Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire: Mega Rayquaza confirmed during livestream

Holy fuck.

I'm actually liking the mega design. Wondering why Rayquaza got a mega instead of whatever Kyogre and Groudon got.

I really doubt the primals will function much differently to megas anyways.

Is that confirmed? Figured it'd be more like the simple form-changing introduced in gen 4. Hold item > Form is far less limiting than Hold item > Activate and get boosted stats NEXT turn > Also disable all your teammates from doing the same > Form

Easily my favorite Mega in ORAS so far. Its up there with Mewtwo Y for me. They really did a good job with this one.

The search for the counter of inevitable M-Rayquaza begins.

Oh, wait, Weavile is probably still going to kick its ass.

I give Mega Ampharos a pass because of that fabulous hair xD

It's powerful :P

All things point to them being nearly identically functionally. The animations are super similar, they both change in battle, and they keep talking about "what is the connection between primal reversion and mega evolution?". I'm fairly confident it'll end up having maybe one minor difference at most, but still be pretty much identical to megas functionally, given that the distinction seems more story based

Exactly, it's odd that these three are the 'Weather Trio' yet only two of them yet 'Primal Reversions' and then one of them gets a 'Mega Evolution'. It's an odd turn of events, maybe this means we could see a Primal Rayquaza and/or Mega Kyogre and Groudon in the future too. Having two alternative forms/evolutions isn't unheard of, look at Charizard for example... heyo lets wait and see.

The website is specifically pointing out that its getting a mega instead of a primal as something that will be explained in the story

Is this the first time we're getting a new Pokemon announcement/Mega without a piece of official artwork? There's no Sugimori art in sight for Mega Rayquaza at all.

Do we know whether or not if these new weather abilites from the Primals and Mega Rayquaza last indefinitely?
I wonder if Delta Stream halves Stealth Rock damage too. I'm kind of excited for a more viable Ho-oh and perhaps even a Flying Arceus with no weaknesses!

Nope.

Happened for Mega Kangaskhan. Didn't get the art until after launch. Happened at first for Mega Sableye. We didn't get the artwork for that one until a couple weeks later.

Indefinitely as long as the pokemon who summoned them is in battle (unless one of the other two switches or primal/mega evolves afterwards. Weather immediately reverts if they switch out though

Possonly halfing Stealth Rock? GameFreak, my dick can only get so erect.

I saw a lot of discussion expecting it. Rayquaza is still different than the other two.

Ahhh, thanks for clarifying Joe. I do love seeing the main artwork for these though so it's a shame we don't see it for such an awesome mega design.

I don't think it's odd, it's probably related to the story.

Rayquaza is basically the Pokémon who stopped the other two in their rampage, makes sense that he'd get a Mega-Evolution versus the "less evolved" Primal forms.

Have they said how these Mega's will work when interacting with X and Y versions? Are they going to patch them into X and Y or will they not be able to be used when battling someone with X/Y?

I'm really interested in this too. Will be interesting to see what direction Game Freak takes.

Yep. Website pretty much confirms this. Also says Rayquaza has a unique way of mega evolving, but that's probably just being able to do it without a trainer (so it could mega evolve when you try to catch it)

I wonder what the catch is. Probably has something to do with the manner in which you mega evolve it like was said.

The catch is that it's going to be banned in any sort of competitive scene besides ubers, so nobody will use it anyways. The unique way of megaevolving is probably just doing it without a trainer

It was a primal age, early in the world's history... The natural world was overflowing with energy. That energy granted Groudon and Kyogre an overwhelming power. Seeking ever more of that energy for themselves, the two clashed again and again, and their battles cast the people and Pokémon of Hoenn into great danger. Brimming with the overwhelming power granted by the energy of nature, this transformation was named by later people "Primal Reversion." And the people called their tormentors Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.

One Pokémon looked down upon this battle from the sky above. The Pokémon that dances in the heavens: Rayquaza. Rayquaza is venerated by the people of Hoenn as their protector and savior. When Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre had battled for 20 dawns and 20 nights, the world began to lose its natural balance and tilt toward destruction. The people, unable to endure any more, cried out to their mighty savior Rayquaza before a great stone that shone with rainbow brilliance. And a change came upon Rayquaza, weaving in the sky above Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. Suffused in brilliant light, its body began to transform visibly. And then...

I'm wondering how many more megas will be in ORAS? Will Corocoro reveal more? Surely they'll leave some unannounced for the actual release, yeah?

I know we've already had quite a few.

Yep, it is canon.

AWESOME! Love the tusks with the laser-whips tapering off of them. :-D

We need official Sugimori art, though. Someone forget to hit the upload button at the English site?
