Shouldn't he be up for manslaughter? They are considered officers and if a civilians injure or kills a k9 they are charged as if they acted upon a human officer.

EDIT: You should go through my post history to see how "biased" I am against cops.
It's true..me and Charles Stevie aren't usually on the same side of things when it comes to LEOs ;)
If a layman hits a police K9 aren't they going to get charged? I believe if you kill the police K9 you can catch a murder charge in some states.

No matter the "reason", you and I were going to catch a charge for killing a police K9. If this guy doesn't get charged it's just gonna be another example of the double standards that law enforcement have and get away with.
Yes. You killed an officer. It's absolutely the law. Doubt they'll give this man jail time or anything nearly as severe as they'd give a regular citizen.

He literally killed another cop. A police k-9 is considered a cop, just like police horses. You'll do 5 years for assaulting a cop. The cop left his partner in the car and he died. Hope he gets charged like anyone else would

People get arrested for leaving their pets in cars, just because he's a cop, he shouldn't get treated differently. In fact, since he is a cop, he should not be making mistakes like this, sick or not.. He's supposed to know better.. Police training, upholding the law, riding around with the dog all night and then "forgetting", or whatever the excuse was, to not take the dog out of the car is inexcusable.

I feel guilty leaving my dog alone in my HOUSE when I go out, And would never leave him in a fucking oven even for one second. And what kind of "sick" was he anyway? Sounds like a lame excuse to get out of class.

Cop or not, he neglected the dog for 10 hours while it baked to death. A dog trained to do everything it's told to do, just 4 years of age.. You'd think this cop would actually feel love for his partner.. Even if it's not his pet, or anyone's pet for that matter.

I'm sorry, but there's just no reason to leave an animal, just like a human, in a car with no AC for any amount of time.

RIP Zane :(

For a K-9 officer, that's like forgetting about your partner, he must have been quite sick if he says so. To the point of being delusional.

They don't charge cops for killing people, you think they will for a dog?

It's a cop dog, so maybe?

First, if it was any other persons dog, they would likely wake up, see the dead dog, be sad, cry, and then dispose of the dead dog and carry on with life, feeling like a piece of shit. The chances of anyone else even finding out would be low.

He's facing heat because he is accountable for the dog as a police equipment.

It's sucks and its sad, but to act like anyone would even know an average person left there own dog in the car in there private driveway is stretching it.

RIP dog.

There have been various K9s that have died recently due to being left in the car for excess amount of hours. I don't understand how an officer can leave his/her partner and friend behind to forget about. The K9 officers I know go everywhere with their partner because they are the police.

The Officer Down Memorial Page has a special section just for K9s. You can see that a lot of the recent K9s died of heat exhaustion due to being abandoned or accidental.

I'll be sickened if the officer isn't charged. I don't care how tired and ill you feel, you don't forget about the dog in your SUV. If he was that mentally fucked he shouldn't have even been driving.

This sort of reminds me of the parents that accidentally leave their child in a car without realizing it. If it was an accident, that would be tough to live with.

This dummy should get the same sentence that would come with causing the death of any other officer. In fact, police K-9s are explicitly officers of the law so that the maximum penalty can be enacted on anyone who harms or kills one, just like a human officer.

It's scary how easily our brains can forget something that important.

Yep, there's a lengthy article out there somewhere that investigated the phenomenon extensively in order to debunk the assumption that only dumb/shitty parents would be capable of such a thing.

All it usually takes is a sleeping kid and a stressed/tired parent who's not used to dropping the kid off at daycare on the way to work.
