Honestly I'd rather have the movesets removed entirely than copying/pasting to other heroes

Makes the fact that they're missing way worse and has them "written out" of the game vs. out for now

I'm excited to have Black Panther in and I think just making him Wolverine cheapens that.

I think people that have played marvel for 20 years as magneto, storm, sent, doom or wolverine would disagree

They should live on in some way!

fox owns the right to f4 tho right?

But he's also not in MCU. Fox has him. :(

But he is a Fox character, which counts within Marvel's ban on Fox characters.

In the Fox jail.

I mean I've played Wolverine in Marvel games for close to 20 years tho

I get it, and I'm sure it'll happen, but the salt remains. I'm already kind of more onboard with the idea just because Marvel will be Marvel and that's cool, and fuck it Black Panther is cool.

Nah, new movelists. Nothing worse than copy and pasting. I would hate for a character I've wanted to be in a game for years to be nothing more than a skin of an old character.

I don't know about that. I mean, outside of a few missteps (The Last Stand, Origins: Wolverine and Apocalypse), all the other Fox X-Men films have been critically and commercially successful. Even this year they still had Deadpool taking the world by storm. I just don't see Fox giving up the franchise any time soon, if ever.

Now, Fantastic Four on the other hand? That has to be brought back to Marvel at some point. Fox is insane if they think they're going to keep making movies on that brand after three duds in a row.

Spidey coming to MCU was just as hopeless, then it happened. You have to believe!

I think Logan will underperform, Spider-Man Homecoming will be the biggest Spidey film yet, and Fox will do the math. To reinvigorate their Xmen brand, Xmen vs Avengers will be released in 2022.

Aside from the X-Men/FF, it also makes me wonder if we are going to get any Marvel characters who aren't MCU related now that it's getting a major focus. Can we expect deep cuts like Shuma-Gorath, Super Skrull, Rich Rider Nova etc. If they likely aren't ever going to make an official appearance in the movies/tv shows for the time being? Will the appearance of characters returning characters be changed in order to get them closer to their MCU incarnations (no more costumed Hawkeye, for example?). That's the main thing that bothers me, that the Marvel side is going to basically become a commercial for the MCU and lose a lot of the unique Vs. Series flavor that the Marvel cast has developed over the years.

That said, if there was ever a time for Luke Cage and Squirrel Girl to make an appearance then the time is now. So there are bright sides.

I wouldn't count Richard Rider as a deep cut, especially with his grand return to the comics incoming. Not to mention that he was the main Nova of the Marvel Heroes MMO. I'm sure Marvel is now aware that Richard Rider is the preferred Nova.

Oh man, a MvC with no Wolverine is going to be weird. I hope they make an exception for him and include him.

With any luck, at the very least they'll include a handful of fan favourites to prevent the fans from entering into a full-blown riot.

All they'd really need is:

Wolverine.
Magneto.
Doctor Doom.
Storm.

I'm sure that would be enough to satisfy people.

It wasn't as crazy, because Disney and Sony had a better relationship.
Disney maintained merchandising rights for Spider-Man throughout, so it wasn't as big a deal what Sony did.

I will be highly upset if Black Panther is some Wolverine clone. Fuck that shit.

I don't understand why people keep thinking this. They would fight nothing alike. The only similarity is that they both have claws, I guess? Not even the same kind of claws.

Wolverine is feral in these games. Black Panther would never fight like that.

Has everybody forgotten how much control Marvel has over the way their characters appear? Remember them wanting Dr. Strange's hands just so?

They're not going to make Black Panther fight like Wolvie because that would just have people online talking about Wolverine and relating him to Black Panther.

We live in a world where ganondorf is a captain falcon clone

You damn right black panther is gonna be a wolverine clone. And it'll be great.

Transplanting movesets is bad, both in terms of making new characters stand out and for the chances of old characters returning.

They need to put as many new characters as possible in, on both sides, and really make this game feel fresh to wash out the bad taste of letting the Fox/Marvel feud dictate the roster.

