PS3 Home Official Thread

So, I created a female avatar the other day. Tuned out quite hot.

Was taking pics of myself in the plaza

when the obvious happened
FotodiPlayStationHome2-6-201002--3.jpg

Upon revealing my real sex they left
FotodiPlayStationHome2-6-201002--1.jpg

but later I'm approached by another user who claimed to be called "SANDRA", to be from SWEDEN and to be looking for friends.

Suuuuure.

"She" was kind enough to pose for some pics tho

FotodiPlayStationHome2-6-201003--5.jpg

We then had a chat. A very long one. "She" was clearly trying to pull an "I'm a guy" on me but I'd never let "her". Checked "her" profile: level 0. Not a single trophy earned. Hmmm...

I kept taking pics cos she was hot (me wearing my Siren costume here. Unlocked by playing the Siren Home game)
FotodiPlayStationHome2-6-201004--2.jpg

"She" starts begging to be my friend, claiming she played FFXIII.

"But you have no trophies" I say
"I can't get past Snow eidolon" she replies.
"But you should have earned trophies before that", I add.
"I'm playing on easy" she clarifies, obviously unaware there is no difficulty setting in FFXIII.

I point that out but she keeps begging me to add her to my friends. I'm rude on her ("Sorry, I dont allow lvl 0s on my friends list") and "she" leaves with no satisfaction.

I know all of this sounds pointless, but I had fun during the whole encounter. It was fascinating in an odd way. :D

I'd like to stalk your avatar in the home square, if you know what I'm saying.

Weird random encounters in Home are always fun. I once saw a Freddy Kruger hanging out in the mall. It was a nearly 1:1 copy of the original, down to the striped sweater and the leather cowboy hat except he had the Wolverine claws instead of the Freddy glove. :lol Stood near the staircase trying to scare off people. Was a really nice guy.

Wow. The loading in Home is much more acceptable than a few months ago. The initial load is seriousl. Quick, and jumping between spaces is quick also. Well done Home crew.

Avatars are still a bitch to load though.
Yeah. Firing up Home nowadays is not much different than firing up most games. Increase the avatar loading speed, and there really is no reason to complain anymore.

You basically summed up the only compelling thing about home... truly weird interactions where traditional social boundaries are meaningless.

if you want to jump into the jump of a crowd of strangers, shout the word 'SLUTS' and then start dancing... you can.

Also... LOL - about 80% of ps3 owners are male... yet home is full of girls? Can't these people do simple math?

It's not just math. I have bumped into quite a few girls in Home and chatted with them. They can be kids (*alarm goes off*), college students, working moms, etc.

Very down to earth and "strong" character (to be able to fend off stalkers and give them a piece of their mind :)). They were there to chill out and make friends.

Yet a vast majority of girls are bound to use home more then males so...

And where did you get that 80% statistic?

I'm not denying there are males dressed as females, there is obvious, but there are many many real females on HOME

I made an avatar and he looks like a hobo wearing rape gloves. :lol

Home is kinda stupid. In my experience.

True, but... maybe it's just me, but the lack of footsteps adds to the lifelessness of Home in a really big way. It doesn't feel like you're in the world at all.
Nitpicking? Yes.

Actually, I think this would be one of those things that would annoy the ever living crap out of me if it were a default option that couldn't be turned off. The idea that at any time I could hear dozens of people running around... everywhere... all the time... would drive me bonkers. Think of it in places like Little Big Planet or ModNation, where people stay still for less than a fraction of a second, and you'll get my meaning. Now, if it's one of those options where it's only for you and can be turned off, that could be cool, depending. I wonder how it would work with the stutter lag you get when you enter a new space and you start moving?

Heh, mine looks like the Unabomber.

I was a huge believer in the idea of it but it hasn't offered me much since the launch of the beta. It's been a while since I've been on so will venture on again.

No, press L2 to slow down and just jump in the same place and do spins. You'll be able to do more jumps/spins therefore, more points.
YOu can slow down? I thought the point was to get down as fast as possible.

Pretty Cool Home update for those who care for Futbol

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010...o-playstation-home-bioshock-2-kekkaishi-more/

This week marks a truly monumental point in the history of PlayStation Home, as one of the world’s biggest sporting events receives a dedicated space. PlayStation Home’s FevaArena – a virtual stadium devoted to the 2010 FIFA World Cup – will serve as the rallying point for soccer (err…futbol!) fans that want to play exclusive games, collect rewards and limited items, and indulge in their affinity for the most widely-viewed sporting event in the world. Start at the FevaShoot mini-game, where you can hone your penalty kick skills and earn points that can be cashed in for special rewards. Then head over to the FevaSimulation Center, and track the simulated progress of your favorite teams throughout the World Cup (and cash in some of those points for exclusive furniture and clothing rewards). Afterwards, you and your friends can hop into the Photo Booth or shop for exclusive virtual items (such as your favorite team’s jersey) from the FEVA Arena’s unique Mall area – all from the comfort of your console.

The FevaArena’s doors will open this Thursday, June 3rd for North American soccer fanatics, but a “Global Lounge” will be introduced on Thursday, June 10th, allowing over 14 million users from 32 countries around the globe to converge in one space to play games together and attend special events. PlayStation Home historians will recognize the FevaArena’s Global Lounge as another first in the platform’s ongoing evolution, informed directly by community feedback gathered from users across all regions of PlayStation Home...

Anyone else having issues downloading the new 1.36 patch?
My PS3 keeps rebooting on the "please wait" screen.
Any suggestions?

before starting the update wait for the hard drive light to stop flashing then press the update button.

