Wait.. Gies did the review?

This explains everything. Even tho polygon is still a mess with or without his contribution

I guess no one is allowed to think the XB1 version of anything is better without being paid off by MS.

I never play CoD so this doesn't mean anything to me, but if I was getting it, I'd always go for better frame rate over better resolution. All this does is confirm to me that this one game is a shitty port that wasn't optimized for, or even looks, next gen and holds zero weight when it comes to comparing the 2 systems.

I am wondering how Polygon's eyes can be so discerning on the visuals when IGN (who I am no big fan of ) has this to say :
It’s difficult to appreciate the variation between current-gen and next-gen in TV commercials or a browser window, but up close and personal, the difference is drastic. Whereas the current-gen versions look muddy with blotchy textures, characters, weapon models, and environments are presented in vivid detail on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Call of Duty engine fares surprisingly well on next-gen, but even then Ghosts lacks a lot of the added atmospheric effects and visual panache that makes competing games look so realistic. I’m eager to see what a future Call of Duty looks like when maintaining 60 frames-per-second on current-gen is no longer a concern.

When comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions side-by-side, there’s little to no variation in textures and effects, but there is a discernible difference in resolution. While both are displayed at 1080p, the Xbox One version upscales the game from 720p resolution. In contrast, the PS4 version runs natively at 1080p, which makes character models, weapons, and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed. The difference is especially apparent on larger-sized TVs, where pixel density weighs more heavily in picture quality.

Yowzers what a train wreck of a game. Why would they push the PS4 version to 1080p with it affecting the framerate? I mean this is Caller Dewdy. It isn't the most graphically intense game. Why IW would sabotage this version for better resolution seems odd. 60fps in CoD MP is a must. Seems to be a shit year with this CoD. Not so next gen versions. Recycled maps and cut scenes from previous games. Treyarch>what's left of this rotting corpse that is IW. Sheesh.

Oh and polygon gonna polygon.

I'm curious if there really are no drops in the XB1 version. Isn't there a gif of it chugging massively when a guy does a 180?

I don't get shit like this. Polygon is providing better content, information, and reviews than I have seen in years. They actually review shit in length and aren't afraid to give lower scores. It's refreshing to see honestly. What did they do wrong here? Are you suggesting the score is too high or low? You think they should be bashing Xbox One no matter what? You are mad they couldn't tell a difference between the 2 versions? Oh, you guys have all seen them in person? Where are your reviews?

Well, this reviewer - and site - almost certainly just landed themselves in the hot seat. But, with that said, I don't understand why people place such high value on the opinions of others who are honestly no more better equipped to judge a game than they themselves are. More often than not they're either way off base depending on your own view, or even if they're right about something, you, and you alone, determine how big a factor that is for you in your own personal gaming experience.

Polygon COD Ghosts scores:
PS3/PS4/360 = 6.5
Xbone - 7.0

LOL. So the better graphics only count on the Xbone version? PS4 version equal to PS3 version? LOL. Ok Polygon.

BF3 Xbox one - lower framerate and lower resolution than PS4 version = same score as PS4 version.
Ghosts Xbox one - better framerate and lower resolution than PS4 version = higher score than PS4 version.

Hmm.

I have no issue with the framerate being better on Xbox one (and to me that would make it a slightly better version), but at least use the same logic across other reviews.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

This isn't true right?

The point is Ghost runs like shit on a Titan. How in the world is 360 and X1 the only versions that run a steady and smooth 60fps.

Something isn't adding up.

When looking at the game side by side, and you cannot tell the difference how is that wrong? That seems like a legitimate test to me. 1080p is better for sure, but if you really can't tell the difference between the two versions of the game, why would the one with better framerate (in a game that lives and dies on framerate) not score better?

People just want to hate because it's Polygon, even though other outlets have said similar.

A person who can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p needs to have their eyes checked by an optometrist. They certainly shouldn't be reviewing games without proper prescription eyewear.

