President Obama told Congressional leaders to reach a final agreement on a path to raise the debt limit in the next 24-36 hours or...he'll call another meeting at the White House.

A Republican aide described today's nearly two hour gathering as "composed and polite" -- probably because, according to a Democratic aide, unlike on Wednesday evening Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) didn't pipe up once.

Democrats and Republicans will now brief their caucuses on potential spending cuts and figure out whether the cuts they've identified are workable, or whether they have to resort to Mitch McConnell's Plan Z. According to a Democratic official familiar with the talks, while the president "appreciates Senators Reid and McConnell trying to solve the immediate problem," in his eyes it "remains a fallback option." We'll find out more when President Obama briefs the media about progress tomorrow.

So was I. Thanks to your disastrous Republican economy over the last decade, I got marginalized so much that I had to leave the state I was in to find another job. I wish you had been working where I was and gotten fired instead of what they did to me since you apparently hold such a disdain for government work.

That's not nice Crisis. I don't hold disdain for government or its employees. And I never wish bad on anyone. We just have differing opinions on the reaches of government and how it's run.

Good for you.
Seriously.
I think almost all workers should enjoy better working conditions, even those I disagree with politically.

p.s.
How much of a killer tan are we talking about?
For example, do they ask for your papers when you visit Arizona?

So assuming you were serious about being a federal employee, and you support people who actively try and make people like you take the hit on your pay check, you really are one of those 'keep your government hands off my medicare' people, aren't you?

I'm sorry, but that comment seems beneath you. You've disappointed me.
And you're gonna have to live with that for a while.
That's okay. You're unaware of the history. Just like you, BS joined the happy PoliGAF family like a belligerent asshole, and like you, I made an effort to treat him seriously and with respect. When I concluded that he had a real problem in understanding the impression he was making, I told him as politely as I could, and then stopped responding to him, because it made me uncomfortable beating on someone who clearly didn't comprehend how he was coming across. I warned him his behavior would likely garner him a ban, which it did.

I have multiple relatives on the spectrum, and my reaction to most of his posts is keen embarrassment on his behalf. My nephew, a brilliant kid, is the same way. He's just not capable of modeling the emotional reactions of others, which causes his posts, like BS's to be full of unwarranted braggadocio, personal attacks, and complaints about how other people react to what he's said.

You, on the other hand, clearly understand the likely responses to each of your posts, as you take joy in poking people in the eye, which I can totally agree with. Do it all the time, myself. And neither of us gets upset or frustrated when people respond poorly, because thats what we wanted and expected. BigSicily is a totally different beast.

After spending some time in government, I realized that it is not at all uncommon for people who do not believe in the government to be working for the government.

The notion that she's "too crazy" to win is kind of naive. George W. Bush is a nutcase, we all knew it, and he won.
You're the crazy one. Nobody ever thought W. was a nutcase. Stupid, ideologically-blinded, recalcitrant, etc., but not loopy in the way that Bachmann clearly is.

BigSicily said:
2002 were historic gains, for many reasons, but it was a component. 2003 saw statistically significant gains in local elections Alex Gage worked on and confirmed it. 2004 saw wide-scale implementation of it to great effect, the democrats got on-board with similar efforts afterwards and it's now more common place.

To diminish the history is to just prove your ignorance. It's really a shame that instead of just not commenting if you: (a) know nothing of which you speak, (b) have nothing to add, you feel you must put down the comment with the limited capacity you have.

In your spare time, instead of the internet porn addition, you should read up on Rove and Gage... it's a neat history.
I find BigSicily's "why u so stupid?" posts amusing, because his verbose screeds are always riddled with grammatical errors.

No. You'll hear like, Libertarians and hard-line Republicans say and do stupid shit like complain about a proposed change in existing health care for state employees that makes it easier to add a dependent to the coverage when they do the exact same thing already or will do the exact same thing.

TacticalFox88 said:
....Wait, they literally think they don't work for the government?

No. They are people who are the quintessential tea party conservatives who buy into the "government is not the solution, government is the problem." Despite this they do not believe it is hypocritical to be on a government payroll, using medicare, etc.

An anecdotal example would be my former supervisor during my time in the Air Force. He hates Obamacare and socialism and is an admitted fan of Ayn Rand, but he loves Tricare, the 30 days of leave he's entitled to every year, as well as the guaranteed annual pay raises. Yet he hates, socialism and parasitic welfare queens, taxes, unions, etc.

My "sorta" beef with Obama was his grandstanding, pointless freezing of federal salaries for at least 2 years to make it appear as though he's getting serious about budget issues. Yay! It will save a whopping $6 billion. And he did this with no negotiations or input from employees. None. Contrast that to his position on unionized state employees. "I think it's very important for us to understand that public employees, they're our neighbors, they're our friends. They make a lot of sacrifices and make a big contribution. And I think it's important not to vilify them or to suggest that somehow all these budget problems are due to public employees." Riiiiiight.
Basically, he's given me a reason to work hard on my tan this year.

As a conservative i don't think so. conservatism is dieing. As the old die the young are not going to grow up to be conservative. Kids already don't believe you have to work for what you get.

All liberals here in the states have to do is keep pushing their message and wait.

in 25 years i assume the parties are going to be Democrat - Liberal - Socialist. with Democrat the new evil here on GAF.. If Gaf still exists.

It doesn't have to die. Republicans can stop treating Hispanics, who tend to be socially conservative, like human garbage and it could thrive in the future. Jeb Bush and some others are trying to hammer that point home, but so far to no avail.

Well damn. I actually agree with you. The dude has thin skin. I think it really bothers him when people don't take him seriously-or even question him. I think he's a smart guy. You may be surprised by this, but I actually agree with many of his posts.
But, he has to learn that if he wants to be taken seriously and persuade anyone to consider his opinion, he's going about it the wrong way.

I agree 100%.
And like most of America, I forgot about the federal workers.

Out of curiosity (and potential future identity theft!) what is your job?

Edit: for what it's worth (and at the risk of sounding condescending), I think you have every right to be personally pissed at Obama over this.

I'm a little uncomfortable saying my exact job, but I'm a molecular biologist. (I can't be that stupid, right?)
Thanks for your replies. I must admit that I'm not really upset about getting a pay freeze. I often feel guilty for the pay I do get in these tough times. I think federal salaries have far exceeded the private sector. I just think there is some hypocrisy in Obama's handling/viewpoint of unionized public workers vs non-unionized public workers. Am I wrong?
And I'm just messing about my tanning at work. My workplace doesn't even have a window in it. I get my sun on the weekends.

Are there laws stopping you from unionizing? And if so, which party placed those limitations?

But really...
I agree with FDR. I don't think unions have any place in public service. Tell me why FDR was wrong.

Okay, Bullbo, my man. Being serious here for sec.

I can understand you being angry at Obama for the reasons you stated. But as I mentioned before, it makes little sense to support those that want to make your situation even worse. As an example, I didn't like a lot of the things that my mom did, though even during the times when she was at her bitchiest, I never once thought to side with my worthless father who gleefully wished my death at every opportunity, and threw shoes at me for fun.

Just something to think about.

Because our government is dysfunctional, and at times, don't deal with labor in good faith (hmmm, if only I had a recent example, maybe something we've just discussed... oh well).
On the theoretical level, yes, I agree, we are all the employers of federal workers, and what's more fair than all of us deciding on this, right?
(though even that is a rather weak argument, but that's a whole different discussion).
So I've been meaning to ask, where do you stand on the Mine Safety and Health retirement compensation levels?

It's a practical call through and through.

I know nothing about miner compensation levels. But I have respect for anyone who can do that job.
