PS2 Appreciation & Celebration Thread, long live the King!

yeah, found WOTS4 (PAL disc) for $30 and jumped on it.

Samurai Western is so bought, just holding out for $10. WOTS2 didn't click with me when i tried it years ago but after 3 i feel i didn't give it a fair shake.

wait, so which beatmania are you guys saying i should get into then? sounds like X, XIII & XIV, im okay with jpop too.

Either 10 or 13 for now. 15 is more than $100 used, so I'd wait until you know you really like the series to consider that one.

If I had to pick one, it'd be 13.

13 has this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7Zw_mOoaEU

And this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8i2eHNr7sbE

It's also the one I played when I moved from playing level 5 songs to level 9 (which is a huge leap.)

Edit: And if you do end up with 15 eventually, you get to play this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sOYRCXQg0E

Which makes you badass.

These are why 13th is a no brainer for me:
So Fabulous!!
Harmony & Lovely
Broadbanded
Heavenly Sun

Though 10th has the sublime Narcissus At Oasis

I wish I had whatever style had the amazing song where they're playing a board game and the guy goes postal. dj TAKA vs Yoshitaka did it, I think. The videos were the reason I got into IIDX.

Lol, you're clearly more of a Ryu fan than I am.

But yo, Narcissus at Oasis is absolutely one of the best songs in the entire series. It is fantastic.

And If you're referring to Golden Cross, it's in IIDX Gold, and it is another of the best songs in the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCgGubRWY68

Fuck, man, I love these games.

Yep. I need to play that chart eventually. Lion Suki was one of my first exposures to IIDX.
I remember thinking anything with a video like that had to be awesome.

Well, to be fair, the Another charts for the latter two are obscene. I can't even play those. I can play them in Hyper mode, where they're still tough, but at least doable.

I only ever got up to playing 11s (out of 12). I should get back to it one of these days...

Here's most of my collection. Missing a few games that are being borrowed by a friend.

Posted this in the Projects Beast thread but fits here too. The current games thats always by my desk these days.

I definitely need to import Busin 0 Neo eventually.

You better get to it since copies are getting more and more rare by the day and prices are slowly going up.

Unless you dont mind the Atlus collection version.

Granted it hasnt reached stupid price levels yet, its still raising slowly. Even more so if you want one thats in good quality.

Not really, I don't get picky with imports. I got HMH2 for $15 since it was the best version.

I love find awesome games I didn't know about.

saw some ps2 games in a pawn shop, and since I'm currently into F1 racing, Grand Prix Challenge seemed interesting.

I now see it's got quite the pedigree from the devs that made Test Drive Le Mans and looks great running at a solid 60 fps with 22 cars. Some racing games don't even do that now.

Man, PS2 imports are kinda expensive across the board now. There's not a ton of games I still need to get, but they're all pretty pricey. One thing I need to get is Dodonpachi Daioujou, which I'm kicking myself for selling. I pawned it when the 360 version came out, which would've been a good move if they didn't botch that thing with some shitty smoothing filter. I'll keep that release for DOJ Black Label, but the PS2 version is overwhelmingly superior.

It's also amusing to check out what the price is like on the games I was actually smart enough to buy. Hokuto no Ken, for example, is starting to get up there in price. So are the Sega Ages titles, particularly the good ones.

It's probably going to be another 3-4 years before PS2 games start reaching stupid prices, like 32-bit games are starting to, so I figure now's probably a good time to get the more elusive stuff.

I think I might have more imports for PS2 than anything else. The IIDXs, Growlanser IV(I'm even happier I own this due to Atlus USA's butchered localization), Flower Sun & Rain, Castle Shikigami: Seventh Moon Night(the VN), ParaParaParadise(even though I can't start it*..), etc.

*Never gets past a black screen. My best guess is that it requires the controller?

I only ever played the PS1 Kenshin games. They... weren't great. No idea how the PS2 one was.

But you're seriously not missing out by not playing the Berserk game. I remember watching the shit out of that trailer for the game, and being crazy disappointed when I finally played it.

I should probably pick up Over Zenith again. That game was pretty cool, from what I played. The intro song in the trailer is also amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HBa_zDUcmc.

well..the first level is pretty terrible, but i understand it gets better after that, plus i think there was an english fan patch recently!

still, dying to play Kuma Uta one day.

I got like halfway through Berserk. It didn't improve much. But yeah, the first level was awful. You're fighting snowmen or some shit.

I played through the Kenshin PS2 game last summer and was pleasantly surprised. Pretty competent beat-em-up and you get to use Kenshin, Saitou, Sanosuke, and you can unlock Aoshi. It takes place during the Kyoto arc so the setting is awesome and pulling off an Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki during the Shishio fight feels great.

Still wish that we could have gotten the PSP games over here. They were legit.

So, recently I decided to improve my PS2 collection. I went to local auction site in Poland, I searched for some games. And I won this:

Yeah, lot of promo version (some games are rare tbh). But I had hope that those boxed version was normal games. Unfortunately not - only 16 of them aren't promo version. And to be honest I don't know if they're valuable or not.

Placing discs face-down on the floor...

Other than that, it's a nice haul. :)

Photos were straight from auction. But yeah - it was dumb idea by this guy. I cannot took picture by myself 'cause ... I don't have spare room for now and it's in the big box.

^nice!

hey, can anyone find me a PAL copy of Shinobido for a good price? i missed a few on ebay & the sellers aren't responding, can't seem to find them much anywhere else.

I was tempted to buy a copy of Odin Sphere today, but it had no manual and they wanted $35 for it.
My copy of Gauntlet Dark Legacy showed up though, so that's cool.

So a friend gave me his barely used ps2 the other day and I noticed it had a bizarre input near the usb blue rectangle ports that aren't on my other orignal fat model, what exactly is this weird "link" port?

The i.LINK port was originally going to be used for multi-console multiplayer. The port was removed and only a few early games supported it - most later games supported LAN instead.

Man, putting those disks on the floor like that...

Hoping to get my PS2 Slim tomorrow.

Talking about the Slim, has anyone ever had the issue where the vibration doesn't work on it ? I've tried various controllers and it does work on various PS1s and my fat PS2, while on the pad is just limp.

I know there's a capacitor to be replaced on the fat when this happens, but haven't found anything about the slim.

They're pretty great. I played them before I knew anything about Baldur's Gate 1 or 2.
So when I finally started to play Baldur's Gate, I was a little confused.
