As a horror fan, I'm legitimately curious how many Resident Evil characters are going to be in this one. With it and Street Fighter being Capcom's flagship series right now, and with RE as the only series Capcom is releasing consistent games for currently (not to mention they've recently been describing the RE characters as 'Superheroes' in most interviews), it'll probably have the second most Capcom representation after Street Fighter. Curious who they'll pick (obviously Wesker will be one due to his popularity, in general and in the last Marvel vs Capcom game). I'll bet it'll have 3-5 characters, probably 4.

Hopefully some RE2 representation due to the upcoming RE2 Remake (Claire Redfield, Ada Wong and Leon Kennedy?) and possibly some RE7 representation as well?

I think the main issue is how do you differentiate all these characters? I can see one of them taking on a role similar to MVC2 Jill with a mix of RE inventory and enemies as attacks, but otherwise where do you go from there?

The nice thing about MVC3 getting to use characters from RE5 is that RE5 was totally insane and ripe for different movesets between Chris, Jill, and Wesker.

If it comes to characters like Deathlok, will it be based on the comic version, or am I gonna be playing as Gunn from Angel in his crappy Deathlok costume?

In almost all cases that had characters from the MCU appear in or around the time of the movie release, they came as their classic comic book versions but with movie-based alt costumes, which is what I'd expect in MvC4's case as well.
There have been some exceptions to this rule where the MCU design is the default (e.g. Star-Lord dropped in the red coat and with the facemask rather than the comic book GotG uniform in I believe all games he came out for), but the vast majority have been comic designs.

And even then they can't use the actual actors' likenesses either, so it's all good.

And some of you guys are listing some third rate Marvel characters in here. Honestly I doubt they will be using any character that isn't in Marvel Heroes or Contest of Champions.

Of course. I sincerely doubt we'll see Nuke in MvC. However, he still is part of the MCU roster, as are all the other characters mentioned. Point being is that the MCU cadre is quite extensive at this point.

Marketability is definitely part of what chooses these rosters, no doubt. As RE7 will be out by the time this releases and REmake 2 either will be coming out (or out, dependently), I could definitely see some representation from one or both games.

I'm curious how the roster in general will work, if rumors are all true then Marvel will be focused on marketability above all else, and to be honest I don't see Capcom doing much different. I bet both will toss in a couple oddball fan favorites into the mix, but I think to guess roster one would mainly have to think of what would be in the best interest for Marvel and Capcom.

Resident Evil 2 does stand a chance at a decent amount of representation with the remake though, which is exciting. From RE7 we don't know enough about the characters to fully say at this point. Though the idea of playing Jack Baker ("Welcome to the Family, Son!") against superheroes does tickle me a bit.

If the game is coming, I hope they go down the SFV route with the revisions. The base game will be playable with all future patches. I love playing fighting games online and it is sad when no players are available for whatever reason. I purchased Skullgirls not long ago and no one's ever online. Playing against the CPU is boring imo.

I'm gladly way out of touch with Marvel comics at this point to be bothered by them focusing on the MCU. I used to read Thor and some of the cosmic stuff (I loved Nova and GotG) but the way those stories continued at a certain point made me lose all interest in comics. Not including the X-Men however is just disappointing, when I think of MvCs roster Wolverine is the first character that comes to my mind.

Ok, I'm ready to give this a try. Mahvel at EVO looks like a mess to me but I've never really played it for real.

So without the X-Men, there's no chance of Capcom re-releasing MvC Origins ,MvC 2 and UMvC 3 on the PS3/Xbox 360 stores... :(

Well, no biggie. Marvel 4 Baby!!!!!!

The gaming side of Marvel is probably still overseen by Ike Perlmutter (for those who don't know, he used to run all of Marvel and is a known penny-pinching tyrant, the guys making the Marvel films complained directly to Disney because he was such a pain in the ass to work with that Disney actually took control over the films away from him and gave Kevin Feige direct control, but Perlmutter still has control over the other Marvel stuff, and has a not-so-subtle beef with Fox and has been rather aggressively trying to basically replace the X-Men with the Inhumans), so an MCU focus isn't exactly surprising. Marvel was rather controlling of MVC3's roster, and they don't want to promote anything they don't have the movie rights for.

He's having no trouble launching half a dozen new X-men comics though.

So many people are misinterpreting the whole MCU thing. The characters most likely aren't going to be based on their MCU counterparts and it's not going to be MCU-ONLY. The roster is just going to be focused around characters that appear in the MCU.

