Not a fan of the intercept in general, but yo, Lee Fang has got to be the worst of the bunch.

A really expensive one. There's nothing intrinsically bad about plans on the exchange. Fox News has gotten to you!

I'm just saying, the poster I was replying to seemed to be playing off of the whole "crazy amazing federal employee health insurance" BS talking point.

Do you guys think they're going to try and repeal obamacare again when they come back or move on to tax reform?

I hate having to worry about this shit.

Meanwhile Glenn is spending his days trolling Neera Tanden on Twitter and accusing her of being antisemitic. They have such a toxic culture there where apparently everyone has to devolve into being a fucking Twitter troll.

you could just stop reading twitter, you know. or unfollow those specific people. nobody is forcing you to gaze helplessly at the ten or twenty people who have decided to spend their professional careers with highschool level histrionics and maturity.

I look at them because right now? They are the faces and voices of the "more left than the Dems".

TYT, Jacobin, Intercept, Chapo, etc. They are the faces. Along with Bernie I guess.

Not DSA, not the many black socalists out there. Not the anti-prison activists and more.

Those guys.

The left deserve better. And I wish the latters (ok, the better side of DSA, not the dumb trolling side) were the ones to provide a better left in the US.

Why would I unfollow smart people because Glenn Greenwald trolls their mentions?

I'd block these trolls, except Jack Dorsey in his infinite wisdom forces these conversations on your timeline anyways - and then you just have half of the tweets in a long, ranting conversation that makes no sense.

The problem is they're not, not really. I don't think they are in the actual political spaces in which people actively politically organize. But there's not a space in which that level is represented with the accessibility of something like Twitter. So we get Twitter's garbage verse instead

Yeah, you are right. Let me correct myself.

The actual doers deserve a mic and a platform. Better platforms if not their own.

One thing I wish those left wing media groups were more interested in intersectionality.

It would honestly help their cause.

A lot of far left folks who I've been reading, talking to, following etc lately are ostensibly quite good on intersectionality. They seem knowledgable about its importance, don't hesitate to acknowledge injustices, and state that it is an important part of whatever political vision they have. But my criticism of Marx's original texts which a good segment of far left folks are very happy to embrace and quote (and I've only figured out how to articulate this recently) has always been on some level or another, rooted in its blind spot about genuine internally motivated intra-class fronts of conflict, and whenever someone breaks out about the proletarian revolution or the seizure of the means of production that blind spot still seems to be there, there just doesn't....quite seem to be that connection to see how the needs of intersectional politics themselves may be at odds with the proletarian revolution.

This is very well put.

I have had legitimate conversations with people who will genuinely argue that all racism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. is just manifestation of intra-class division created by capitalism and so will go away when capitalism goes away.

This seems unprovable, and to me at least it also seems really uncompelling! It's an adventist approach to intersectionality, which allows you to stop thinking about it.

Fox News has a report up on the first democrat getting into the 2020 presidential race:
https://twitter.com/FoxNews/status/893603843132596225

Fluff piece.

-Wants to fix the ACA.
-Is Pro Trade, thinks trade deals like NAFTA are good, but will have negative consequences for some if nothing is done. Talks about infrastructure investments to offset these negative effects
-Is personally against abortion because of his faith, but thinks his faith shouldn't dictate law of the land so he is pro choice
-for gay marriage
-Thinks taxes for the rich should be raised, but corporate tax code isn't competitive, says rates should be lowered by reducing deductions
-Believes in climate change (Market based approach to tackle it)
-Thinks nuclear weapons are the biggest threat to the world

Right, exactly. And its not even people who are denying that things like racism, sexism, etc are important because, again, I think most of them do. But if you believe the infrastructure is composed only of economic relations than it becomes much easier to believe a class is composed of members who share some interests and don't share others, whereas I see class as composed of members who share some interests and have other interests that are opposed to each other

Fox news feeling that heat.

Based on what has happened in the past with conservatives shifting narratives, we can now safely assume Trump is going to be charged this week. Pack it up everyone.

I think the base/superstructure thing has a lot of merit but mostly as a starting point. People seem to have trouble wrapping their heads around the idea that the rules of the game can change once they're in motion.

DSA is growing by leaps and bounds so I think they'll have a pretty nice impact. Jacobin is all over the place in quality. Intercept is dumb I agree
still puts out some good stuff from time to time though
. I don't listen to Chapo unlike every other socialist in the world seemingly so I don't know about them.

Let's all be glad that Maoist Rebel News isn't the face if the left at least.

He's also making his grand 2020 debut on... Fox News.

Wouldn't be a bad move, if he was certain he'll make it through the primaries, which he won't.

I think he is one of the people who think that the way to go for democrats is a move to the center to win back some Republican voters.
I think they are underestimating how far to the left a significant part of the party has moved. Centrists won't fly anymore.

It's not that a Centrist would be written out, it's that the primary will be packed with like, what? 15 names? 20? He's a blip on the spectrum playing a hail mary play that FN will be purged of kook-right Putin parrots and centrist-minded people will go back to a network by then that has dived into the ideological and journalistic gutter like it has.

Sessions is such a cuck. Owned repeatedly for two weeks and then comes out with this "ohhh trumppp" bullshit

Which is why I'm 4/5 convinced nothing will come of his latest jerk off against the bill of rights. Even his former GOP colleagues are waving him and the Bloviating One's away (and those Senators were feeding him rope by the shipful in June before that).

I just wish it didn't feel like these clowns are playing chicken with the rest of America; I should be relieved and schadenfreude over their meltdowns but a cracked and tarnished WH/DOJ/DOE/DHS/etc buzzkills. :\
