PS3 2.0 firmware details posted [confirmed?]

Yeah I think she works/worked on the firmware in some way. Why she wasn't been fired already has now been expained by that pic.

Yeah. I also noticed she puts ™ everywhere is needed :lol

I read her history and she seems to do all the Firmware update topics and they are very neatly put together but all the threads I saw were edited on the actual update release days so no firm proof of her history. Also she talks about Sony from a third person view so while she may have contacts she's probably not an inzidur. A lot of tm's though.

XMB during games will probably be friends list, messages, and the options that are already available (exit game, turn off console, etc) moved under a nice icon in the XMB

and that would be more than enough if you ask me

:)

Thanks for checking that.

That being the case, I don't see much reason to put any stock in this :(

UPNP media streaming. It's open source and there are plenty of servers available.

and sony are a member of DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) and they've shown PC-PSP streaming via UPnP before.

and my router doesn't support it :(

your router doesn't need to support it. You just need UPnP server software runnign on your PC. Like WMP11

That's NOT good enough. All Fox BDs use DTS-HD Master Audio and the PS3 can't decode the lossless stream OR pass its bitstream to a receiver.

The PS3 needs to either get an update to decode the DTS-HD MA internally and send it out as PCM (preferred) or at the very least get an update to pass both DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD bitstreams via HDMI so that an external receiver can decode them.

It would also be nice to get an update to support a 24 FPS viewing mode for the new TVs and projectors coming out that support it. We would then be able to see and hear Blu-Ray movies in their purest form.

An update to play BDs in 720p wouldn't hurt either for those with 720p TVs that either won't accept a 1080i/p signal or suck at scaling.

That's my point. The HD audio options are limited since the Sony isn't taking full advantage of HDMI 1.3 yet.

Heh, indeed. More likely that it's a guy now then and that y ou shouldn't trust anything he write.

Well at least he used a sfw pic as source.

My guess is that they will add suport for Playstation Eye or some other silmilar stuff... Guitars, pads, steering wheels...

Or dare I say it? Rumble. :D :D :D

There needs to be more discussion on the most important update and that being custom backgrounds. Can't wait to start using my anime wallpapers as backgrounds. What size should I resize them for 720p?

Honestly, they could just add that sound normalizer and that would be enough. I can't belive how many time I must have woken up my huge building just scrolling past the cash gun chaos demo, Its ten times louder than anything else.

Shes hot!
I want my own music in games!
Sweet update though!

That's why it's a new incremement rather than a point update.

Well then, I'd be surprised to see us jump up to 2.0 so quickly then ;)

Anyway, fake pictures, fake news, amirite. It's a message board posting, from someone with no verifiable history. That it's coherent seems to be the only thing keeping us discussing this at all, and that seems to be stretching things a bit. Anyone with a reasonable command of English could analyse the style and format of previous updates and whip up something similar.

Didn't we just prove all this wrong? And you agreed? And now we're back to square one?

Seems pretty dang legit to me.

Pretty much anything Sony tries to stop (in this case, deleting posts and such) can pretty much be a conformation. Home leakage anyone? :)

I don't think it's quite that cut-and-dry. It would be in their interests to delete these if they were raising people's expectations beyond what they were due to deliver, for example. Apparently they are deleting this on the UK boards, citing 'misinformation'.

In the case of Home, if there was not the weight of evidence that was there, I wouldn't have viewed Sony's PR response as confirmation one way or another either. But it came in a much broader, and more solid context. Also, in this case people are reporting this without raising the ire of Sony. Sony is only cleaning up on their own boards. Lots of boards will lock or delete threads that report false information..

The one thing this has got going for it is that post-launch, updates seem to have come fairly regularly in the latter half of each month (Dec 21, Feb 28, Mar 23, Apr 19), with the one exception of January. So it seems possible we might see an update (be it 1.8, 1.9, 2.0) this week or next.

I think there is a lot of credence to this. I was thinking they were putting out an update at the end of every month. But, if you look at the dates there (as long as they're correct), Sony has been putting out a firmware update exactly every 4 weeks since February.

BTW, firmware updates have always been on Wednesdays so the last one was March 21st.

Four weeks is the 16th. Wednesday is coming!!!

According to innerbits, the next firmware update is due around the end of May - early June. It's possible it got bumped up to meet Gamers' Day or, that they wanted to talk about the features at the event. I'm not convinced either way yet.

How about the ONE thing nobody is mentioning that would be killer - the PSP "sleep" feature? I would love to be able to just sleep a game, come back in 4 hours and pickup Kratos mid-slash.

I've mentioned it before - would love to see it. But I think it would inevitably lead to debates about power consumption around here, if it ever got implemented ;)

We could have on a leak like a month before the actual update?
Were previous leaks THAT early? hmmm..

I imagine Sony are done working on an update within a month, the rest being various testing and preparations. This can't be a month early, unless there's a smaller update to be released within the next few days.

Folders! did I read that right? I have been copying all my photos to my PS3 since I got it and being able to arrange them in folders will be awsome instead of wadding thru the 500 pics I take every month!

All the other stuff sounds great too, but I am most excited about orginizing my photo folder :lol

What previous firmware leaks? I haven't followed this poster's history, but are we sure that their 'leaks' match the actual changes? Sony have given out details in the past about upcoming firmware changes, but nothing on this scale iirc. For every bit of supporting evidence (like the poster's reputation, that there is a firmware due soon, and that many of the features have already been pre-announced), there are signs that it's fake (unprecedented amount of changes in a firmware, leaks/changelogs never being presented either in SCEA PR or this way, no seconday source or supporting evidence). Going by what Innerbits said about 1.6 and how that changed, it seems that Sony are not adverse to changing their firmware plans either by integrating new features or moving its scheduled release date. So I'm remaining open about the possibility of it being genuine.

Huh, wasn't that a lame rumor debunked by Sony and Dolby Studios ?

edit : http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/05/09/sony-responds-to-rumors-of-the-playstation-3s-audio-limitations/

The only thing that makes me think this is real is the fact that the "SCEA" poster edited the post. I've been to that place before, and they let rampant rumors/speculation run(I assume it draws more traffic). It's very weird that it was edited, and even more weird that it was edited by that name. I'm mildly hopeful, but the update sounds too good to be true.

I agree. (i wasn't trying to make a point with my previous post by the way. I was just asking questions just like that) ;)

.

No other HD disc player supports decoding of DTS-HD MA, or passing the compressed bitstream to a receiver - the use of audio mixing and 'advanced' mode authoring on HDDVD prevents that (and there aren't any receivers yet anyway). You still get the core DTS 1.5Mb/s which sounds great.

And of the different bluray players out there, the PS3 is the best placed to implement full DTS-HD MA support in the future. The codec info was only just released by DTS so give them some time.

It doesn't have to consume any power - the PS3 has a hard drive. Dump all of memory to disk, and restore when you turn back on.
