Price of humanities courses in Australian universities to double

Cunth

Fingerlickin' Good!
The cost of studying humanities at university is set to double, but "job-relevant" course fees will be slashed under an overhaul of tertiary education to be announced by the Federal Government today.

Humanities labelled not job relevant. I lold

Subjects in nursing, psychology, English, languages, teaching, agriculture, maths, science, health, environmental science and architecture will be cheaper. The Government will increase its contribution to the cost of these classes, so students can expect to pay between $3,700 and $7,700 per year.
For humanities courses, fees will more than double, putting them alongside law and commerce in the highest price band of $14,500 a year.

Assuming nobody read the OP considering it said English would be 46pc cheaper.

That said, seems like a smart decision to push students towards jobs that'll benefit themselves and society more.

One of the very few things the brazilian government is doing that I agree with is prioritizing scholarships for science and health degrees over those for humanities. And of course there are people complaining. I don't understand how can someone try to argue that a philosophy degree should be considered as important as a medical degree, for instance. And this is coming from someone who is currently getting a PHD in Philosophy.

I remember reading somewhere that universities in USA subsidize the cost of STEM courses by increasing the cost of humanities and art.

I guess the logic is that STEM fields are too expensive but at the same time too important so you want to be as accessible as possible, humanities is the extreme opposite so you want to be expensive so only people that already have money go there,

We could do with less HR and lawyer types while increasing our investment in more farmers, scientific developments and business entrepreneurs. Kudos.
