I knew you were joking btw I was hoping a mod would change your tag to that for shits and giggles to mess with 4chan lol.I'll make sure to wear it with pride.

Well, if you want to talk motive, the guy posted repeatedly about wanting to put all "gamers" in a building and then burn it down.
I'm not claiming it's true, or that it's even the most likely theory. But there's not really any good reason to not take a look at it as long as you look for credible evidence and don't jump to conclusions.
The leaked files contained financial reports and the source files to FEZ promotional materials, I thought the rest was misinformation? I'm not trying to argue he did it himself, but the SS stuff I don't think is true.
I haven't seen what was in the file. That would be pretty insane though.
I see differing accounts on what was posted and if it was misinformation. It's stunning that anyone would believe he did this to himself. Do people just not understand the weight of the information that was posted and the huge repercussions it could potentially have?
Owch; pretty heavy stuff. That stuff (personal addresses, bank info, SSN) was all on the front page of the Polytron website. The file apparently had all kinds of financial records, contracts, QA and certification files and junk.
I've gathered as much since. The same bullshit masquerading as evidence we've seen like fifty times since this happened.
the theory floating about is that
1. he knows deep down he is a one hit wonder and got tired of all the shit given to him
2. he staged the hack to get the limelight and show off the ip's earning potential
3. he will sell the ip for a "reasonable" offer and run off into the sunset with the money laying all blame and gaining revenge on 4chan whilst leaving in his wake the flaming corpse of gaymz jurnylizm
All this shows me is that people posting on anonymous forums are generally shitty. Hell, people on the Internet are generally shitty.
I see differing accounts on what was posted and if it was misinformation.
I think a bunch of Quinn's info was posted before by an attack and it turned out that all of the information was false?
If it's actually real info, then I feel sorry for Fish even if he is an asshole so often; I feel much more sorry for his co-workers though to fall victim to something due to another employee being outspoken.
Owch; pretty heavy stuff.
By pretty much any measure, the people involved in this incident are a very vocal minority and most people are simply observers. That depends on what you mean by problem though; I'm taking it to mean the deliberate targeting of Quinn and Fish assisted with hacking.
I haven't read through all of this thread, but have we given much thought to this hacking being staged?
This person seems to have a pretty good analysis of it.
I wouldn't put it past Fish to do that just to stir shit up and play the victim.
If this has already been addressed, then I apologize for bringing it up.
Even point #1 is wrong -- the website wasn't 'hosted' on Cloudflare, it was doing what Cloudflare does, proxy between the real webserver and the users, so if you update the primary server it updates the cloudflare cache.
I really feel bad for Quinn (sexual harassment allegations aside) and the rest of Polytron, but I'm having a hard time digging up any sympathy for Fish.
the fire that's fuelling these theories are the claims against Quinn lying about getting "doxxed" (god I fucking hate that word)FEZ is not his alone nor did he develop it alone. These theories are nonsense.
Well i've had a look into the 1.5GB file and it also gives a nice insight what all the costs are to develop a PS3/PS4 indie game. But it's seriously fucked up since all the info is in there. Even NDA documents from Sony.
The person's #2 point is completely false. It was uploaded to a remote mirror from the start. The person's evidence is bullshit. The person's accusation is stupid. The conspiracy theory angle is asinine.
I haven't been able to keep up with the entire thread but is there a way to get some verification from mods? My head is spinning with some are saying there's malware and porn in the files and others saying actual NDA and other sensitive information were inside.
The 'problem' is the community reaction, the problem was evident to anyone reading through thousands and thousands of posts full of rage and conspiracy theories and just plain meanness to an extent I used to think only happened in tiny corners of the internet, but I am now seeing on the most mainstream of gaming discussion sites.
Numerous posters in this thread have verified the files contain many private documents like NDAs.
That was all you had to say in that particular post. All the rest that you added is pretty much totally unnecessary. The more people try to shame others into not looking at something, the more they are usually motivated to look at it.The person's #2 point is completely false: It was uploaded to a remote mirror from the start.
WHY WOULD YOU BOTHER LEAKING YOUR OWN INFORMATION TO SELL POLYTRON. IF HE WANTED TO SELL THE COMPANY HE COULD JUST SHOW INTERESTED PARTIES HIS INFORMATION WITHOUT LEAKING HIS PAYPAL AND PERSONAL SHIT TO THE REST OF THE INTERNET.
NO ONE WANTS TO BE DOXED. PERHAPS ACCEPT THAT FOR ONCE FISH ISN'T THE BIGGEST CUNT INVOLVED?
Gotcha. Don't need anyone to quote me anymore though, it's embarrassing. The person's #2 point is completely false: It was uploaded to a remote mirror from the start.
The person's evidence is bullshit.
The person's accusation is stupid.
The person is actively trying to mislead you.
The conspiracy theory angle is asinine.
People who publicly consider that it may be plausible need to stop and think about why they are publicly debasing their own intelligence.
I dunno. I kinda understand Fish's attitude, even if it's a bit extreme.
I used to run a videogame forum, much like NeoGAF, and gamers can be some of the worst fucking people. I can only imagine the kind of shit he gets from them.
I'm pretty sure Jason said that they haven't published a piece because they haven't been able to contact the relevant parties.
This is interesting. If the hack did originate from within Polytron, and assuming there's some central location for the company, then the access to Phil's Dropbox (possibly accessible to other members of the dev team, or at least login cookies cached on Fish's computer) seems possible, as well as having access to a server with such volatile documents. Those kinds of things are what you'd want offsite, with multiple copies backed up on external drives. Same with accessing the Polytron Twitter account, on the off-chance it was cached on one of the work machines.I read a detailed analysis showing that the "dox files" were originally zipped on a FAT32 filesystem about 5 hours before the attack. Pretty much no one uses FAT32 for their main storage or operating system, let alone a server. This means that the files likely originated from a USB flashdrive, meaning someone probably had local access to the files.
There are shitty people everywhere and there always has been. There are also great people everywhere. It is true that anonymity makes people less filtered but it doesn't change who they are inside it just allows them to express it more freely as opposed to behind peoples backs like in the real world.
Are we sure this isn't a publicity stunt? Has anyone actually confirmed or seen the alleged data that was leaked?

