Anyway, having now clue what the hell this 'Joe the plumber' shit was about, I just watched the segment. This is supposed to be INCRIMINATING against Obama?? I thought that exchange reflected extremely well on him, even if he couldnt guarantee that guy lower taxes. He explained his perspective and his policy in a very rational, and what I believe to be a convincing way. McCains attempt to repeatedly bring up that exchange and exploit it in a negative light for Obama seems that much more pathetic to me now.

New McCain attack ad coming out tomorrow:

"Obama says that kids need to put down the video games, but he just spent thousands to put ads in video games. Obama a hypocrite? You betcha."

More like

It's unfortunate that the World Series' first pitch is being delayed for Obama's political pitch," said RNC spokesman Alex Conant. "Not only is Obama putting politics before principle, he's putting it before our national pastime."
He added later, via instant message, of Mr. Obama: “He puts himself first – literally.”

But Scott Grogin, a spokesman for Fox Broadcasting Company, said on Wednesday that it was the network that made the request to Major League Baseball to delay the start of Game Six by 20 minutes. The network did so after Fox received the request from the Obama campaign to buy the block of time, at a cost of nearly $1 million.

Obama no like me playing vid games, I no like Obama >:( .

Did they ever discuss immigration in any of the debates? I don't remember hearing the question come up.

That's the great part of McCain bringing this up: everyone will see this now. It's going to be played by the major news networks. It's going to be talked about. It's totally going to backfire on McCain. I'm thinking Obama wasn't even ready to bring this up and wasn't going to, but it's like a gift from the electoral gods. Once people see the full context, it's going to be a big minus for McCain.

Joe the Plumber is a McCain strategy that will reach beyond the debate, although not very far. Joe is scheduled to be on several morning talk shows tomorrow and is already being pretty down on Obama.

Nope not at all. It'd be a tricky issue for McCain, that's for sure.:lol

Bush solved that problem by making sure no immigrants want to come to our country :lol

First of all: "PoliGAF Debate #3 Thread of Hey Joe, where you goin' with that plunger in your hand". Awesome. :)

Anyway, just got back from dinner after watching the debate. I've actually grown quite tired of these debates, even though I thought the moderator was the best of the ones we've seen. Excellent questions were asked which were answered with basically the same talking points we've been hearing for weeks.

McCain needed to hit this one out of the park. I thought he was on his way to maybe doing it early on, but he quickly devolved into the only thing I can think of: a curmudgeon. The guy just came off as completely angry, disrespectful and sarcastic. My wife and I found ourselves completely tuning out anytime he started speaking. And I hate that we're going to be hearing Joe the Plumber for the next week straight.

I think the one part that I (and I think many viewers) was waiting the most for was for McCain to hit the topics of Lewis and Ayers. But damn, Obama answered it amazingly well, totally kept his cool, and downplayed it as a topic that nobody cares about. What did McCain do in response? NOTHING. He could've kept hammering on it, but like with almost all the other questions, he either didn't fight hard enough or just sat there and smirked, making snide, throwaway comments that continued to diminish himself every step of the way. In terms of stage presence, McCain seems lost. He fidgets like crazy, and he kept making sighing/breathing tell sounds over Obama as he spoke.

There were some decent exchanges, but nothing game changing. Which for McCain is slightly positive, but I don't believe it's enough. Polls will probably tighten up heading into the weekend, and then probably stay within 5 points until the end (unless someone really screws up).

How would him being down on Obama (against Obama?) reinforce that it's a bad decision to use him for the McCain campaign strategy?

what's this ZERO thing everyone is talking about?

McCain apparently didn't read Obama's policies and kept insisting on him fining small businesses for not having health insurance. He interrupted Obama a couple times and asked him "How much will you fine Joe the Plumber?" "Zero" and then he just got a deer in headlights and mouth agape as Obama talked about the exemption.:lol

Anyone else here think the biggest win for Obama at this debate was being able to get the last word/address with America?

I think that was more major than any of the little victories being discussed.

I'm sure this has been asked countless times, but what was the general consensus on this debate? Who "won"?

McCain came out swinging, quickly devolved into an angry little unprepared manchild.

Obama came through in characteristic, cool, rational style

Yeah that's always good, it wasn't his strongest closing, but it was quite a good capper.

Barry's Half Hour of Hopium Power will be a better one I'm thinking.:lol

About 1:10 in that video is actually McCain's best reaction, looking back and forth uncomfortably and fidgeting with his notepad.

Okay, close second to his initial "Zero?" *dumbfounded* response :lol

Forget reading Obama's policies, apparently he didn't even listen to Obama's response when he tried this at the last debate. Makes you wonder what he keeps writing on those notepads they give each of them.

AHAHAHAHAHA, I'm listening to the repeat in the background right now. I didn't realize McCain actually said "Zero?!" I thought he just mouthed it :lol :lol :lol

I couldn't beleive what I was watching when I saw that. Since it was brought up in the previous debate I was shocked to see that McCain apparently wasn't paying attention last time. The way his mouth hung open was hillarious.
Well, I think a lot of the time, the goal is simply to repeat an attack enough that people start to believe it. He's also repeated the "Obama voted to raise taxes on those making only 42K a year" line repeatedly.

So after breezing through the last few pages skimming reactions, no one else seemed to comment on McCain's snort. Did you guys miss it? After his awkward delivery on the joke at the very end of the debate, while laughing to himself, he actually snorted.

It was just McCain trying to "set the tone" of the debate (the debate version of "dominating the news cycle").

Remember McCain needs a game changer, and if he didn't do it in the first question and for the duration of the debate he doesn't have one. I think he picked Joe THE Plumber because it was one the right wing pundits were already familiar with, and one that Barack may not have been expecting at the debate (unlike Ayers).

McCain tried to paint it as Obama shitting on (lol plumbers) this guy, then introduce the wealth redistribution boogeyman. I don't think he even did a good job at that as it turned into a really weird meme. I bet it was especially confusing for people, who didn't know the back story, or missed the sentence or two of "context" mccain gave it.
