[PR] Top Spin goes PS2

2K Sports Steps Onto The Court With Top Spin

New York, NY - May 6, 2005 - 2K Sports, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that it will be releasing the number one rated* tennis game, Top Spin, on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Developed by PAM Development and produced by Indie Built, a 2K Sports development studio, Top Spin for PlayStation 2 will be available this summer.

"The release of Top Spin on the PlayStation®2 gives a broader audience access to a great game, with some fantastic additions," said Steve ZoBell, president of Indie Built, Inc. "We're very excited to bring this critically acclaimed and extremely popular tennis game to PlayStation®2 owners."

Top Spin takes 16 of the top professional tennis players in the world including Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer, Venus Williams and Carlos Moya and puts them in gamers' hands to create the most realistic tennis game ever. Players must work their way up from an unranked amateur with no skills, to a top ranked player in the world with huge endorsement deals. Top Spin further pushes the edge of competition as the only PlayStation®2 tennis game playable online.

Top Spin but with longer load times? Ouch.
I you think load times on consoles are bad, you should play the PC version of TopSpin. At times I swear I was about to hit my monitor for all the stupid 10-15 second pauses after EVERY point.

Anyway, it'll be nice to have PS2 online tennis finally, even though I would prefer a better game to go online myself :( And I'd like it even better if it was on PSP.

This coming from the guy who pimped Fable for six months.
He's only mentioning that Top Spin on Xbox had horrible loading times. Hopefully PAM took the time to optimize them this time, because it was *really* annoying.

When are 2k Sports going to annouce some PSP games? I need some NHL 2k6 action on the PSP. Top Spin would be cool too.

Please troll better in the future. Come on now.. put some effort in to it.

Wasnt trying to troll, top spin has horrible loading times on Xbox (especially capaign, loading between every match (jncluding between losses) and to get back to world map). If standards hold true, it will be even worse on PS2.

Shame because the tennis itself is unparalled.

Blimblim, are MS still working with PAM??

Top Spin is one of the best tennis games i've played. imo TS>>VT
PAM developed Top Spin for Indie Games, not MS directly. Indie Games had been bought by Take Two, along with the Top Spin brand (and Amped/Links of course).
Of course PAM could still work with MS directly on something else, but I really doubt it will ever happen.

And I'd like it even better if it was on PSP.
Me too :( It seems like I really can't be arsed to dedicate 'standard' gaming time to pick up and play games of this kind anymore. It really has to be the genre that I love to death (like shooters) for me to actually decide to sit down in front of the TV and play it. Same reason why I have and play NBA Street on PSP but never could bring myself to buy it on consoles.

Game is excellent but risk shots are totally broken.
Agreed. I hope they fix that. I sold the game after one week because the risk shots pissed me off. It wasnt tennis anymore, more like ultra fast game of Pong. Or maybe I just sucked...heh.

Not if HDloader has anything to say about it ;)

Hdloader likely won't help...I believe Topspin loaded the same way that Leisure Suit Larry did. Set to a certain time per load to avoid desyncs online. If they had to extend it in anyway....

Where is a new virtua tennis Sega, FOR GODS SAKE DO SOMETHING RIGHT FOR ONCE!

/rant

top spin is a good game tho...

Agreed. And put it on a console with 4 players [withoug multitap] for gods sake!

not this again...
While I think framerate has nothing to do with it, I think SC2 is better as a tennis game also - IMO TopSpin gameplay model is flawed at its core.
That said I'll still get PS2 version if it's released around my parts. :)

Well I like the tennis genre a lot (will try just about anything I can get my hands on) but I've been wanting a new good portable tennis game for a long time now. I've played Mario Tennis to death on GBA (the GBC version) and every other GBA tennis I tried was so horribly bad that I couldn't take it for more then 5 minutes.

I hope this port is done better than the Virtua Tennis port. I loved that game on the Dreamcast, but the port was a mess.

What was wrong with the port? The only difference I noticed was that the loadtimes on the ps2 were twice as fast.
