Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Geez, those Drowzee's, I've only found two of them.

In my area:

EVERYWHERE: Pidgey, Ratata, Zubat
Very Common: Weedle, Caterpie, Spearow
Common: Magikarp, Goldeen, Magnemite, Voltorb, Doduo, Poliwag, Oddish, Meowth
Uncommon: Nidoran(s), Eevee, Exeggcute, Krabby, Koffing, Staryu, Paras, Ekans

Everything else is varying degrees of rare.

Fairly new, I work at a university though so it's basically 100% lured pokestops and a gym in the middle, so yay.

My question is the different kind of pokeballs you get- when do you get them? and how do you keep stock without spending actual cash on the game?

And the gym on campus is Level 7, what does this mean exactly?

Thanks in advance.

There was a guy trying to take a gym that's in the middle of a roundabout

But instead of stopping i think he went around it like 10 times

It was kinda hilarious

And idiotic

But i laughed

*i screamed at him to stop buy he didn't give a fuck

Niantic has a form you can fill out to add pokestop/gym or remove them.

Something I wish they would do is make team choice and gym more relevant.
Ingress was all about territory and I see no reason Pokemon can't do something similar.

There have been a few good ideas, such as gyms having built in lures for the team that controls them, or having an ingress like territory feature that if you link 3+ gyms you get a mystic/valor/instinct territory where you get increased Pokemon and/or rarity spawn.

Another idea is to simply allow you to get candies and stardust by "training" at friendly gyms.

Right now there not really much of an incentive to take a gym other than just because.

I believe lvl12 is for great balls. 20 is for ultra.

So just read a stat that 6.2% of Android devices in Canada already have the game installed.

It really sucks trying to be one of the ones to do this legitly, I feel like we are going to be at a massive disadvantage once it finally officially launches here.

Just release it already.

It's a free App. Download away.

I am sure as popular as this app is they will continue to improve it and "fix" the concerns of the players. Such as a plethora of rats and birds everywhere.

Just give it time.

I'm willing to bet in month or three the game will be much improved. It's to popular not to keep building up and making changes.

Nice, so the better pokeballs are free at stops. That's perfect.

So I can go add to the gym if I want, then? (my team has it taken over currently)

I haven't even used a gym yet, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. If I go throw on one of my pokeymans to the gym, it would make the gym level an 8?

That little town got lucky.

Does that mean a lvl 7 gym have had 7 people put Pokemon there?

This drives me up the wall, because i then see people rolling around with Snorlax, Dragonite, Aerodactyl, Magmar, and other heavy hitters. Seriously what the crap is going on. I am NOT kidding when i say i have been all over atlanta.

but have you seen any panda's doe?

I'll see myself out.....

So far Pokeballs, Greatballs (I think unlocks at level 10 or 12), and Ultraballs (at level 20 I think). Please correct me if I'm wrong at what level they unlock. Items that aren't premium items like lucky eggs, incense, or lures are droppable from Pokestops. Once you've reached the level to unlock the items, you'll start randomly rolling for them at the stops.

Gyms levels usually denote the amount of pokemon are possibly there. Level 2 possibly having 2 pokemon to fight through and so on. Least I think thats the correct explaination lol.

You have to understand that even if I go out and walk around my entire town I'm not going to be running into too many other people doing the same. Most of them are in cars wasting gas keeping to themselves. Even if they add stops it's not like there's some huge community here that's waiting to come outside and we're all going to be hanging out together. We just need stops so the game is playable without constantly driving to stops or buying pokeballs from the store.

As far as your post above don't think the stops have to be some monument. Around me there are benches (2 with memorial plaques), park signs, a picnic table (memorial plaque), a church (gym), a crappy little fountain that doesn't even hold water, a paper trail map on a walking trail, a fence with plastic plates attached to them at a school etc. Just some unique structure or things.

