PS3 2.0 firmware details posted [confirmed?]

I wouldn't look to SCEE for a confirmation/denial of this (if that's what Eurogamer is doing). They most likely don't know either way.

Well SCEA have denounced it as speculation, so I guess the dream is over?

Yeah, since companies are so forthcoming with this stuff. The 360 Elite didn't exist either until a month ago, according to Microsoft.

shockaxis ftw
shocksaxis retains more of the original SIXAXIS name (but seems to verge on speech impediment so maybe not... :lol )

And I wish there was network shares support (as well as nested folder support for all media types).

I doubt a controller redesign with rumble will change the name. SIXAXIS is just way to cool for Sony, they love the fact that it's a palindrome.

Hadn't even noticed until u said that

[Zero Unused Disk Space] has been added as an option under [System Settings] > [Format Utility].

What does this mean?

Is it possible that I will now be able to install Linux without having to format the whole drive?

Some of the listed crap seems a little too mundane or weird to just make up. So I'm saying it's true.

This was never on the press site from what I saw, but then again, they never post firmware updates on there anyway from what I've seen.

Also, there's no farking way they are ever going to list 720p BRD support in the changelog. Like the former PS2 rendering issue, that's just going to be a stealth update for sure.

I really hope you're right because that's one of the biggest issues for me that's not on the list.

You think? That is a pretty big gripe amongst PS3 owners and future owners so I assume BRD 720p support would be a bullet point.

Maybe it needs to be said again since people missed it the first time but:

Sony has released a FW update exactly every 4 weeks on Wednesdays since Feb. 28th. Wednesday is 4 weeks.

Obviously not something to bank on, but it certainly lends a lot of credibility into a "surprise" on Wednesday.

Oh geez. Thanks.

Yay! Six months after launch and still no 720p playback for Blu-ray movies!

Un-
F*cking-
Real.

I won't buy Blu-ray movies unless I can watch them in 720p -- none of this 1080i horsesh*t.

But it's true. SCEE has a long and rich history of not having a clue! :lol
Remember their latest fiasco with the PS3 marketing campaign when they showed clear as day that they didn't know what's the PS3 release date for Europe?

From what I know, PS3 OS and it's updates are done in SCE Japan studio, and they are probably the only ones who know for sure what's going to be in the updates they make.

1080i looks fantastic for me. :/ My TV does a great job upscalling the signal though.

Jim, Are you gonna be there?

I'm with most people and demand that they enable 720p BRD movie playback. Whether by stealth or however the hell they want to do it, it just needs to be done. What were those douchebags thinking when they left this out? This should've been cleared up months ago.

Couldn't make it (too much work/personal stuff going on), but BuddyC is filling in :)
Oh man...im so glad its finally confirmed 100% to be real.
I was thinking "what if there is no gamers day this week...or better yet this month"

Judging by the release history on Sony's US site, this isn't really true:

Dec 21 - Thursday
Feb 28 - Wednesday
Mar 23 - Friday
Apr 19 - Thursday

I think judging by recent updates, an update anywhere in the second half of May seems quite possible if not probable, but there hasn't been any exact pattern.

o The method of selecting an output resolution has been changed in [Video Output Settings] under [Display Settings].

Maybe...

Also, some of the lingo is definitely obscure enough for it to be a Sony PR.

The big backwards compatibility update was in March IIRC, and I downloaded that one on Thursday. The last one came on a Wednesday the 17th.

I did say since Feb. 28th, though and the timing is very convenient. The "official" day will depend on what timezone you are in.

...

Yeah, what exactly does that mean?

Oh, man -- does it mean we'll be able to select a 1366x768 option for those of us who have 1366x768 panels? (No scaling/1:1 pixel mapping through HDMI!)

I know, I know... wishful thinking.

i bet its going to be wednesday!!!

they're probably release more good stuff on Thursday's store update, more ps1 games i tell ya!!!

and hopefully more Home beta invites!

wow...1080i must suck pretty bad on your tv.

Hmm, do people really have bad 1080i bluray expierences? i watched kungfu hustle and it was mindblowing on my tv (720p native, upscaled to 1080i).

agreed.

mines a 1366x768 TV and i have no problems watching Bluray movies on 1080i..games like VT3 run fine aswell.

i would rather sony do the Upscaling for DVD's 1st before worrying about 720P bluray support. Or the possibilty of PS1/2 Upscaling.

http://www.productshub.com/Samsung-...SC-181-Channels-16-9-1366-x-768-Stereo-Sound/

that is my tv.

it's resolution is 1366 x 768

it has 2 hdmi ports, one of which is occupied by my ps3.

1080i looks like utter shit when i watch a blu-ray movie, however motorstorm looks fantastic when i play it in 720p.

am i doing something wrong? a lot of people say that 1080i looks great, but i think all interlaced displays look garbage. maybe the onus is on me, and i'm screwing something up...

your probably doing nothing wrong..

sometimes tv's just don't handle resolutions aswell as other tv's. Maybe the Samsung just don't scale well.

dunno really.

I have a 26" Sharp Aquos...1080i looks fine on my tv..but my tv has a bit of a banding issue that shows up on the XMB...but its pretty much 100% invisible during games and movies.

would be nice if this is all good to go, I could care less about the 720p bluay ( I have a 1080p LCD tv FTW) but everything else is awesome

Either you're watching shitty BD movies, or 1080i is disabled on your PS3's display settings and that is resulting in movies being shown in SD. That TV has a better scaler in it than a majority of 720p-native HDTVs.

i have that TV. Set your PS3 to 720p for games, and when you wanan watch blu-rays go manually in the PS3 and check 1080i.

i only own one blu-ray movie (didn't have that much money after buying the ps3 and wanted to get one game too...) but it's The Prestige. Perhaps the transfer is rubbish?
