Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Finally got a few Pokemon strong enough to take on Gyms. After reaching level 10 I finally bea a gym take it over and im so happy cause it means I can finally get Pokecoins. I go to get my coins and I get a whopping...10 coins. 10 fucking coins, and I cant get more for another 21 hours. What kind of bullshit is that. Is there no other way to get Pokecoins? Cause if a Gym only gives 10 coins I dont see a dam point in them cause thats the most bullshit F2P pass I've ever seen. You can't do shit with 10 PokeCoins a day

The governor of Jakarta is holding a Pokemon Go event in the National Monument area.

It'll be held every weekend from now on. That's pretty cool of him.

It's 10 for every gym you own so you need to go takeover more before collecting.

Put Pokemon in more gyms. While you can only collect once every 24 hours, you can collect up to a maximum of 10 gyms

Doesnt help when my Pokemon are barely strong enough to take on one gym, and it was the weakest I could find over 15 miles away. Every gym around me has 3-4 1300+ CP Pokemon. My highest is 500. Taking over 10 would be impossible. Let alone being able to hold one long enough to get all 10.

Had my first real experience meeting pokemon goers. Pokemon has gone too far!

You have the zombie hordes where everyone is moving at a snail's pace not taking their eyes off their phone.

Then there's the time-stoppers who stand in one place with their phones out not moving an inch and blocking your path.

Can't forget the drive-by shouters that yell whatever team they rep at you and proceed to drive away while rolling their windows up (smh).

All in all it's awesome to see so many people having fun, socializing and interacting with each other and the amount of people engaged in it is impressive. But it's annoying having to stop every 10 seconds just to see my friends fixated on catching that damn pokemon. I fear for the future of this world when the updates start rolling in.
gotta imagine it will calm down a bit after a few weeks, lol.

Then take solace in the fact that the game isn't pay to win and the pokecoins really aren't all that important.

I evolved a mankey and had a 404 CP primeape but when i went to power it up I accidentally transferred it. I felt like pulling my hair out. But I caught a charmander right after that so that made things better.

When you have a charmeleon show up at your home but then the game freezes during capture and you log back in to find he's gone....

Hurts like hell man.

Then find gyms of your own colour and train them up and put Pokemon in. Also you're meant to go to gyms with your fellow team mates. There's no point taking over on your own even if your CP is 1800. If youre not sure how it works then don't blame the game!

Finally took a nearby gym, had a trainer under me any everything (level 3 gym)...lasted a good 2 hours heh. But now its blank and no one else has taken over? Who would just leave it empty?

At least i'm still a defender at another local gym. Seems like alot got added recently.

Would you rather have a Golduck with Confusion (12) and Hydro Pump (1x60) or one with Confusion (12) and Psychic (2x50)? They have equal HP and CP.

3 new issues I noticed in the last day or so.

1) The tracking hasn't worked for me all day. It just stays at three footprints no matter where I go.

2) The map showing where you caught the Pokemon has been gone for a couple of days now. All I see is a white box.

3) My GF and I sometimes have totally different Pokemon on our nearby lists even though we are right next to each other.

Well shit, apparently Japan might have to wait until the end of the month:

http://bylines.news.yahoo.co.jp/shinoharashuji/20160716-00060036/ (Japanese)

It has a quote in English from Niantic's CEO:

“At present, the server capacity in Japan is not powerful enough. We are working hard with our partners in Japan to enable the servers to keep up with demand once the game goes online there. We expect it to be released by the end of July,” he says.

They should have known how the servers wild go in Japan. Ingress is big in this country and they know this would also probably be big. That we might get it 3-4 weeks after it released in other countries is just sad.

Interest in the game if it releases by then is going to be gone since waiting for it when reading all the stories of people having fun is just tiring. Hopefully they release earlier, but if not... yeah.

Question: are berries good for the next throw (regardless if it's a hit or miss), the next hit, or the rest of the encounter?

You can check this yourself by going back into your backpack and seeing if the berries are still greyed out or not, BUT you can miss as much as you want. The effect lasts until you hit the pokemon with a ball.

Yeah I have all these problems as well, pretty darn annoying.

I think for the next hit only. As it says theyre still active if you miss your throw and want to use another berry again. But if you hit but dont catch, you can use another berry again.

The more I think about it, the more I want them to constantly be cycling available pokemon rosters.

There appears to be some pokemon that show up regularly no matter what. Pidgey and ratatas everywhere, followed close by paras. But other low level pokemon like weedle are around some days but not others. I'm definitely starting to see more nidorans than I did at the start of the game. Pikachu was nowhere to be found at first but now I've seen him at least once every day for the past 3 days. Evee has always been around but is more rare than the other common pokemon. Meanwhile, I'm reading about other parts of the world having a completely different selection of common and rare pokemon. It'll be an enormous missed opportunity if there isn't a regular rotation of commons and rares. There's so many pokemon to add at this point, it could stay feeling fresh for a really long time.

