Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

What is this?

It's a Golem.

@.@ would have been a perfect weekend for this game to drop in Japan. Summer festivals have people out and about all day. Instead we just have to drink and eat pokemon-less....

Struck it lucky today in Melbourne, Australia. If anyone is after magikarp there is an infestation of them on both sides of the Yarra between federation square and crown casino. I spent my day basically going backwards and forwards along the Yarra. There's quite a few psyducks out there too and some seels near the rowing club (down the other end from crown). There were quite a few slowpokes near the Yarra too.

Later on I went to Fitzroy Gardens and not only did that also have a few magikarp but outside Captain Cook's cottage were a few pokestops with lures. I was just checking them out and then a dragonite appeared. It was just over 1000cp, had never seen a pokemon with that power in the wild. So I thought he would escape my pokeballs and run, but thankfully I grabbed him.

Anyway a good day. Will be heading back to the Yarra again sometime soon so I can get enough magikarp to evolve.

Nice, thanks for the update. Getting it off the app store now.

I was at a music festival yesterday and Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches got her phone in between a song and caught a Hitmonlee. Then half the crowd checked their phones and started cheering as everyone tried to catch it as well.

Went for a walk in the rain with my boy. Fired up Ingress and Pokemon GO after checking the Ingress map and seeing a large XM cluster over the road from my home where I get constant spawns. So as we walked I looked for more clusters of sparklies and called out "we'll find one around here" etc. and maybe 80% of the time it worked. Got home, dried off and changed then got 3-step trolled by a Haunter and a free 2nd soaking. Evolved a Gastly and shrugged it off.

What kind of bs is this? Uninstalled APK since game is officially released in my country but it says that app is not compatible with my device, wtf?

Game is released in 26 new countries, and France isn't even part of it. Why??

So that's what - Canada, France and Japan as major markets that it's not out yet in? Any other ones of note?

I suspect a lot of today's releases are ones a lot of smaller-volume ones in one go, before having to really ramp it up for the last few big ones.

So is it possible to make real progress in the game without spending real money, or has Nintendo got me by the goolies with this game?

What do you need money for exactly? I haven't had to spend a single dime and i've never been hamstrung because of it.

But i'll freely admit that I want to invest a couple bucks in some incubators though. But the game distributes those quite frequently already.

Very much so. More so than most Free2Play games including i.e Clash Royale.
Paying for more bag space and Egg hatchers make life slightly more comfortable but nothing that will out-edge anyone else. Lucky Eggs can make you level a bit faster if you save up evolves but we are ultimately talking a few days difference max, not weeks. The soft-cap of the game actually comes pretty early at lvl 20.

Just went to the shop screen and saw all the items for Pokecoins and then beneath that the option to buy Pokecoins in my local currency. So far from a Pokestop I've only got Pokeballs.

Depends on how luck you got with your choice of place to live. If you live in NYC you will be able to run theough the levels super smoothly. If you live in a rural area you're fucked.

My brother started a few days after me. He's already level 21 and has a bunch of CP 1500+ pokemon without spending any money.

Granted he does work in downtown San Francisco though so he can easily refill pokeballs and benefit off lures in downtown all day.

Paying in this game isn't paying to win though. It's paying to speed up time.

I haven't spent anything and I'm level 19, though I'm tempted by egg incubators. You can get the cash shop currency by holding gyms, though that's not necessarily reliable.

You didn't answer the question. Is there something out there blocking your progress in the game that requires a real money purchase? Because I haven't seen any.

I haven't paid jack shit so far (lvl 15) and i've never felt like the game mechanics were actively pushing me to buy anything. You'll get plenty of those shop items simply by leveling up, including lures, eggs, incense and what have you.

Sorry, no. I just wondered if it hid stuff behind the paywall or is pay-to-win in some other way.

It works.

That's good to know.

My next question is Vaporeon vs Jolteon. I see the significant gap in CP growth, but seeing as every gym in the area is ran by a Vaporeon is it worth it to get a Jolteon just for the type advantage alone? Or should I just get another Vaporeon?

Wow, randomly turn this on while I work (I know) and there was a dragonite. Used a razz berry and 23 poke balls and bastard still escaped. I don't want to play anymore :(.

I'm tired of everything busting out of pokeballs. I just gave up after throwing 10 at a 100 something level zubat.

I'm level 17 and it seems to have only got worse.

What trick?

----

Also, I read that if you use Incense or a Lucky Egg and you change the time on your phone you can "cheat" the timer. Any of that true?

you can rename your Eevee to influence it's evolution. Found this article on google. http://gamerant.com/pokemon-go-guide-eevee-evolution-flareon-vaporeon-jolteon/

Edit: since it's a new page I'm going to move my question over to this post too.

Anyone have an opinion on Vaporeon vs Jolteon. I see the significant gap in CP growth, but seeing as every gym in the area is ran by a Vaporeon is it worth it to get a Jolteon just for the type advantage alone? Or should I just get another Vaporeon?

What level are you?

Yeah, we established yesterday that Zubats suck. Just avoid them.
