Pretty in-depth psp review...

As much as I hate the scratch friendly screen and the rather lacking dashboard the whole system is the best piece of consumer electronics I've seen in years. I'll be very surprised if PSP doesn't become the new ipod. It is just wonderful.

In the article at the botton it said: £180 (TBC) = To be confirmed. Just speculation on the price.

You mean, to be announced? ;)
Seriously though, in the article it seemed like it wasn't much of a speculation, since he said straight out it would cost £180. But we'll see...

I agree with him though. £180 would still be great.
I hope there's no great amount of bitching if thats the case.

I've seen people actually hoping it'll cost no more than £99, like DS, or that Sony will go as close to that number as possible. It has a 4 inch high-resolution screen, a proprietary UMD media drive with moving parts, WiFi and Memory Stick capability - as well as all the technical power under the hood that powers the games. Let's be realistic.

At the very least we know its >> £100.

£150-£180 is exactly what I expect. And I'll still buy one.

Since the price includes VAT, before tax it's around $265. Isn't a 32% increase over the US price just business as usual in Europe?

damnit, this article makes me want one now. I thought I could get by without getting a PSP at launch and hold off until the holidays or something, but that doesn't seem like it's gonna happen :(

the PSP is just too damn sexy. And a part of me hates Sony. So torn.

You fools PSP will be cheap. DS cant really compete. Thw write up is quite fanboyish however like most PSP write ups.

PSP will probably take Europe with less resistance from Nintendo.

Agreed. As a game console it has no problems. GBA hasnt got the same appeal here. DS certainly wont do much. Preorders for PSP are already much much larger.

If Sony manages to put a reasonable price on the PSP they will surpass Nintendo without breaking a sweat. This generation is going to be crucial for the handheld market, Nintendo must play its cards very carefully if they don't want to end with another N64, if they allow Sony to lift off they are fucked.

I was trying to explain to my girlfriend why I needed to take the day off of work to get my PSP.

She doesn't understand.

If she's anything like the folk I'm surrounded by, she'll be instantly captivated by its sheer awesomness and require one of her own.

Hearing the girlfriend say "Wow, that really was worth importing" is probably my victory of the year.

Yeah, my wife was initially complaining that I'm importing it from Japan (what if it's broken?, etc.) and now she's complaining that I'm taking it to work with me, so she doesn't have any time to play - and wants me to get one for her when it launches here (which I'll gladly do, of course :)

I have a feeling that the PSP's sheer awesomeness results in this and not any prior stance...the only ones who can refuse the PSP's grace are those who never knew of it and shelter themselves by playing their DS without ever laying eyes on the PSP. For once a living soul is ensnared by the PSP's aura they are never the same.

i more i read stuff like this, the more i'm convinced that when psp comes out in north america, the hype is going to be un-frickin-believably huge. i have a feeling it's gonna be just like the ps2 launch here -- people camping out in front of stores overnight, huge-ass lines forming hours before stores open, tons of excitement, etc. i'm taking off work the day it comes out. for me, it will be just like a holiday.

Nintendo has to bring it with the Game Boy Next.

Between the Game Boy Next and Nintendo DS I think they can still outsell what Sony will with the PSP and thus control a majority of the handheld market.

But if they wait too long or GB Next is seen as underwhelming, they could be in trouble. PSP is going to beat DS in 2004 though IMO, though I think DS will keep pace.

I'm in the same boat... I have a pretty high distaste towards Sony, but I won't be able to resist one of these. The gadget freak in me will certainly take over my free will.
