Exactly my thoughts. The groupthink that happens when just a handful of people start pointing out "inconsistencies" is ridiculous. You are missing the forest through the trees if you are entertaining the fact he would do this to himself.

The way I read the comment accusing him of "having proof":
-Guy appears in thread claiming to have proof that yadda yadda happened
-People tell him to post said proof
-Guy asks a mod, never gets response
-Guy doesn't post proof, "disappears."
So he didn't post the "proof," only posted claiming to have proof.

Phil Fish may be a douche outspoken person, he's not a complete idiot to post online very possibly damaging information about his company and friends just to go "4chan is baaaaaaaad".
At least if people are claiming such an outrageous thing they should come up with something better than a bunch of fallacies and piss poor arguments.

I would also say look at social media games and the backlash against the Kim Kardashian game when an update broke the game. The internet in general is a breeding ground for hate. When you reach a certain level of exposure, there is a reason why celebrities have teams of people to protect their personal security as well as the security of their assets. There is always someone looking to mess up what you have.
The sad thing is that being a public figure today continues to be about insulating yourself from the public. Whether your audience is middle aged women playing Kim Kardashian games or 14 year old boys playing Call of Duty, there is no way to be a public person and avoid the hate.
One difference you notice with games like Call of Duty is that you will see a constant barrage of hate. It comes with the territory of being the biggest game out there. I feel bad for Tina who is face of Call of Duty on Twitter. Reading the replies to the most mundane Tweets is sad. There is something about the competition that makes people go nuts.
To answer you, I have no idea why people are so angry all the time. Twitter hate has been around so long that people just understand its existence. Even local beat reporters reference it. There's no turning back. Twitter has allowed everyone to finally have access to anyone in the world. People finally have a stage to "give the man on the TV a piece of their mind."
I think it would be pretty impossible to determine until the FBI get involved.

That seems to be the thing some particular people get angry/scared over . I am not insecure enough to believe that something like that is gonna make those games disappear all of a sudden, because of the power of game journalism has reached over the pacific ocean and crushed a video game studio with their internet article and twitter responses.
edit: also with all that happened to Phil, canceling Fez 2 out of spite is the least of his worries right now. I mean come the on with all of that shit that happened to you who would care about video games at this point? I fell really sorry for him even if don't care for his opinions.

He already did, and said he was selling off Polytron and the Fez IP, then he closed his twitter account shortly afterwards. It's hard to tell if he was being serious or not.

someone might think "ill just say my piece and leave it at that". but that's not how hate works in the age of internet. you're not throwing just a snowflake at someone, you're packing it into that massive snowball that's barrelling toward them. if they've already heard it a million times before then just keep it to yourself.

If you liked Fez, then that's not a silver lining. Fez is just an IP, what you liked is the content created by the dude, presumably.
Phil quit game development and canceled Fez 2, but Polytron still existed as a sort of indie publisher and may have been working on other games without Phil.

He popped back into the spotlight with the Zoe Quinn thing in the past few days or so. You had the whole shitty situation with Zoe Quinn, and all the shitty people involved in that, and when you mix that with Phil's tendency to mouth off at people in general and throw those shitty people into the mix, you end up with the perfect storm and one particular shitty person(or group of shitty people) with enough skill/know how to hack his personal lively-hood for saying the wrong things at the wrong time and the wrong people taking notice.
Did I mention everything about it is shitty?