If no Xmen is a thing I hope they go deep into the spiderman universe and pull out a ton of villans and superheros from there.

I'd be 100% satisfied with this. MvC without Wolverine is just fucking weird. And I need curleh mustache and FOOTDIVE

I don't even understand the rationale for the ban. Marvel is publishing and promoting X-men shit all the time. Why would a video game that includes a few characters that have been there for 20 years do more to promote Fox's movies than their own comics? Who makes these decisions?

Eh, I'd say he was back in 2012 but you are right, he's gotten a push since then. What I meant more was that he's kinda contrary to the way the Nova Corps. Are portrayed in the MCU (no powers) and that may preclude his inclusion.

The people who keep saying "oh just transfer x's moveset onto y" are just as bad as the people who say "oh if they can't bring snake back into smash just give his moveset to an advance wars character lol"

Like, no. If you can't bring Wolverine back, then don't bring anything back. Let it go. Don't shoehorn his moveset onto another unrelated character. Imagine being a fan of Black Panther and getting excited to finally see him in one of these games...only for him to be lazy semi-clone of an old character. It's a terrible idea.

It's a Catch-22, really. Some would want to save those unique playstyles, but you'd also want the newcomers to feel unique.

I understand they fight different that's why I would be upset. Black Panther is one of the most intelligent Marvel characters and seeing people say he could just replace Wolverine is doing a big disservice to Black Panther.

This.

As a huge Black Panther fan, that would piss me the fuck off. Fuck Wolverine.

No, it isn't. Fighting games get rid of characters all the time.

There sure are a lot of people in this thread who solely buy the game to play Mag/Doom/Sent? I like X-men as much as the next guy (Storm especially) but if this is the price we have to pay for new Mahvel, I'm not complaining. All I care about is if they nail the speed, engine, combo system, and level of execution, because 3 nailed all of those imo, with the exception of TAC combos and X-Factor being too powerful.

And as someone who watches a lot of Marvel, the idea of Doom not being included warms my heart. I've seen enough foot dive crossups, superjump finger lasers, hidden missile combo breakers and "this game is over"-s to last a lifetime, thank you very much.

wolverine is a staple of this franchise. Gonna be kinda wack playing without him

And Deadpool was a damn good inclusion in the third game

We all know movies and these games and comic sales are not correlated not to mention fox doesn't even get licensing rights anyways so I fail to see why Disney gotta be so petty about this.

It's more of Ike Perlmutter (Marvel Entertainment's president) being petty than Disney themselves.

Given that the game is tied to the cinematic universe, I'm happy there's no movie x-men characters. The movies are alright, sorta (they kinda suck), but I wouldn't really want any of them in a game. Movie cyclops sucks ass.

The fact we'll have Ms. Marvel\Captain Marvel is great.

"Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4's roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized "

Well that kills any interest from me. But those movies keep making money so I am sure many will be happy. Hope Polygon is wrong...

As a Wolverine main from Marvel 3, I'd love to see his awesome moveset transferred to a new, awesome character. I don't see what's so bad about that.

Obviously it wouldn't be a 1:1 frame perfect Wolverine moveset on Black Panther. But dive kick, drill claw and berserker slash living on (obviously with a black panther twist) would be awesome.

Yo what if there's like these secret unlockable shadow sillouhettes with glowing eyes that don't have names but play like those removed characters

Everyone wins

Imagine you don't care about Wolverine.

But you like one of the new characters.

Now imagine that new character isn't really new at all, but is now just a skin of Wolverine (or storm, or magneto, or whoever).

It's lazy. It sucks. It severely lessens the impact having a new character should on the roster.

I dunno. On one hand, you'd think Capcom and Marvel would rather "leave the door open" for these guys to come back, rather than fully replace them and then be left with an awkward situation if a deal has been made and then Marvel wants Capcom to bring the mutants, the Doc and pals back in an expansion or whatever.

And that's often the problem with "Suspicious Substitutes" in fighters. Legacy moveset inheritors in long-running series will always be judged hard, no matter how good/bad they end up being. Soulcalibur V had enough of both!
