I'm so prepared to get disappointed when the game only launches with 20 total characters.

I get his legacy, but people did find him very obnoxious in Marvel 3. Thought they would be annoyed by him, like Morrigan and Doom.

Wolverine has been top tier in just about every Marvel VS game except Marvel 2.
It's pretty much canon at this point.
Ya I'm down with that too it's just funny that they went for the two characters I didn't expect with unique play styles over their mascot and one of their highly requested characters.
I have no knowledge of pre MvC2.
But I honestly thought people associated Marvel with Magneto more than Wolvy. Something about his tri-dash gameplay that is such a staple to the franchise.

Yeah, I definitely expect to see some X-Men characters unless Capcom comes out and directly states otherwise. Especially since the film side of Marvel has very little to do with the gaming division.
UMVC3 has 10 of 21 Marvel characters linked to the MCU. I expect maybe 15 of 21 this time around with the remaining 6 going to the X-Men (assuming the same amount of characters of course).
In the case of Iron Fist or Luke Cage, I can't see them having their younger voices. But if they're close to their usual ages in the cartoons, I'd expect them to carry over. Though Spider-Man is a weird case since USM is getting canned, soon.

It's because of Yipes and Marvel 2. Yipes played Magneto and had a ton of catch phrases with him. Magneto also made Marvel 2 hype when Marvel 2 was kinda getting stale with Storm/Cable/Sentinel runaway tactics.
But Wolverine predates Marvel 2 by years. Dude was slicing up dudes in Children of the Atom and dominating fools in Marvel 1 alongside Strider Hiryu.
For the base game it's still unlikely, but if they wanna sell gangbusters DLC they have our number.

I mean, don't get me wrong I like the game but unless you wanna go full Phoenix Wright anf just go nuts Fiona doesn't really DO anything other than run, shove, and cower. I'd rather Leon from RE4 be in and Hewie feature in one of his moves (Hey, it's that dog!)
Actually, scratch that. They could adapt Jill's gameplay from MvC2, though instead of dodging zombies she's dodging attacks from the various psychos from the game. Hewie could be a Carl Clover style puppet who actually does the normal attacks., and if he gets knocked out all Fiona can do is run and do specials.

I would rather newer characters from Resident Evil. If not Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5, than I would love either Claire Redfield, Moira Burton, or Barry Burton from Resident Evil Revelations 2.

A large chunk of the MCU characters were in MvC 1/2/3. Power levels are always bullshit in fighting games, you had Dan and Servebot beating on Thanos in MvC3
Leon isnt a giant beefcake like chris though, and he doesnt have bullshit mind control by wesker battle suit Jill

Problem is that the interesting gameplay doesn't really work with the flavor of the character. Fiona in her game is almost entirely passive, running away in most situations and only "fighting" in absolutely desperate situations (most of which aren't really fights so much as puzzles that end baddly for the villain). Even Phoenix Wright still engages and battles, in his own way. Alyssa from Clock Tower is an awful character from an awful game but she actually does turn the tables on her hunters and actually bring the pain to them in a proactive manner, when the time comes. She fits the theme of a fighting game.
Jill's Moveset, as I suggested, would actually probably work better for Regina. She still uses all the same guns and weapons and the dinos could feature in the same role as the RE monsters.
Hewie is the only interesting part of Fiona from a design POV, which is why I'd be fine including him with another character who would stand well on their own like Leon or Ada(which also works as a cute Easter egg and Haunting Ground reference at the same time.)
Tron Bonne would be a good replacement on that list as well. Or maybe Jubei from Onimusha 4.
