True, but the wincentral piece makes a caveat that some games used dynamic res using a system method and those games will be 4k on Scorpio without a patch.Okay there is a misunderstanding ongoing. Dynamic resolution helps unpatched games to benefit from performance improvements on the Xbox Scorpio but they don't support 4K resolution out of the gate, they still need a patch.
It seems like it would require the teeny tiniest input and patch on the part of a dev to unhook the cap limiting the dynamic resolution. Like one value.
I hope we don't have to wait until the end of the week for this.
I mean, if DF has already been provided the details, why sit on it?

Eeeuuuurgh i dunno
This thread made realize Microsoft does not have any exclusive games that can make the Scorpio worth it. I have a Nvidia 1070 and even games like gears of war while maxed out, just look like hires versions of the 360 games. Microsofts needs something on the level of Horizon. A game that basically needs the unique hardware of Scorpio. If it just 4k Forza they are going to have a hard sale.

I'd question if MS has a studio to achieve something like a Horizon or a Uncharted 4. Scorpio's timing is really bad unless they've got some exclusive second party we've never heard of or a ton of Scorpio patches ready for all the third party games coming out. This thread made realize Microsoft does not have any exclusive games that can make the Scorpio worth it. I would hope that "Pro" is completely off the table here. Regardless of how Scorpio actually works, I don't think Microsoft wants people to equate it to PS4 Pro.
I think they should stay as far away from a Pro branding as possible. The system didn't really wow anybody and the reveal was boring.
I think MS wants to excite more people around this console. Both 4K tv owners and early system adopters.

Yeah, but I mean you could have the first method with a variable determined by the system so that variable would return 1080p on xbone and 4k on Scorpio.Dynamic resolution means somewhere in the render pipeline it has to be decided which resolution the next frame(s) has. There are several ways to achieve that.
a) you can define certain trigger points that point to a predefined resolution (no 4K possible)
b) you can retrieve the info of your max output, define trigger points as well and point to a percentage of the max resolution (4K possible)
In other words: it depends on the game and method was used. Dynamic resolution != Dynamic resolution.
The way Windows Central is talking about it it may be possible for games that are UWP and use method b) which are for me Gears4, FH3, HaloWars2 and Recore.
Not forza 7 according to jez

I should ask how many pros did Sony sell over the holidays? The Pro is selling with Sony current projection and in some cases exceeded expectations in terms of new people who didn't own a PS4 buying the system. Something Microsoft has struggled with this generation.
And QA testing for two systems, certification etc. The older the game is the less likely it's going to happen, especially for single player games that have a code base that hasn't been touched for months/years and aren't going to sell many more copies.
It will be a huge win for MS if they did in fact design a system-level dynamic rendering solution that devs have used which allows them to get to 4K without patches. Very curious to see how this plays out, but I remain skeptical

if there was a big unveiling this week, wouldnt they have announced it like weeks ago?
it's not an unveiling it's just gonna be some spec details on DFif there was a big unveiling this week, wouldnt they have announced it like weeks ago?
it is not a big reveal or a console reveal in that sense. Just more information tech wise on the system if reports are to be believed.

I'd say it depends on how they acquired them. If Microsoft reached out to them directly, they don't want to just take the information and run. That's a good way to ruin a relationship.
Rumors point to it being a bit of a final tech unveiling with the potential for in-depth analysis thanks to Digital Foundry. Honestly, I think that's the smart way to go for the technical talk at least. Sony tried to implement that into their Pro reveal and it just... didn't work well. That's not the kind of stuff you want to focus on during a presentation unless you're giving a lecture.

But still, why not mention that news is incoming this week? As for as i saw, no one from MS is even talking about it publicly.
I think it would be awesome if they could forgo all that and just call it an "experimental" opt-in mode in the dashboard the way boost mode is on Ps4 Pro. I'd gladly take a miniscule chance of a render resolution change causing instability over maybe not having the feature because it would require independent QA of every title.
Maybe it isn't big news?
an interview with scorpio team and their ambitions for the hardware and maybe spec talk doesn't deserve a countdown clock in my opinion anyway

If this isn't big news then they should get ahead of it and say so to temper expectations. As it is a lot of people who are specifically in the market to get a pro and also their target audience are getting excited and if it is nothing big it is just going to piss a lot of people off.

Perhaps they (MS) feel this will have more weight if it just hits with no build up.

Gears 4 maxed out at 1080/60 is a gorgeous game. If they can get that running on the Scorpio (very possible) then it will look stunning. Seriously, play Gears 3, which is a good looking game, then go to Gears 4. The difference is huge.