On my drive to work this morning, passed by one of thone electronic message boards used for alerts for drivers like "Don't text and drive" or "Road may be icy". I assume you all know the ones.

Well, today it said, "DONT POKEMON AND DRIVE"

What a time we live in.

I wrote up a Gym Guide for a friend of mine. So I thought I would share it. Feel free to correct anything that's wrong or add it to the OP if it's right.

The Basics:
Gyms have their own levels which and something called Prestige. Prestige contols the level of the gym, the level controls how many pokemon can be stored there. Gym levels can go up and down based on their prestige.

When it's your teams Gym:
When your team owns a gym you can train there. Training is 1 of your pokemon vs whatever is stored at the gym. The gym gains prestige for every pokemon you defeat and you gain experience. So you often train a gym that is already claimed by your team so you can increase the gym level and leave one of your pokemon.

Enemy Gyms:
If another team controls the gym you attack with a team of 6 to beat whatever is stored there. Every victory lowers the Prestige of the gym. As the prestige is lowered and the gym loses levels, the weakest pokemon drop off the gym.

Battle Strats:
You can brute force an enemy gym down. If you have the Potions and Revives to keep taking it on you can try over and over again. As long as you defeat a single pokemon the gym will lose prestige and eventually it will be your team of 6 vs 1 strong pokemon.

You can also use dodging to beat just about anything. Some battles would be crazy long if you aren't close in CP, but according to reddit you can win every match with enough patience. Dodge tutorial:

So why fight for a gym?
For every gym you capture and store a pokemon into you can claim a reward of 10 coins and some stardust. You can capture up to 5 gyms, giving you 50 coins. You decide when to claim the reward, but once it's claimed it goes on a 21 hour cool down.

So holding gyms for long periods isn't the goal. You're supposed to tear down and claim a few as close together as possible. You then claim your reward and do it over again the next day. Holding a gym for multiple days just means you don't need to claim if you are out capturing gyms.

My game has never worked that well at a gym battle. It will look like I'm dodging because I don't take damage, but after the server catches up I end up with a sliver of health.

Bit bored already. Not seeing much but Pidgeys and Rattatas. Tried tracking an Abra down earlier but it was at 3 steps forever no matter where I went.

They need to make it easier to catch good shit because I reckon the appeal for casuals will wear off when all they see is shitty Pokemon and won't bother to catch every single one they come across

Oh, a fellow Edinburgh...er.

The Royal Mile is pretty good for stops so I sometimes walk up there toward the castle, and around Holyrood Palace/Arthur's Seat during my lunch break. Supposedly there's a meet up on Saturday at the Princes Street gardens at 2pm which I might head to.
Ah coolies. There's plenty around in general I find :3

Had a quick run around last night and caught a few choice pokemon. I could've caught a lot more but it froze up every time I caught something and it was kind of a gamble if I'd actually still have it by the time I logged back in so I had to be pretty choosey so I didn't waste time on stuff I didn't care about. Caught a charmander and gastly but got cheated out of a clefairy by the troubles I mentioned. Also tried to find an eevee but for whatever reason I just couldn't seem to work out where the lil beggar was no matter what direction I tried :P

Seems like there's a new glitch this morning where every Pokemon on the tracker shows up as 3 steps even if they're standing right in front of you. Can't wait to see what'll break tomorrow.

yeah then they should allow businesses as well
in my village restaurants and traffic signs are pokestops

and I absolutely believe that the community factor is a strong key factor that is making this game huge.

I understand players in rural areas are frustrated at the moment, but I just want them to have the same experience I have, it's awesome. just add more pokestops, fast.
free balls and stuff from home would be so lame and be against everything this game stands for.

Are you in a big city, maybe? Because those massive experiences from, say, NYC or so, are quite unique and rare.

My town has a fair amount of Pokestops and gyms but no one is there and will never be. It will probably be even worse in more rural areas.

There's no downside on giving a couple of dailies pokeballs per day for those that doesn't have a pokestop in a long way.