Yeah, had that exact problem, what I did was to wait a bit, give it like 1 minute, then press X. Sometimes when you start downloading it right after it comes up, it will reset the PS3 for some reason, that has happen to some games too, dunno why. But just wait a bit and press X to download.

Waiting a couple minutes before pressing X worked. Thanks for the help. :D

Haven't gone on Home in at least 5 months, pretty much forgot it existed until I saw this thread. Is there any reason I should check it out again? Anything cool added?

Bull. Verifying items still takes for fucking ever for me. I can't join a public space or GO TO MY PERSONAL FUCKING SPACE during this loading process, why? What verification does the software need to do to let me be put in a space quickly? The personal space I could somewhat understand, but public spaces should let me be allowed in. The verification should load the avatar items FIRST and then check for whatever while I'm in a space.

In fact, that's one thing that has been an increasing problem despite them "fixing the loadtimes": the more items/more you use home, the longer it takes to actually GET INTO Home.

The avatar "ghosts" can pretty much wait until they fix this issue, IMO. As, that isn't a huge deal to me as I'm focused on talking to people ON MY FRIENDS LIST over the public at large.

SCEA's PS Home board says to wait for the hard-drive to stop accessing/yellow flashing before updating. The QA for the patches is a bit of a joke, but I guess that's what "beta" means for us. We're guinea pigs in a public ever-on-going beta.

I'm not a huge sports fan (in fact, I'm against a majority of sports and avoid watching them if possible) but I'm going to check this space out tomorrow given the rewards and stuff. Could be nice, esp. if it lets international interactions happen for once instead of having to create a different region account. :|

Is there any reason I should check it out again? Anything cool added?

If you gotta ask, you probably still won't like it.

It's still not reaching it's potential but at least they're trying to do something with it with new spaces now.

Anyway, if you gotta know:

Sodium one (not that great, but it's okay)
Irem Spaces from Japan (Beach is pretty nice for a 2005-based graphical beach)
EA Sports Poker (but that's glitchy and bugged and cheaters now. *siiigh*)
Godfather 2 space for Poker (but no one plays Poker there anymore since the EA sports space came out a month or so later last year)
Resident Evil 5 space if you have a save for the Wesker Sunglasses
Um...

Assassins Creed 2 space for reward items
Siren Space (pretty nice, still a bit crowded but less so than when it first launched)
Buzz Space (not bad, but the questions when I was last there are kinda shitty as it's "community based")

Home isn't great, but it's come a way from when it opened to the public two years ago.

So I'm guessing the Gold PS3 furniture item is for UK promo only? Sony EU sent out codes to redeem it if your UK/EU (PAL based actually) account has a decent amount of things purchased in the PS Store.

:lol I will never understand all the randoms with 0 trophies walking around Home. I mean, why do they have a PS3? Must be either second accounts used to pose like girls in Home, or...they really bought a PS3 just for Home and don't play any games.

Thank you for the run down. None of that really excites me but I think I'll check it out again for the hell of it anyway.

The Feva Space is pretty nice, but the shooting mini-game fucking sucks. You have 20 shots, but NO FUCKING CONTROL over making your shots count because of a stupid timer. You're trying to line up your shot (with the stupid bowling "WHOO MOVING AIMER") and suddenly the game locks a shot in because of that timer, thereby making you use one of your 15 misses.

And that stupid aimer can fuck itself. Trying to hit the middle panels is an exercise in frustration because you have to have decent reflexes to get it to lock ON the panel. :|

The prediction of matches booth gives you an award for making a prediction, meanwhile. Much easier to get than that shooting mini-game.

And the shooting mini-game is the first home game to actually use the queue feature that was implemented OVER A YEAR AGO on Home.

Maybe they have never synced their trophies to the server.

My brother does this all the time and he kinda keeps up with gaming. People who don't keep up with new features etc might not know they need to sync or even click on the trophy icon.

Yeah, the soccer game can go suck it's own balls. Fucking had to wait like 90 minutes in the queue, since they decided to only make one soccer game (instead of two, since there are two goals), and the problem with that was A) People not clicking accept when they were queued up, and B) some people quitting the game before it starts, causing it to be stuck, until the game decided to reset itself. It was a little fun though, but I won't be getting the silver or gold shoes for knocking all of the things down, or knocking them down without missing because it takes so Goddamned long to get in the game.

But the armband for betting on the games is pretty cool.

is there a problem with the v 1.36 patch?

tried to start home a couple fo times and it tries to DL the patch, but after accepting the DL it just says 'please wait' and then the PS3 beeps 3 times and resets?

Known bug, wait for the HDD light to stop flashing before starting the update.

Just logged onto Home and it seems that Home will be down for maintenance starting when the Sony conference starts. Anyone have any idea if there will be any announcements? Maybe an E3 space will launch with trailers etc of all the games.

They haven't said anything, tho last year they put up an event space and had E3 streaming live (didnt work at all...) and they gave away a few E3 t-shirts which were only available for a very short period.

I have all the shirts. And they... aren't that great. The black/white one is good. But yeah... :lol

The streaming wasn't Live. It went up a few hours after and was divided into segments. It worked for me.

Whole lotta stuff going on in Home now. They've released the Sony E3 both as a virtual space so you can walk around and catch trailers for a bunch of games. If you go through all the trailers there's a VIP room where you can watch some behind the scenes footage and additional content coming for Home (more vids to be added apparently). An arcade game (Cabin Boy) can now be bought and placed in your apartment. Tomorrow a new space called Playground opens up which is set in Brooklyn and has a bunch of games in it.

There's also other new Home spaces out there but I didn't have time to check them out.
