Problems adjusting to other forums Gaffers?

I've found that posting on most other messageboards requires a pretty drastic mental shift on my part. All of the ones that aren't as combatative anyway.

I had to tread really carefully to not offend anybody on the console forum on gonegold.com back when they were active, and hell my first post on the IGN Underground nearly got me bannded (I had a grand total of like 4 posts on that place). Lately I dropped by the official Jade Empire board and called the box art hideous and someone actually chided me for not giving 'constructive' criticism; Of course I went back to specifically explain why the boxart was such crap but then no one responded.

Also all of the gaming forums that segregate discussions by console or company are really really boring.

I mainly have to get used to the slow pacing of most other boards. This one moves quickly enough that I can usually hit refresh every few minutes and have something new going on, whereas some boards won't even get a thread bumped for ten minutes, let alone anything new posted.

It's pretty much the same anywhere for me... I read more than I post, and usually only post in threads of interest, or ones that people I know have posted in.

The key to gaming-age is to either fly under the radar, or be so loud and outrageous that they love you for it.

At least that's what I've noticed.

I don't post there, but there's a Labrador Retriever forum I visit and the people there (mostly women) are so sweet, helpful, and supportive of each other that it's quite a culture shock after spending time at GAF.

Yeah, the GAF is like a slow paced chatroom. There's always something happening...

Not to praise this place too much, but I've really never found another place with as much intelligent discussion. Of course, GAF runs the whole gamut from absolutely asinine discussion to idiots pretending to provide insightful comments to thoughtful and insightful commentary. But with that said, most other places I've sampled are just filled with straight-up idiots or teenagers that think they can feign intelligent posts by typing out a ton of text while still saying nothing.

It's more of an issue of adjusting to other forums in general, but that's what lurking's for. i lurked off and on for a couple of years before finally registering here, and it's been a greatly positive experience. i don't have a need, or the time, to register at other, less civil gaming forums. The OT takes care of most of my non-gaming needs, so it's pretty much win-win.

The only adjustment for me in visiting other forums is how f*ckin slow so many of them move compared to here.

I've never had any problem with adjusting to other forums other than Something Awful (where I got probationed for three days for making a joke about Bittorrenting games, which I found odd considering they would openly steal anime and porn on their site) and Deviantart (where conversation is impossible because everyone argues at the drop of a hat, 90% of the topics are complaints, and the mods close topics at a stupid rate for no reason)

I wish the GIA was still open, though. They had some decent conversation and posters there (at least until the Cube was announced and everyone there turned into a frothing Ntard who would dis Xbox screens no matter how good they looked)

GAF is really just so different from most everything else; there was a board that I used to post at years ago, as a kid, and going back there now is just like devolving. I'll occasionally go back and ridicule the people on the Canadian board for being ignorant to major Canadian issues and being annoying, but otherwise I stick to GAF. I lurked for awhile, posted I think one Topic of my own before Neo-GAF (I believe it was the Splinter Cell GameSpot Review Thread) and now just kind of enjoy myself.

What major canadian issues? I'm curious, but considering your tag, I find it kinda unsettling. :lol

The tag comes from someone who was ranting on the bilingual box arts in Canada, so I tore them down and told them to stop disrespecting the great memory of the honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau. I was being sensationalist, and thus was tagged.

The major Canadian issues were stuff like last year's election, etc. Just major events that the kids there gave stupid comments to like "Ugh, who cares about politics?" I yelled at them. It was awesome.

Call I can say is that I have stopped asking questions about video games on any other forum; all the answers are here.

Even when it comes to Mac problems. Given how fanatical Mac folks are, you'd think sites forums dedicated to them are of use? Hells no. Not only do you get an answer here, you get it fast.

Memles is a tireless champion of unheralded junior hockey player Sidney Crosby, and considers his under-exposure in the media a major issue not just for the hockey community but for Canadian society in general.

honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau

No oxymorons dude! :lol

I cried when I saw that Capcom gave in without knowing they had to comply pragmatically with those power-happy commies officers of an organization that is the Office de la langue française, when they released Viewtiful Joe 2, and especially Resident Evil 4, in a bilingual-only cover. I was proud of the good translation, it was much better than Nintendo IMHO. But they didn't have to in the end, the "law" is there but no one enforces it, believe me!. :lol

The movie ratings are in the law in Quebec, so they enforce things. They just mumbled, and in the end of 2003 did a publicity stunt. Basically, they don't do shit, they don't have any control. That, and americans might or might not want to buy my copies of bilingual games that I keep sealed because they contain some of Moliere's. ;)

Oh, and when I read the manual for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for Dreamcast, I cried. They used Babelfish, I swear! :lol Those companies just did a prudent move without knowing what they were doing. But at least some companies did it good.

And as for anything Trudeau-related, I would like to kill some chimeras and be a one-man army, but I don't feel like it. But please send a pm my way and explain to me your point of view, I'm genuinely interested. :)

Shit, yeah, forgot about that.

And while you may not personally like Trudeau, I do have to, in being official, put honourable in front of it.

It's not his fault you guys didn't sign the Charter.

Send a pm before opening a Pandora's. ;)

Humm, Charter, yeah right. Here are some keywords of my toughts:

Mirabel. Stoopid Martial law enforcement for the october crisis in 1970. Paranoia. Ruining our public finances. Being an asshole. Being a prick. Being a sellout to the english and crapping on the french. Oh, how about the unilateral constitution stunt, without Quebec's consent, the "night of long-knieves"? ;)

"Nous vous promettons qu'il va y en avoir du changement, et nous mettons nos sièges EN JEU pour du changement!" *Crowd cheering* (before the referendum of 1980, what an hypocritical dude, yeah changes, fucking right ;)

Affiliations with Bourassa. And Chrétien. And political sympathy capital gain, etc etc, ad nauseam. ;)

He's wise, intelligent, but he's a goddamn prick. :lol

Oh and when I saw that Dorval was renamed to Trudeau international airport instead of Levesque international airport, especially considering the Mirabel fiasco that Trudeau HIMSELF spawned, I nearly choked I swear. That, and when my father came back to canada from Tanzania, when he heard the lady greets him saying: "Welcome to Trudeau international airport" he was unaware of it, he said it was the biggest shock in his life. :lol

The board got my obligatory cheap shot, the PM got my more sensible views.

I also yelled at the kids for saying that the people protesting Bush's visit were defaming all of Canada. Good times.