You know what, every xbone game can snap TV, watching TV and playing COD together already worth 3 more extra points. COD on Xbone should score perfect 10.

From now on, every game on Xbone should add 3 points

Yeeeeeah ok, and every PC game should get more points for being able to do other things than game? It's a game review. You don't review the console abilities in every game review.

If you want to do that though, make sure you take points away for hearing everyone's Kinect mic picking up the game volume and blasting it through to everyone in the lobby, and for all the people that are AFK because they're busy snapping other things instead of playing a game.

This thread has potential
to get locked.

This should be fun as all these reviews start appearing regardless if you like the reviewer/site... it will be fun!

This comes from their origins (funded by MS).
They will always be biased in the eyes of a lot of people.

That said, this is unnaceptable, man:

It's ridiculous. You either saw a difference or you didn't. You can't say that maybe it was your imagination.

That's simply ridiculous. Until they show bias in some major way, that accusation is bullshit.

I don't see a problem with that. They aren't doing a technical analysis. He doesn't have enough confidence to say "Yeah PS4 definitely looks better" and think it simply could be in his head due to the resolution crap the last few weeks.

It's not about PS4 it's about polygon look at this mess

It's honestly not that ridiculous given how CoD looks on even a fantastic PC. If the difference between upscaled 720p and native 1080p is marginal, blame the developers - not the guys who point it out.

Gies is great. I seen him be critical of everything and providing context and information. I've been following him since Polygon's launch. I have no idea why people hate on him so much.

Just because Polygon received funding from Microsoft doesn't mean they have no credibility. That is ridiculous to write them off based on this. Microsoft is a large company and does more than just Xbox. Do you have evidence that they have skewed their news and coverage towards Xbox? I have seen no such thing. I have seen them be open and critical of both. Gies specifically has been critical of Xbox on Twitter. To suggest a .5 difference is them favoring Microsoft is bat shit fucking ridiculous. If that was the case we should have seen a score in the 9s.

And no, I fucking despise Fox News.

Gies really doesn't like Sony. I spoke to him at PAX once and he was telling me how Kinect has huge potential and Move is a piece of shit.

Just look at his opinions on every PS exclusive vs every MS exclusive.

I'm dying over here. Gies, great? Critical of everything? Providing information? Man, you must be reading some special version of his twitter account.

I hope it gets patched.

Reasons it's likely to get patched:
-affects PC version too regardless of how many titan cards you have
-affects MP which could affect players ability to compete
-it's only frame drops here and there, so it shouldn't be hard to squeeze out a little extra performance

If IW was confident in the framerate enough to keep it at 1080p then sounds to me like the hiccups are glitches that they didn't catch.

I'll wait for a Digital Foundry tech analysis. These game journalists might not know the difference between lag and frame-rate drop.

I find this an odd ruling since Activision/Infinity Ward have been using the PS4 version to show off the game at events and press gatherings, despite the marketing ties to Xbone.

Not to sound like a fanboy, but having known this, I seriously question Polygon's call here.

This is the funniest thing I've read all day (the GAF reactions). Thank youuuu, Polygon. Never a dull moment. That .5 is unnecessary, but it symbolizes something much greater :)

Why did the PC version get a 6.5 when it outpaces both the Xbox One and the PS4 in graphics?

Something seems off here.

BF4 was objectively proven to have better framerate 3-4 fps on the PS4 along with higher resolution, yet they scored both versions the same. Where is your god now?

This Russ Douchetick guy is obviously a paid MS shill.

Look at score for BF4. In that case PS4 has both better frame rate and resolution.

Wait what? Is this true? BF4 has better resolution and framerate on ps4 than the xbox one version yet it got the same score? I know it's by different reviewers, but if they are going to set the standard of giving one version a higher score than another due to tech differences - then this application should be consistent throughout all the multiplatform games.

But then again, I guess we can just say it's polygon being polygon.
