i wonder if sony's motto is now "live in your world... and live in ours too"

cute :lol

EDIT: Wow the plane thing looks nice, Sony could make a big deal out of this with appropriate advertising.

So what's the Far Cry gamespace like? I'm excited since I have it for PS3, but I don't know anything about it. Does it unlock a trophy, new game content, or is it just wallpapers and such?

Pretty dull. There's a very simple game in there and a somewhat interactive FC2 map + dossiers.

FYI, the message of the day suggests open beta will be available from around 4am PT tomorrow. They say there'll be downtime between 2am and 4am "so you won't be able to log into Open Beta until after that time".

It has a table game (maraqa something something).
It also has a more detailed game map with every guard post, ammo depot..etc pointed out.
Also has news paper clippings with ingame lore as well as info files on all the mercenaries.

wow ok cool

now if you have a JPN and EU account can you log into home on them? Do they have free stuff I should be trying to get right now?

That was one of the things i was expecting to get on Home, real arcade games but with their original replica,a MS pac man machine, things like that but i also want a tons of games from Capcom,Konami, sega and many other company's who did allot of 80's greatest arcade games.

So would you guys consider it (Far Cry gamespace) useful/helpful in anyway? Or is it the kind of thing that when you've seen it once, you never care to see it again. That would be a shame.

Well Gamespaces are like games. There are great ones and there are not so great ones.
Uncharted one could last you hours as there is the mystery surrounding the three closed doors and how to attain codes to open them..etc. It's really good looking as well (I believe it's the house you see in the background during the Uncharted intro, when Sully & Nathan leave Elena).

They have to make them useful by putting games in it that makes you want to come back to it. The Motorstorm Home space apparently has some kart racing game in it.

Damn, that Redbull plane game actually looks good. I really hope they are able to implement some cool game/home functionality. I want my GT5 cars in my Home garage!

THAT would be awesome. As long as I could arranged them (move them around) and open their door or have some inside camera to mess with.

I haven't really been following the whole HOME thing...

Are these gamespaces being used as promotional tools (obviously the Red Bull one is) or are they spaces open to people that already purchased the game?

EDIT: Well, that was fast... :lol

Replayable games at that, or events.

Spaces are like websites. A game space like this is like a promo site for a game. Whether you visit more than once or not depends on what's on the site. But even the "visit once" kind of websites still serve a purpose. For people who are particular fans of a game, they might also see more value in it as a meeting place for like-minded fans.

People will probably go to check out new things in Home, even if they're just 'visit once' things..

But, as I keep saying, the easiest way - IMO - to keep a steady stream of new things to see or do coming into Home is unlocking items for the player in home as they play games. There needs to be a constant stream of new things to see or do in Home, otherwise once you've seen it all, there's little reason to revisit regularly. But if I were unlocking things as I play games, I'd be popping into home frequently. While I played through the namco museum beta, I was visiting home very often. Imagining that across all my games, and it would be awesome.

whats that thing in the japan store? it looks like its home? its some kind of beta anyway.

not sure if i should install it or not incase it screws up

Which is why devs should consider putting Home spaces up before the games are released. So they could update them with new material as it becomes available. Do things like debuting new footage in Home or taking fan questions through that Home space.

Does Home split you up into servers based on location or is it just random? Like will you see the same people over and over again because the servers are split a certain way?

I think what Sony needs to do is really tie the individual games to home if they want to make it popular. They could potentially have optional trophies, quests, or tasks from the game that extend into home if they make it deep enough. Actually, giving Home its own separate list of trophies to start off with would be a great way to get people to explore it.

Also, having various rewards through Home for achieving certain milestones in your games is one of the best ideas. It could even be done on a publisher by publisher basis rather than a game by game basis. Meaning, if you collect 100 EA trophies, you can get some snazzy exclusive Home content courtesy of EA.

I haven't experienced Home yet, so I'm excited to try it out. I don't have high expectations initially, but I can see a lot of potential regardless.