What about Whiplash, Deathwatch, Wildside, Warblade, Wildstar, Warwolf, Darkhawk, Dreamslayer, Wildmane, Firebrand, Deadlock, Badrock, Shatterstar, Knightsaber, Forearm, Strongarm, Strongshot, Bloodaxe, Ripclaw, Smashbeef, Deadblast, Bulkhead, Deadlift, Ironstag, Rockgroin, and Bob Johnson?

I'm really in two (or even three) minds about the Marvel 4 news, if indeed all true.

On the one hand do I love the X-Men more than pretty much all other Marvel characters but on the other hand would I be glad to see some of the older X-Men based designs from the Vs series go to avoid having them back with the same exact move sets (that were quite often not that authentic to the actual character, let's be honest - Wolverine without re-gen, Magneto with energy blasts, a random small Sentinel being OP?) and top tier placement that makes every veteran player flock to them once more.

I think this series needs some freshing up for sure, especially to give new players a chance to get into as well, so in that sense I might actually applaud the removal of people like Dr. Doom, Magneto, Wolverine and especially Sentinel who have become far too integral to the Marvel lingo and culture (imo). At the same time having no X-Men at all, especially not redesigned ones, does suck if it's due to the usual licensing problems like Marvel not wanting to promote other studios' movies even if they still have comics in those series to promote themselves as well.

Embracing change and moving beyond the familiar generally is something I support but perhaps not if it's forced upon us as the result of backroom politics. I'm conflicted how to feel here, in other words. Yay for more Marvel at least I guess, even if this might come at the cost of a new Darkstalkers, Rival Schools or even a *gasp* new fighting game IP (all of which I might actually prefer at this point, which is another conflict raging inside me these past days)?

I agree. How can Wolverine not use his main ability at all? Hopefully the character designs in MvC4 feels more authentic.

I guess graphics will be like a sf5? You think they will use different art style?
That would be the easiest way for Capcom, but I don't think the character modeling and specially the animations would work in a mahvel game.
Everything in SFV looks and moves a lot heavier.

Can't wait to play such cool characters as "Starlord" and "Jessica Jones". So iconic compared to low tier scrubs like Dr. Doom or that nobody, Magnetor.

They always use the comic book versions in these games.

Hawkeye in Marvel 3 isn't the MCU Avengers Hawkeye but the comic book version with purple circus outfit.

I know that, but Marvel 3 came out early on in the MCU, didn't it? Plus you have Injustice 2 using film Suicide Squad designs.

There will be plenty of iconic Marvel characters in this game...

It sucks to lose such iconic characters like "X-23" and "Super-Skrull." Instead we're stuck with lightweights like "Black Panther" and "Loki"

I also am not sure it's Mvc4, but maybe another collaborative effort between marvel and Capcom. A spin off of the vs series would make all tweets basically true.

Wow, this thread is still going strong.

Just gonna repost this.
As far as Resident Evil characters go, I'm expecting about four, with maybe three of them being Leon, Claire and Jack Baker (the "welcome to the family, son" guy). Fourth is up for debate.

Mahvel 3 had four RE characters, three of which were from the most recent entry. RE7 will be coming out during the same year as MvC4, and the RE2 remake, featuring Leon and Claire, will probably come out the year after.
I know some would see Jack's inclusion as goofy or whatever since they're trying to make RE scary again, and I get it, but I still wouldn't be surprised if they did it. He could even use that axe or whatever it was he had in the trailers. Plus literally the first thing we ever saw him do was punch someone in the face, so he totally fits.

But above all I just want him in so I can play as an invincible old hillbilly in a fighting game.

As for a fourth character, I have no idea. I'm gonna be really freaking upset if Wesker isn't in this, but I don't think he will be. Ada or Krauser could be really cool.

Meh, no xmen, well to be honest i was never a fan of capcom fighting games in general(they just don't click with me) so not a big loss in any case for me.

Are you telling me that Sony bought from Commodore(or whoever has the rights) the rights of the Amiga and that MvC4 will be the first exclusive of the new gaming computer Playstation Amiga?

If only :\

for those unaware that's the famous bouncing ball of the amiga, the amiga was an awesome and really innovative 16 bit computer that had lots of masterpieces(frontier elite 2, dune 2, xcom, sindicate, sim city, lemmings, worms, lucasarts adventure games and so on)
