That gallup poll looks pretty bad for obama. I wonder if it was taken right after the debate or not. Maybe the MaCcain's performance at the debate won him over some votes.

It was pre-debate, and it's only their outdated likely voter model.:lol

Takes 3 days for the rolling average to show the true impact of the debate. Look at the numbers for Likely Voter #1 (more democrats), and see how his lead is greater.

Don't worry too much about national polls.

Thanks for painting a broad brush against an entire group of people based on the actions of an individual...

Actually there were 4 or 5 replies going along with that he was a plant at the Obama rally. Which wasnt the case at all. I'm not saying every liberal out there jumps to conclusions, just from what I've seen, the majority have. They tend to read into things that arent there.

Abridged. Get the dead tree version. It comes with a chapter on foreign policy!

Word.

That chapter has a really solid summary of the last 60 years of American foreign policy, for anyone who doesn't want to spend time taking GVPT 201.

Wat? Is "Dreams" abridged? I'm listening to it now!

:(

What does abridged mean? I'm not familiar with the term?
**

Answer:
"An abridged audiobook is a shortened version of the printed book with (in the opinion of the
abridger) superfluous text left out. Abridged audiobooks are often approved by the author. "

So you're saying the shortened version is better?

Fatalah said:

shortened, as it's often done for audiobooks.

No. Hitokage is recommending the actual book instead of the audiobook version, because the book is not abridged and contains an additional chapter on foreign policy.

Looks like ol' Joe the Plumber is a good example of someone NOT hurt by Obama's tax plan; he would probably benefit from it.

MSNBC's top story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27221645/

Wurzelbacher also acknowledged that he had no specific plans for buying Newell’s business, saying he and Newell had simply talked about the idea from time to time. He might have difficulty making the purchase: Court records from his divorce show that Wurzelbacher made $40,000 in 2006.

Even if he did buy Newell Plumbing and Heating, Obama’s tax plan wouldn’t affect him. While Wurzelbacher told Obama that the business would be taxed at a higher rate because it grossed more than $250,000 a year, Ohio business records show the company’s estimated total annual revenue as only $100,000.

*snip*

Analysts calculated that the extra tax would amount to $900, which would likely be more than offset by separate provisions of Obama’s plan: a 50 percent tax credit for health care and elimination of the capital gains tax for small businesses.

The audiobook version of The Audacity of Hope, in addition to omitting an entire chapter, omits a lot of various passages throughout the book to cut down on length. However, with their inclusion, many parts of the text make more sense or are more enjoyable.

Ummm...yes. Almost died from it.

That reminds me of when someone asked why John McCain never lifts his arms above his head....
Holy shit. I'm really not that much of an asshole, I just didn't know!

Wikipedia said:
In April 2004 McCain suffered a near-fatal stroke caused by high blood pressure.[54][42] After several months of physical therapy to overcome her leg and arm limitations, she made a mostly full recovery, although she still suffers from some short-term memory loss and difficulties in writing.[42]

Planning on picking up both. Looooove his voice.
Hah, yes, in spite of the omissions, the audiobook being read by Obama himself is a huge plus. However, if you can't get both, go with substance over style.

What? People are expecting a New Deal 3 from Obama if he becomes president and the Dems control both the House and Senate? Besides his healthcare plan, nothing else seems remotely close to a New Deal. :lol

The worst thing about Joe the plumber is that I haven't heard his last name said correctly once on TV so far.

No, I don't consider the botched American pronounciation "wooslbecker" to be correct. :p

well, ok, the second worst thing. It's pretty hilarious that people are still talking about him, and how the networks jumped on him. :lol

FDR didn't campaign on his eventual alphabet soup, as I understand it.

Does the same go for "Dreams"?

Alright, which one of you guys put 67 dollars on Obama being the next president in 2005?

Because one guy did just that and the Irish bookie that's already declared Obama the winner and is doing his payout atm had to pay out 3400 dollars to him. :lol

what makes you say that?
Fruad might be an overstatement. But

  • He says he's undecided, then admits he's made up his mind all along.
  • He says he is planning to buy a small business, but he's actually not.
  • He says the small business would be hit by Obama's tax plan, when it wouldn't. ($250k-$280k is revenue, not profit so it's not impacted).
  • When told he wouldn't be impacted, he doesn't change his position because he's worried that "others" will be impacted.
  • He's also not the best spokesman, since he doesn't even have a business license.....
  • ....and owes $1200 in back taxes.

When he approached Obama, he stated that he was going to buy a business that makes 250 to 280 thousands bucks annually. He makes 40,000 the business only grossed a 100,000 and he talking like it was on the brink of happening and to top it off he benefits from Obama's plan.

People may be ready for hope and change but they'll have to be eased into the Newer Deal. You can't campaign on raising personal income taxes to European levels.

(I'm not saying Obama will or has ever said he will do that, I'm just stating I think it's possible, given his propensity for "fair trade" and the current economic climate causing the public to being open to misguided steering...a la FDR).

So...we should have gone deeper into the Great Depression? Seeing as how FDR steered us out of it.

Wow just saw on the news that MLB agreed to delay the world series 15 minutes so Fox can run Obama's program. That just amazes me.
For $1 million dollars. Plus that would be Game 7 (which probably won't happen if the Rays dominate the Phillies).

I'm hoping for a New Deal. I'm hoping he's more liberal than he lets on. I think he's ultimately pretty pragmatic and isn't going to try to do things he can't get done, but I hope he pushes this country so hard to the left that the right has to come along. I want an anti-Reagan, who will put the country back in the middle instead of a thousand miles to the right. The New Deal was a good thing, and I think we could use another.

Sorry if this was already talked about, what was up with McCain saying his plan was similar to FDR and Clinton's? Isn't that a way to alienate your base? Bizarre.

If only I had worked for the McCain camp.... things would've been different.

Actually, it's like you DO work for the McCain camp. The level of competency seems to be about the same.

One of the more humorous things about McCain is his constant pandering to Clinton voters. I'm sure the base loves that.

Can someone please explain to me what makes an average joe like joe think the way he does? Is it the (false) american dream that we will all be rich someday? Is he really that concerned that Bill Gates is paying a higher tax rate than him? What drives a man to be so selfless? Is he just a simple victim of republican fear mongering? Is he just trying to sound like a fat cat on TV? WHY JOE WHY?

Most of his base probably thinks FDR was a Republican. And they've been using Hillary Clinton as a shield since March.

You sexist.

BTW, in punditry news, Glenn Beck has signed on with FOXNews instead of CNN/Headline News. They were running low on wacko Righty pundits.