Here's a question: if I only just started playing (because the game only just officially came out here in the UK) how will I be able to battle anyone? Due to people downloading it early from APK Mirror and whatnot, all the gyms are already occupied by Pokemon with 3 or 4 digit levels, I'm assuming those will kill mine instantly?

Is there any kind of special mode for noobs?

The grind for leveling up past level 20-23 is absurd. You'll catch up faster than you think, don't worry. You can hit level 10 in like a day or two if you know how to maximize XP from evolutions and lucky eggs.

Edit: Not to mention it's relatively trivial to take over a rival gym since you can bring 6 of your pokemon to fight the gym that will most likely only have 2 or 3 pokemon occupying it.

Level up by hunting, catching and evolving (use the weedle/pidgy lucky egg farming technique) and you'll get there soon enough. The soft cap is quite low and if you utilise type advantages, you can take high CP monsters easily enough. Plus you can take on gyms with 1 or 2 defenders with a whole team of 6. The games really accessible at any point imo.

With the way gyms work there is literally NO point in taking over a gym on your own.

When challenging a gym, you can use six pokemon. If the opponent gym only has one pokemon then it will go down to pretty much anything. Being low levelled doesnt matter. What you're supposed to do is find people that are your team in real life and take over gyms together. That way when you win you can place more than one pokemon (as a team). Even if your pokemon are weak this will put other lone players off from challenging that gym because there's no point of them really wasting their potions to beat you.

Also do this when you're able to claim coins and dont take huge risks. Maybe just do 20 or 30 coins a day.

Long story short chances are you and I can only claim about 10 coins a day if we play alone, no matter if your highest CP is 500 amd mine is 1500. Yeah i can take over more gyms but what's the point? I'll be kicked out just as easily as you would.

Can confirm I've experienced the first two all day. I get the same nearby Pokemon as the people I'm with though.

Noted. Thanks folks

Edit: Sorry for the double post

Jesus, reading here some posts where some decent pokemons (not rattatas /spearows / pidgeys / weedles ) are spawning in-house or next to makes me think that my game is bugged. Somehow this never happened to me, 20 long levels.

Instead I am down to 19 Pokeballs and I will not risk any of it on this freaking 311 CP Spearow. Leave me alone, Spearow.
Btw. flying leaves mean nothing in this game?

I was just thinking how basic this game is. The game is all the time or at least every 30 seconds communicating with the servers, how come that this game doens't support weather conditions? It's not, that the server don't know where your current position is. The server just needs to check your position, look up the local wheather and just sends the information to the client (maybe for the next 30-60 minutes).

It would be nice to see different conditions like rain and snow. Specially on the map, maybe to engage players to get out sometimes, even when it's raining.
Something like when it's raining there are puddles on the map, where you can see (thru motion in the puddle) in which direction a Pokemon went. Same goes for snow (2-3 footprints).
Hell, or at least changing backgronds if you don't use AR.

Just came back from our "Pokemon GOthering" in Grand Rapids and it was packed:

heH0ODU.gif

People were ordering pizzas and having them sent to the corners of streets and then sharing them with anyone nearby with the same team color.

Lures everywhere:

caY4xNb.png

The church up the street from here was almost as packed but had better spawns:

Picked up a Geodude, then a 1028 CP Golem (my highest wild monster yet). A Goldeen then a Seaking. My first Electebuzz. two Rhyhorns, two Kinglers, two Growliths, three machops, Magnemite, Onix, a Wartortle and a flutter of clefairies.

Would be nice for a future update. Also tall grass/ leaves just means more of a chance of a pokemon.

EDIT : Who would kick someone out of a gym, then leave it unoccupied?

Thanks for the tips everyone, this is really helpful. Pity the game itself doesn't tell you anything about how to play!

When we had a thunderstorm here, the map changed to primarily Pikachus.

Wait, are you serious??

Unless it was a fluke. Haven't had a thunderstorm since but it's mostly pidgeys, weedles, rattatas and the occasional oddish. As soon as a thunderstorm hit, there were Pikachus in the apartment, at the park, etc. Hopefully someone else can confirm too. Seemed logical to me so I didn't find it surprising.

Damn, I thought Vaporeon was incredibly good, until I got a Lapras. I took an entire gym the same level as my Lapras with just it. lol It's a monster.

I took on a Vaporeon with a 70% Lapras and killed it with only ice attacks and it still had 50% HP left.... Never dodged.
