Pressing "NO TIP" when paying your barber is one of the most awkward interactions

When I remember that tipping is still a thing despite being extremely anti consumer than I remember how Americans like to screw themselves over.

I walk into a club and pay the price that was asked of me and now I have to fork over extra because of some kind of extortion scam. When I'm back home in the city my Barber cuts my shit for 10. Imagine letting people shame you into wasting more money. Fuck imagine a server or barber fucking with someone's food for not giving them more than the asking price.

People aren't supposed to baby you because your boss is scamming you. It's not even a matter of being stingy. I give bums money whenever I can but fuck this tipping shit. If you want me to pay more than raise the asking price and I'll be prepared to pay for it every time but I'm not participating in this tipping percentage shit.

American tipping culture continues to amaze and surprise me.
Tipping your barber. I've never done that and not even once considered it. I'm very glad it's totally not a thing there. It's funny how different our worlds can be.
Also funny how hostile and angry people can get over this.

Seriously, sounding like a damn near cult.

I worked in the food industry for YEARS and never saw anyone do anything like that once, despite how shit we were treated by customers.

But. When you take your selfish stand, you are fucking with someones food. You are fucking with their ability to put food on the table.

Thats cool tho. "Got Mine" is very chic these days.

LMAO.

What are you talking about? I haven't seen or heard of anyone fucking with anyone's shit because they didn't give them a tip. Bruh you don't know what's actually going on here. Relax lol.

I agree with you. The stuff people seem to be making up in this thread is ridiculous.

How is someone gonna mess with your food when you pay AFTER? Are they just taking a guess you aren't gonna tip and decide to mess with your food?

Foreigners on this site love making a big deal about tipping. You give your barber a few extra bucks and never think about it again.

This tipping thing is something most people who aren't from America won't get. I'm seeing some ridiculous things from foreigners said here.

Like fucking up someone's food because they didn't get a tip, how is that even possible lmao?

Yall are WILDING right now.

As someone who lives in a non tipping culture country, let me tell you america, you're missing out.

Erm, I don't know about this. I've travelled abroad plenty and the one thing I notice, is, that servers that don't make tips have very little interest in serving you. I've been to Italy plenty of times and the service can be pretty hit or miss. Heck, I remember one time ordering gelato that the server actually looked at her wrist watched and tapped it, to indicate that I was taking too long. Fuck. That. I pay for good service via a tip and I've made the day of lots of young, hard working college students from giving out a fat tip *heh*.

everybody becomes a second rate economist in tipping arguments. WHY DON'T THEY JUST RAISE PRICES?? because that's not their decision numbnuts. it's about being a decent person in that moment, not applying cold logic to everything you do.

Tip:
my barber
restaurant waiter

Don't tip:
anyone else
especially the people making my burrito and doing nothing else, seriously why are they asking for tips

<American

"X should charge Y if that's the actual cost of Z."

I can agree with that. Logically, it makes sense. I love it when I don't have to think about tip in other countries. That said, that's not how the system works here. Stiffing professionals who largely depend on tips is just victimizing someone who has no control over the system. Add 15-20% when you see the cost of service in a profession that is largely tip based and tip accordingly, if you can't afford it then you can't afford the service. Stiffing someone on a general no-tipping principle means you're a fucking asshole.

I can count on one finger how many times I've stiffed a waitress, and you better believe she deserved it.

.

Easy advice:

If you feel embarrassed and or ashamed, there's probably a reason for it. If you actually felt morally righteous not tipping, you wouldn't feel guilty in the slightest.

blamespace for president 2017

Fuck tips, if you want me to pay for the service include it on the bill.
It's like you've never interacted with the service industry as an adult in American society or you're an entirely unfeeling android who's giving the stiffy to people paid peanuts, congrats, fuck the working person you showed that business.

It's just a flailing justification for being greedy.

I'm from America and don't understand it. I worked hard to earn what I do now. Why am I being shamed into paying someones bills?

i couldn't imagine caring about a few bucks that much. cut your own fucking hair.

like someone else said, if you feel like an asshole leaving because you didn't tip, well...

That's why jesus invented tripadvisor, fam.

Thread reminded me I need to call and schedule a hair cut for next week.

Anyway, I always tip after a haircut, when food is delivered, and to a waiter. It's not something I ever gave a second thought to. Though, I do wish the place that cut my hair made it as easy as swiping my card and hitting a percentage.

Lol piss off. I'm responding to comments about vindictive waiters and barbers attempting to give poor service that may or may not (They are) in this thread.

Also lol at a "selfish stand"? Bro I'm tired of servers complaining that the customer isn't going above and beyond to make up some waiter's salary. I pay for a service and you're expecting others actually pay your actual salary?

