Isn't the perfect response to idiocy like this to point out how much training those guys have been through in proper weapons handling and screened thoroughly before being let that close to the President?

most of those dudes probably got fired for the columbian hooker gangbang plan scandal, gun wont help if your balls deep and high on coke.

Have you seen our congress lately? Realistically, it wouldn't pass. The best thing to do is vote for politicians that want this. That means voting in elections every year instead of every 4 years.

2020, every progressive person in this country needs to put their time and money on the table for that election at every level of governance.

It's incredibly frustrating to talk politics with my friends and family. A good portion don't vote. Don't believe in voting. Another portion will just vote in the general and just for whoever is out there with a good name recognition. They don't vote on non presidential years. They are all very ignorant. Some don't even know that the president can't just come out and create laws based on his policies. Some don't know how important it is to vote on non presidential elections.

I can't even blame them for not wanting to talk about it with me because I used to be just like that as well. Complaining about this, whining about that. Not voting, not following anything because I thought my vote and voice didn't count.

It's bittersweet being more political because it gets to me when people have the weirdest most nonsensical argument ever and when people don't care at all and still complain about stuff.

That's most people. If it was cool to follow politics, shape the country, and meld the world into something most people would want... You'd eliminate most of the bullshit. A lot of the gop rhetoric would become a distant joke never truly considered

Seriously I mean. How could anyone listen to obamas speech and not be in general agreement. The gun violence statistics in the U.S., the data that shows strict rules working in other countries, the idea that we should limit guns to trusted individuals that pass all the checks, the general desire to lower gun violence

This reminds me when people were arguing against the idea of people getting easier access to healthcare. It be like objecting to the concept of fireman putting out fires. How can there be an opposing argument. Who disagrees with this shit?

Yet people do. Somehow

Well, seeing how many people and organizations would love to see him dead, I would assume that tight, armed security is a necessity for his protection. Can't say the same about the average person, unless you're a very special snowflake.

And also, Obama has never said that he wants to take your guns away, he just wants more reasonable, comprehensive laws that could help prevent mass shootings from happening multiple times in one year.

So basically it's called being rational.

And 9.3% of all presidents have been assassinated. Pretty much all of them face assassination attempts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_assassination_attempts_and_plots

Holy shit at the dozens of videos about Sandy Hook being "staged" and a hoax. of course all the "proofs" and theories in those videos are total bullshit.
I mean, WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with people to even think the Obama Admin would set up something like this???

how can you stage 20+ dead children?? how?

smh
I'm at a loss for words, really

That's what's amazing to me and not much surprises me anymore. You have Obama in the OP's speech and what he's said previously. He doesn't want an amnesty. He doesn't want a public ban. He doesn't want to touch the precious Second Amendment. He's talking about changing the process and tracking for people who do want to acquire and own a gun...it does not make sense that this is objectionable to. In my country it would scare the absolute shit out of me if everyone who wanted a gun could get one. Easily. With minimal checks or tracking.

You want the Right to bear Arms? Carry the goddamn collective responsibility America.

The Second Amendment in this cartoon is highlighting a gun as part of the solution in response to a person with a gun which is presenting a problem.

If people view this cartoon as justification of being able to get guns freely and easily, words fail me.

So the crazy person missed everyone, and the woman shot him and the bullet is still traveling...to hit that woman.

Interesting.

What's ironic about that comic is how casual everyone looks about the situation. Lady with the purse is a cold blooded killer.

I don't get how this is relevant, guns have been around in abundance and this response hardly happens, right? It would seem more people would have mace or tasers at hand than guns.

Christians have been persecuted since Jesus's birth, it's sad that we are persecuted socially and physically still, especially outside the US. We have to hold strong and stand up for our beliefs! If you do denounce God, you'll still go to Heaven, as you've made that choice when you first became a Christian. I really look up to all that make that choice.

As awareness for mental illness increases, I hope the government can somehow step forward speak on these issues, especially with accessing guns through the internet, I'm sure they will still be prevalent in the black market, but it will put a damper on things if an average joe who's mentally challenged wants a gun.

Christians are the fucking majority. Where was their god when the shooter killed all those people? I can't be the only one tired of living in an industrialized society filled with people believing in old age ideas.

Anyway, we need stricter laws/regulation. Even some bans. Pro gun nuts say that bans and laws wont keep the bad guys from getting guns, but they fail to realize that it would make it harder. Prices for guns in the black would increase and thus make it harder to obtain.

People need to understand the rampant Rambo fantasy that many of those arguing against gun laws possess. The guys who "stood guard" outside the recruiting centres were just dying for someone "dangerous" to walk by so they could double tap like they do at the range and be a hero.

They want to be there at the next mass shooting with their Kimber Scout and backup Glock and their active shooter go bag and tac vest because joining Special Forces interfered with their being fat and lazy time.

