Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Is this a Wartortle?

I'm wondering if I have made it seem like I can't walk two steps from my place without hitting a pokestop or gym. There's nothing in my immediate area and it's almost always a full screen of 3-footprint wild pokes except the magikarp and psyduck in my canal (and the typical scrub mons). This is the view north and south from my apartment
It's just that within a 15 mile radius of my home, there are hundreds. I get on my bike and go on adventures. If I run out of pokeballs, I run out. I will never buy them so I can either get off my ass and go somewhere to replenish or I can't catch anything until I do. I know some people are considering being able to hit a stop from their chair the holy grail or wish they didn't have to worry about running out but this is actually a big part of the draw of the game for me. If you don't have any stops that you can either make a "supply run" to or hit as a part of your ordinary routine (or a slight deviation from it) as part of playing the game, such as in an area too rural to have any Ingress data, then that I completely understand and they do need to implement some way around that issue, but I hope they are thoughtful about it.

I hope when the launch madness dies down Niantic actually have a plan for expanding the number of Pokestops / Gyms in more rural areas, because right now, it's poor to say the least.

Within a mile radius of me I counted one Pokestop (a restaurant) and two gyms (the train station and a painting).

Meanwhile, within the same distance there are the following which I have seen become Pokestops / Gyms in cities:

6 pubs
3 parks / fields
2 social clubs
3 restaurants (not counting the one which is already a Pokestop)
2 cafes
A shopping square
A leisure centre
3 churches
Multiple shops

Yet none of these are designated as Pokestops or gyms at all - given that the vast majority of them are noted on a Google map of the area, and Niantic used to be a Google company, I'm actually quite surprised how poor their interpretation of important points of interest is outside of cities. I hope it improves but given it's based on Ingress which has been out for ages, if this is still the state of things round here then I don't hold out much hope.

I think it's meant to be a softcap.

yes, it seems like level 20 is where you can start to REALLY concentrate on your pokemon and where the playing field will level in terms of CP caps with minor bumps where you truly have to grind to level up.

Although I saw a gyn earlier today with folks at level 27 already......like wtf. a 1700 Vileplume and a 1600 Lapras were sitting on the gym. Some people must walk 10 hours a damn day lol

Sooo I er tried to force update my phone to play Pokémon Go and I ended up bricking it. >_<;

On the bright side though I can get a new phone that will play Pokémon Go. :D

Pokemon Go: Churches sign up to become Pokestops

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36806795

I am okay if churches and other religious place sign up to be Pokéstop/Gym provided they don't use Pokémon to promote religion or hateful message like that one church did.

Well they said they were on holiday there but ok. Still, it's a Farfetch'd

I Seedot what you did there.

If you're using Battery Saver mode (in-game), switch it off. I definitely got a huge improvement in performance immediately afterwards. It's still far from perfect, but it's manageable.

Sadly, my experience with Pokémon Go has been mediocre to bad.

A little background.
Back in Junior High I used to be a MASSIVE Pokémon fan. Like many others here, I started with the first generation (Pokémon Blue represent!). I was infected with the Poke fever. I watched the show, I played the game, I collected Pokémon stuff.

Gen 2 came out and I was all over it. Loved every second of it and the surprise of going back to Kanto and fighting Red, the previous protagonist, remains high on my list of "most amazing moments in video games".

Gen 3 came out. I didn't play it. For some reason, all my extreme Pokémon high died immediately after Gen 2. And no, this is no "I felt like a big boy and I would not play babies' games" kind of stuff. I actually lost all my interest in the franchise from one gen to the next. No idea why, it just happened. I never played a single second of any of the games post Gen 2.

So, of course, I'm only familiar with the Pokémon from the first two gens, and all the rest look alien to me.

Pokémon Go came out. It featured the monsters from the first gen and nothing else! I was excited to go back to my childhood. No unknown Pokémon! Only the ones I knew and loved.

So I downloaded the app. And holy shit, it was terrible. All the excitement I had was quickly overwhelmed with server issues which would not allow me to log in most of the time. Then the game would freeze when I tried to catch Pokémon, and 70% of the time, the catch would not register, of course. It was a constant waste of Pokeballs.

I found 'rare' Pokémon (Rare for my area, at least) like Meowth, Gastly, Rapidash and many others. I could not catch them, of course, because the damn game would freeze, then the catch would not count, and the Pokémon would disappear from the area never to be seen again.

I was so frustrated that I deleted the app. However, after seeing all the people talking wonders about it and having fun, I decided to give it a second chance. I wanted, like the rest, to revive my childhood. So I downloaded it again.

