Can someone explain to me why the national polls are tightening up but the state polls are improving for Obama?
State polling lags national polling; also it's hard to tell where the movement is coming from. Obama could be falling further behind in Texas but building his lead in California. And in aggregate, national tracking polling tightened up about 2 points over the past week. Not much of a swing.

BTW, in punditry news, Glenn Beck has signed on with FOXNews instead of CNN/Headline News. They were running low on wacko Righty pundits.

heheh yeah just read it on HuffPost. Looks like they are getting ready to go in 24/7 attack mode for Obama's presidency.

Perhaps republicans in republican-land are getting more excited, but not anywhere that matters?

/shrug

Well, the polls aren't really tightening as much as people think nationally. Then when you factor in that bases are hardening, you end up with independents and local issues playing big. Obama has a pretty big campaign strategy targeted locally.

State polling usually comes a little late too. But you are probably correct. It seemed to be happening in late August too.

Also, six points is still pretty huge (down from the eight or so a few weeks back). The only guy to overcome a five point gap in Gallup, for instance, was Truman when he defeated Dewey.

Thank god. Purge Lou Dobbs from the system while your at it, matter of fact, let Joe Scarborough ride shotgun with him. Group all of them into one network so I don't have to listen to their slanderous right wing bullshit :)

WTF? How can they possibly still push their 'fair & balance' claim? :lol :lol

Wait, they already have Hannity, O'Reilly, and such, and you say this now that Glenn Beck comes over?

I hope Lou Dobbs gets gone next.

Hell no. If Lou Dobbs goes on Fox they'll really hype up how fair and balanced they are, because they have a self professed "independent" agreeing with their bullshit. They'll be absolutely unbearable.

(more so)

Most of his base probably thinks FDR was a Republican. And they've been using Hillary Clinton as a shield since March.

You sexist.

oops.

Edit: Woops mistake there with JFK & FDR...sorry and disregard. Too long of a day at work.

Platy: Beck is a self-professed "independent" as is O'Reilly!:P

True... I sort of ignore Beck for whatever reason, but in O'Reilly's case, I don't think anyone even remotely believes his independent claim... I've met people that actually look at Lou Dobbs as independent... somehow.

When you compare Dobbs to Bill-O he sure looks like an independent.

538 Battleground Update:

2947435524_97f2fb6043_o.jpg

As we've done on the sixteenth of every month since June, FiveThirtyEight presents the our final update of battleground states, now a mere 19 days before the election. It is not a pretty scene for John McCain. For Barack Obama, the view looks pretty sweet.

Senator Barack Obama now holds states totaling 286 electoral votes outside the battleground zone. We project 78 more electoral votes to go blue on Election Night, for a total of 364 in Obama's column. West Virginia's 5 votes are pure tossup, and states totaling 169 electoral votes for Senator John McCain.
Dayuuuuuuum.

HHAAHA.

This McCain adviser just now on MSNBC said: "Obama is more worried about winning this election using character assassination and by not talking about the issues and his policies."

Seriously? What fucking rock does she live under?

As long as Fox News exists as it is, this country will always be utterly divided. I fear the utter hatred the channel is going to unleash on Obama day in and day out throughout his Presidency. Dressing him down every chance they get, its not going to be pretty.

You're pretty naive if you think these shit-stains believe a word they say. And typically, entire campaigns live in their own reality distortion fields. What did you expect her to say? Admit the opposite?

Saw that too. She worked for President Bush... There's no hope in speculating why she said what she said.

Well, I just got that shitty robo-call saying Obama is friends with terrorists. (St. Louis, MO)

I fucking hate John McCain and the GOP in general.

I feel as if I should post that dailyshow pie chart here... heh.

Technically though, I'm registered as "decline to state" for my political party. There are enough issues out there that I don't think there's many people that 100% believe in everything that party line dictates... most of them probably don't realize it though as they focus on their core issue(s). While I'm certainly voting for Obama, I am definitely not a Democrat, and would not vote for just any of them. I have and would vote third party again. I'm generally pragmatic though, so if there's a 50/50 race between the major parties, the one I like better is getting my vote (rather than "throwing it away").

EDIT: Hilarious two posts there Lamon
