No way. They've been Republicans for decades. They know exactly what the party supports and have been perfectly happy going along with it. The only thing that's problematic for them is that Trump doesn't use dogwhistles and so these guys have to constantly come out and distance themselves from his remarks. Aside from the constant annoyance of having to rebuke Trump, they have zero problems with everything else.


Also, off topic, but Cyan got promoted to admin? :O

CNN still hyping PA as being up for grabs.

Are Clinton's people seriously worried? This state is not going red. Hillary will likely win by 4-5 points. There may even be some white people (likely women) here in western PA who didn't vote for Obama because of race, who will vote for Hillary without a problem. It sucks, but that's how things are around here sometimes.

This makes me wonder if we'll see an "ABANDON SHIP!" dynamic as we approach Election Day with polls showing him losing.

If you're someone who doesn't want the stain of voting for Trump on your soul, and it looks like such a vote would be futile, I wonder if - when they get to that moment in the booth - some find themselves unable to pull the lever for him.

Aside:
the first thing I saw on TV this morning? Morning Joe and his panel expressing absolute bewilderment at Trump's continued refusal to get a data/ground game going. Trump says he'll win via "speeches + Twitter;" Joe compared it to an athlete who preps for the Olympics by playing Xbox.

Particularly if we do start to see a movement of senior Republicans openly endorsing Clinton/un-endorsing Trump. That sends both a strong message that it is okay not to vote for him and also suggests that doing so may well be futile. I guess we'll see.

Priorities raised $14.5 million in July, but unknown how much they spent. They entered July with $41.5 million though.

Clinton's $90 million raised with $58 million on hand implies the campaign spent about $76 million in July.

Pro-Trump Super PACs only had $2.3 million on hand entering July. (lol)

Not going to be the last.

The fight against Trump so far has been in the "death by a thousand cuts" phase. The war against the Khans will cause his polls to drop further, and the reality of his blocked electoral map is starting to set in.

The GOP has stuck by him on the premise that maybe he is not just dead weight. The Khan business, like the Curiel business, is toxic enough to drag the party down with him. That, combined with an inability to win, combined to a lesser extent with his personal moral repugnance, is a recipe for a broken party.

40% is what Trump can do with the nominal if half-hearted backing of the GOP. If congressmen start publicly abandoning him he won't even be able to get that far.

There is no guarantee we will even get to that point, but I think Trump is already dangerously close. If he keeps falling things should transition to the "scattered, broken, and desperate GOP" phase of the race.

Hillary is gonna be spending like crazy all through the election. Her campaign, her superPAC, the DNC, are gonna burn thru their fundraising. I hope the money keeps coming in. I know it should, but I have a little fear there.

If he is massively down in September the question is will he ride it out and suffer the loss or would he take his ball going home leaving the Republicans to find some one else last second.

They'd be really convenient for scapegoating when Trump loses. He'd be able to point at them and rage.

It'd be such a pity if recriminations and finger-pointing left a deep gash in the party..

Just think though. Hillary is tapping out all her donors now. Trump will have a great ocean in which to fish during September and October while Hillary will be begging Wall Street for another dime. Sad!

His base is so tied in the psychology of winning that I imagine it is particularly susceptible to being demoralized if he gets defined as a loser. It may be doubly so since they're targeting these supposed "missing" white voters, who are loosely motivated at best. Those guys aren't going to turn out for a loser, either.

The problem, I guess, for me, is that Trump is a lot of disgusting things, but I never really got the pedo vibe.

Is getting a name on the ballot nationwide even possible at that point? Wouldn't it have to be a write-in? And once again, who would even decide who it would be? Priebus? Would it automatically fall to Pence? I don't think Trump would ever quit, but I could imagine him sulking at Mar-a-Lago, like Achilles in his tent.

This has got to be the goal. Make sure that every Republican in a contestable seat either has to abandon ship or goes down with it.

I would imagine it's going to start happening sooner rather than later.

Trump is already publicly admitting that he lost. He's making excuses why he lost by stating that the election is rigged against him, and reflecting on his campaign as if it was over ('it took guts', 'I could be home enjoying a nice life instead of being here').
