I just bought a laptop from a friend, and while trying to play a DVD i kept getting a message prompting me to upgrade to IE 4.0.1 or some shit. I upgraded to IE6, but i keep getting the same message. Anyone ever had this happen to them?

I made Firefox my default browser, could that be it?

What DVD player software are you using? It sounds like it's something really old, which doesn't understand that IE6 is a suitable replacement for IE4. As Hooker suggested it might be worth trying a different player, such as an up-to-date version of PowerDVD.

Thanks, but it seems as if the DVDs i tried playing (Monster's Inc & LOTR:ROTK) come with a player called InterActual which launches itself as the default player. This is the culprit, as even PowerDVD fails to launch the titles when loaded.

Uninstall that IA player and load the DVD again, when it asks you to install that piece of crap just deny it.

The onyl reason why you would want to use that AI player is for tha dditional content, which could be compared to flash games like on newground. Nothing special

InterActual player is such a piece of junk, as has already been mentioned you would only need it if you want to access the so-called "DVD-ROM" features of a DVD (and even then you could probably get at them via some alternate method). Glad to hear that you got rid of it and got the DVD working.
