of IAPs though. I've only bought a couple of lures, and I didn't really need them, just wanted to see what would happen.

Then again I'm in a town with a lot of Pokestops everywhere. For those in rural areas I can see the Pokeball drought being problematic.

ahh thanks man! ive been avoiding gym cause i thought i wouldnt do any damage. i have a 1100 flareon but most gyms around me are lead by snorlax at like 1500+

Uhuh... "only spent $5" huh?

" I-I've only spent $100. What? That's not bad. I AM NOT ashamed!"

:P

Usually after a day or so they get taken over here too. Normally on my way into work I'll look at the gyms nearby and see if any are easy to take over or have an empty spot open.

Kinda. The time you collect is up to you. In the Shop menu, there is a shield icon with a # of gyms your defending. Clicking that will collect. So you can collect anytime you. I do so after I pass the last gym on my route. It stacks the rewards too. So I'll take 2 or 3 gyms and then collect.

Just by looking at it, I mean.

There are three stages of the pokestop. Blue when it's ready, dark purple when you first use it, lighter purple when it is almost ready again. Those are the only ways to monitor that I know of.

oooh, so that timer is more like a cooldown then?
when its up you can deposit pokemon and collect all the coins?
what if you lose a pokemon in that timeframe between able to collect and actual collect?

It's not a game that begs for money. If I feel like spending another five dollars in a few weeks on incubators, I won't feel bad because I spend more on coffee.

Does every level increase get its own animation and item reward? I didn't get anything for level 9, and just now didn't get anything for 13.