So prove them wrong. Prove everyone wrong that's claiming the games industry as a whole is a pile of garbage. Go to Twitter, tumblr, email someone. Say something nice. Say something positive. Don't post on a forum about how unfair it is. We know not all of us are manchildren.
Seriously. It takes 5 minutes and it could make a huge difference to someone. Reach out and just... Be kind. If the minority is being loud and communicating the wrong message, the majority should step up and be louder.

Data was definitely leaked, nobody knows if all the data in it is misinformation or real. The hacker could have added shit to make it seem like he did more then he did(in reality he could be a script kiddy). Right now we dont know much and the rumors are everywhere right now. Best thing to do at this point is wait. I personally was not willing to touch the link, because I didnt trust what was in it. Now I kinda wish I did, just so I could confirm stuff. There is nothing right now that points to Phil(or anyone) as the hacker, just a whole lot of unknown.
So, 1password used to sync passwords through Dropbox, and seeing that Zoe's Dropbox was hacked the is likely how it all happened.
They accessed his Dropbox, which may have had an old database, and it got passwords to servers and accounts that haven't had their passwords changed.
The only reason I assume it was an old password database is that if it had his personal Twitter password, it was an old one, and the Polytron one probably stayed the same all this time for business reasons.
That or the password database was strictly a company one.
1password also creates vcards for Social Security Numbers, Bank Accounts, WiFi Passwords and Driver Licenses.
...he...he's fucking with you.I just want to point out how ridiculous it is that he thinks that cancelling his own projects is like some sort of punishment to people (projects nobody was aware of or could possibly care about). This happened before he was hacked.
the fire that's fuelling these theories are the claims against Quinn lying about getting "doxxed" (god I fucking hate that word)
it's just one big ball of shit, and it seems like there isn't any evidence buried inside to make sense of this shitball either
...he...he's fucking with you.
And now he's not putting his game on Steam. Take that, gamers.
Oh no, sounds like a huge loss to the community. And now he's not putting his game on Steam. Take that, gamers.