Has it EVER happened? Has a random gun-owner ever stopped a shooting by killing the shooter? I can only recall some case where a concealed-carry guy drew his gun on a shooter, and was then shot in the back of the head by the shooter's accomplice.

I can only imagine how frustrated and powerless he must feel at this point.
I wonder if americans realize how unreal this whole situation seems for people observing it from outside.

I'm all for stricter gun controls as any rational individual should be.

But I am utterly shocked in reading about this troubled person in Oregon who everyone knew had problems socially, mentally, and had been given special care for his mental issues, and yet NOBODY including his own mother thought it was a bad idea to let him have access to multiple firearms and take a interest in guns and shooting?

The mother or anyone with authority over him should have gotten rid of the guns years ago and had him talking with a shrink weekly to work these issues out.

Thats like knowing your house is burning and not calling the fire department.

You can't blame God for what happens to humanity; this is a direct result of hatred entering in this world. Please don't confuse earth as being at all heavenly. It's a cruel world we live in, and a careless god isn't the result for our own actions.

This "new age" movement isn't new, it's actually older than the Christianity. Satan dropped down from Heaven for thinking he's superior to God. Now he dwells here on earth in the sinful nature of all of our own lives.

BTW, Christians aren't the majority of the worlds population.

On subject, it's very sad what's happening nowadays.

How about gun control for dummies, where in the second picture the 'crazy person' just doesn't have the gun?

The lunatics just don't understand.

They don't get it, the problem is that we have guns readily available for shits and giggles. No real reason for the most part...

It's a delusional hero fantasy. Just last Sunday in Texas, a carjacking victim was shot accidentally in the head by a witness who was trying to shoot at the carjackers.
Houston police responded to a shooting call around 11:15 p.m. Saturday at a Valero gas station on Jensen Drive at Reid Street in north Houston. Officials say two men jumped another man in the gas station parking lot and took the victim's Chevrolet pickup truck. Police say a witness then pulled out a gun and began shooting at the suspects, accidentally hitting the carjacking victim in the head.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition. Police say the witness who shot at the suspects picked up shell casings and left the scene. Police found the stolen pickup truck about a mile down the road but are still searching for the suspects.

Does anyone have stats that present a negative correlation between gun control laws and gun violence? I keep getting in debates with a guy who insists that stricter gun control laws have no such correlation, and he cites various countries without such laws where gun violence is minimal, and I'm not sure how to respond.

Oh good only one civilian gets shot in the head.
Pretty much this lol, the comic is trying to say that people having access to guns saves lives.. but they wouldn't be in that position anyway if crazy people didn't have access to guns.

They are basically trying to make it about damage control rather than trying to fix the root problem.

As someone outside the US that speech was incredible and moving.

I really feel for the people who have suffered due to these (lack of) gun laws, Obama, and the sane people of America.

Don't expect to convince the guy, however. He'll probably shift to calling you a liberal or something...

Sure, you're a rational person, not like these. No faith based ideology in this pure cartesian brain.

Here's the oldie by Epicurus: "Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

And yes, it is sad, but I honestly don't know why you brought up Christians or Christianity when this thread had nothing to do with it.

That's actually really good, thanks!

Edit: Actually upon further research, it's not :-/ The countries with the most gun deaths seem to have fairly strict gun control laws.

Where are you getting that from?

Google searching and skimming the first few results. I did it with the biggest four in the chart.

If you have different info then please link me to it.

Ah yes, the scientific method of googling something and skimming headlines.

Evaluate every piece of evidence on it's own merits. There's so much complete bullshit out there.

Weird, the top four except for Jamaica have all been embroiled in various civil wars and states of civil unrest within the last 50 years. (Though I don't know what's up with Jamaica).

Yeah...I guess that nuance is why it's really difficult to discuss this stuff meaningfully in a Facebook thread. Im just not used to avoiding arguments because I'm usually better equipped to argue my points than I am with this issue. Oh well.

This whole situation baffles me. As an outsider looking in it just seems absolutely crazy that this is still an issue. This in many ways is why I think the lack of any sort of real patriotism in Britain is actually a good thing as it helps us progress and abandon old laws however "fundamental" they may have been without losing some false sense of pride. This isn't about being liberal or conservative, this is about being rational and again, from an outsiders perspective, it seems crazy to me that the irrational are some how winning this fight. Obviously there is a lot more going on, but even so this just seems crazy.

+1 respect to Obama

From an outside perspective, it's insanity that you guys just don't fucking ban guns.

And yes I've read the reasons, and it makes sense, but fuck it's sad.

Are you seriously comparing the US to third world countries on the matter of gun control ?

There's no debate that tighter gun control laws result in a steep decline in gun deaths. Look at every other western country. The data backs it, experience backs it, every european/australian/canadian person on this site keeps telling you the same thing over and over but nah some people just refuse to see it. They prefer to talk about war-torn countries who have seemingly strict gun laws to prove their point ... What a joke.