Sadly, same thing. I'm lucky if the servers are not down. The game keeps freezing constantly while trying to catch Pokémon. And the process of evolving them is long and painful, especially with rare Pokémon (Good luck trying to catch 50 of them).

I'm glad people are having fun, but I simply cannot look past all the technical issues and give Nintendo a free pass for trying. The concept itself is great (Although it is missing critical features. Right now it feels like an extremely watered down version of Pokémon). I guess the app is working a lot better for other people than it does for me. The app freezing during the catching process became the bane of my current gamer life.

Also, my Eevee evolved into a crappy Flareon instead of Superior Vaporeon, and it took me a lot of time to catch all those Eevees to evolve it. :/

I turned it off cause it kept making my game unplayable. I would turn the screen black and I'd be unable to display normally again in the app.

What's this about the tracking being broken? Three paw prints are useless, but I've been able to track 2 paw prints pretty successfully.

Any mmo game at launch are like this, that's not all surprising, the game isn't even 1 month all. Also, this is Niantic responsablity and not Nintendo (yeah, I know miss Nintendo seal of quality too).

All Pokemon on your radar currently show up as 3 steps, even if in reality they are 2 or 1 steps. It's likely a bug on the servers. So the steps are meaningless currently. Heck, they could be literally 10 feet away and still show as "3 steps" currently

Got two e-mails this morning that I had to share with you guys.

First up is TripHobo. They're actively marketing travel around catching Pokemon. This shit is getting ridiculous.

And then there's this little abomination.

Just watched an idiot steaming on Twitch when a very nice police officer told him to mind the streets. After she (the cop) drives away the streamer turns to the camera and tells his audience that she asked him to have sex. What an awful individual. And he has 12k viewers.

You watch weird streams...

its usually why its recommended to force close the app and restart often. Spawns last 1-15 minutes. So if its still on your list after 15 minutes.....its time to force close since its gone.

Gym fighting will be kind of lame until they change the strategy where you can beat any other pokemon by dodging without taking damage.

Did you expect someone with the name Castro to be nice? lol

Pokemon Trainer accounts are down again, you can't login with those, only with Google accounts. I regret having created my username using Pokemon trainer account, since i used my desired username. they need to fix this shit asap

How does tracking work? (when it does)

Like if I click on a Pokemon to track how do I know the direction to walk?

You don't know, you have to do some mental triangulation. It's hard when they have 3 steps, but if there are 2 and it turns to 3 you are going the wrong way.

Awesome idea! Thanks for the links!
NP! Can't take credit for the idea, thank you anonymously viral Facebook person!

I have volunteered a little for Feeding America and can vouch for them as allocating funds well if anyone wants to go the anti-hunger route.

Found the app store link too: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/charity-miles/id505253234?mt=8

The bottom-right-to-top-left nature of the full nearby box makes triangulation much easier. It still doesn't guarantee you can catch any 3 footprint mon but it's much simpler to tell if you're going in the right direction.

There is no way that your level has anything to do with pokemon spawns (incense excluded) since my lvl 5 GF sees the exact same pokemons as me with lvl 19 when we go out for a hunt.
yeah but at least you should get higher cp spawns

at least i hope so

i'm lvl 12 and my best pokeyman is a 300cp raticate

Caught a kabuto on the way home, straight after I walked past a guy who turned to his girlfriend and said "Look! A kabuto! That's a rare one... oh damn its gone, wasn't fast enough"

Bwahaha

I tried using it yesterday with little success. It's worked for me but usually ends in some frustration.

Also with new pokemon appearing on a timer it's possible that they appear (or disappear) closer and falsely knock the one you are tracking down the list, causing you to turn around, etc. I think that is true?

I'm rather sure it only happens at times when you try to catch strong Pokemon which are at least orange.

Pokemon defending themselves is my best guess.

difficulty
I was hoping at least great balls would not curve like that
but nah
it's the most frustrating part of the game for me
is it even possible to throw those right? how?
or is it just a random wasted ball

Its a defense mechanism for higher level pokemon. I figured it might be trying to teach you to do curveballs yourself. From what I can tell (just anecdotal), throwing a curveball might decrease the chance of that happening. Didnt read that anywhere else yet though, so not sure if its just my imagination.

Level 18 now, and I didnt get a single ball thrown "off" so far, if I do the curveball myself.

Since I play with ar off, Maybe when the ball curves you have to enable the ar and aim your phone away from the pokemon. Was going to try with a butterfree that just poped for the first time, but the game decides to crash...