I didn't employ you. You're confused if you think this is an "I got mine" situation as opposed to a "I guilt trip customers with pathos arguments while my Boss continues to fuck me over".

At the end of the day I'm already paying. I'm not dining and dashing, I'm not skipping out on my Barber, I'm paying the actual price listed. Why am I expected to provide charity for someone who should be getting paid a decent wage.

There are so many other charity cases I'd rather donate to than someone who's just fine with fucking themselves over

You guys should implement some "service charge" or fee for restaurants and barbers. I've encountered that alot during my trip in Italy. It would prevent confusion and would be much more formal. Way I see it, current "policy" is good enough, but in the case the customer doesn't leave a tip (he does not have to leave), he is unnecesarily seen as rude.

You just said

I'm also in the fuck tips boat. It's an unacceptable standard. I shouldn't have to feel shame because I can only afford my meal and not your bills too. Rock on op.

Bruh, if you can barely afford your own food I think that's enough reason to not feel shame. If I can barely afford mine and I can't afford a tip, I'm not going to feel bad at all because I, along with the server, aren't doing great in our situations. The issue is feeling shame if you have enough to tip them. The key here is that you feel shamed for doing it, you feel bad.

Regardless if you give someone a tip, at the end of the day you feel bad about it. That needs to be the bigger talking point.

All I learned from this thread is that some of EuroGAF are cheapskates.

The worst type of tipping is when they ring you up. They literally just took your order, and they want you to tip. So stupid.

Yeah, that's the only type I don't tip. Waiters, barbers, people providing a genuine service to me, I'll tip as well as I can. When I'm just picking up takeout, and that tip option comes up on the screen? That's a bridge too far for me.

I was in a Red Robbin last night and the machine they used to tip started at a heinous 20%. This is at a place where you have to press a button to get service. We never even got fry refills in a timely fashion. I tell my wife the 15% amount because she's the tipper of the family but I was paying so I didn't want to go to low. She was actually happy with just going with 10%. I start swiping and it has the longest scroll ever. It's like scrolling through mud. A person would assume that the smallest integer would be 1 cent, but it still felt slower than that. I tipped about 4 bucks, which put the bill like a few cents short of $40. So I wasn't even rounding up to give it a round number. Is it money thrown in the trash? Yep, but I do it to make my wife happy.

Overall an awful experience. That turkey burger was on point though.

It's the system that's in place. How about don't eat at sit down restaurants if you don't want to participate?

I go to a chain hair salon and I tip $4 every time

It's not a ton, but we get $4 off with a student discount, and I'm more than happy to pay the original price and pay a decent tip

That said, I'd tip anyways. Sure they're getting paid for it, but they're usually pretty nice people and they do a great job every time so I like giving something extra since there no reason I can't afford to

I do know how you feel though, some places use that interface for normal cashiers and idk if im supposed to feel like a douche

I've been to Italy plenty of times and the service can be pretty hit or miss.

It's part of the european charm, parisian "garçons de café" can be rude too... If it's a hit : tip, if it's a miss : no tip

And I just tipped my delivery guy, I checked afterwards and he got 22,4%. Reasons :
- I had a 30% discount
- Weather is bad
- He was fast
- The elevator is out of order

Can I have a green card now ?

And?

You're asking people to give servers more money solely because their boss doesn't in the US of fucking A of all country. Third world logic is the reason why this country is in such shambles all the time.

And yeah I'd rather donate to a bum then a waiter. I live near 2 hospitals and iirc a homeless shelter and I always give those guys my spare change because I actually feel bad for them.

I don't feel bad for waiters. You already have a fucking job and you're getting jipped by your boss so your solution is to guilt trip customers and ask them for more money? Yeah no piss off

People aren't cheapskates for not shelling out extra because you get shat on by your boss in what is supposed to be a legitimate job.

I'd sooner tip the sweatshop workers who make my clothes than a server. I can keep going, if they want a better wage complain.

In this very thread people kept saying "I bet your hair looks like ass, OP", "Your barber is fucking you up and you don't even know about it", yet people still claim this shit doesn't happen. If it actually doesn't then you are encouraging it.

22.4% on the original price, or the price after discount?

How about you complain to your boss to raise your wage and stop jipping you if you don't want to rely on the good will of other people

I can afford the food that I'm primarily asking for. I don't need to pay your salary. I'll go to a restaurant and not tip you and I want to see what the server is going to do about it.

Wow, what a classless asshole you are.

I always tip when I get my ears lowered. Fuck them begging for it though by shoving it in your face. I hope we never adopt this Americanism.