Wollan, you're in Australia like me, are we getting this today? Or tomorrow?

Yea, that would be cool. I would love being able to go into a KZ2 space and have some dev's there to answer questions about the game once and awhile.

Also, this whole idea of using spaces as websites could be implemented in so many different ways. Imagine if Home was a place where you could not just find info on games, but info in general. Spaces could be created focused around high profile movies that have yet to be released with exclusive behind the scenes videos. TV studios like NBC or FOX could have their own spaces where they could push their upcoming or popular shows and broadcast the most recent news. Car manufacturers could have virtual dealerships where you could go to look at their new lineup of cars, or even test drive them. The possibilities are there, but the realization of these possibilities will determine whether Home is truly successful or not.

Finally, the PS3's featureset is complete. Everything they promised and more is now on the PS3..

not even close.

this isn't even the release and launch of home..it is still in beta and there will be tons of promised features not available.

I think that could work. Take the Motorstorm Home space that's supposed to have a kart racing game. They could make it where you can play it with or without Motorstorm: PR but if you have PR it'll allow you to unlock trophies in the kart racing game.

I'm in Norway now actually (for good) but yeah, you will get it. It's a 'worldwide' release and Australia is definitely among those considered.

some one touched on it earlier in this thread .. but i'm very interested in how home cn intergrate it's self into a game, launching wise.

now i've tried out warhawk launching and very handely it does give you the option to exit back into home.

but ..like ... i mean take hotshots golf for eg. that game uses the most god aweful virtual lobby system, like home for babies .... you could easliy FULLy replace that experience with a Home game space...

so yeh ... wonder if it's possible for some kinda streamlined system when you can be in home, be in a EA gamespace or something, game launch into a match, then when it ends drop right back into home.

so basiclly doing away with the games front end menu's etc completely... more match launching than just game launching

It's just called Open BETA because they'll add to it. It's not a BETA in the terms of just stress testing/finding bugs. This pretty much is the official release.

For immersion's sake, I'd also like to see the characters from the games implemented into the Home spaces. If voice work was added then the application becomes way too bloated, so that's probably a no-go. But just some models that you can speak to through text bubbles would be cool. They could also serve as help desks, or a place to claim your rewards, or give out objectives.

With a game like MotorStorm where there is no main character, a generic racer dude hopped up on Mountain Dew would work.

Also, they need to put the games music into the home spaces. I'd love to see the MotorStorm home space look and sound like the festival they're always showing in the background of the main menu. It would be like a rave party.

I probably missed this somewhere but where was it mentioned that trophies could be used as currency to purchase in game items? Was it in the home announcement and I missed it or was it mentioned by Sony previously or?

Sry out of the loop just a scoach lol

It's been tossed around a lot. Just a rumor. I'm not sure if Sony ever commented on it. I think it's a missed opportunity if they don't though. Home is setup so that the publishers can use the SDK and basically create and distribute whatever they want, I think that's 100% certain.

It was a rumour, not sure from where exactly, but Sony never suggested this themselves.

Seldom can I be arsed with trophies. If they are a 'currency' I hope there's other forms of currency.
Technically just playing games would eventually fetch you some kind of reward, it's not like you'd have to go out of your way. The other option would probably be real world money, but I'd think those items would remain separate from the free rewards items anyway -- just to avoid giving any kind of monetary value to trophies.

Your credit card might suffice :p

The whole trophies = currency thing was a rumour that probably isn't true anyway.

Unlockable items shouldn't all be purchaseable, however, IMO. Certain stuff should only be attainable if you've achieved various things in games.

Going to be interesting to see how populated home is tomorrow... Though I'm disappointed about trophies not equaling currency (though I doubted it would anyway).

I definitely don't believe Trophies will = Home dollars. Especially since the Home Store is just an extension of the PlayStation Store and utilizes the same Wallet and funding sources.

I DO believe that there may be rewards based on overall Trophy Level or something. Reach Level X get some limited edition sparkly Home items/clothes/whatever. And also, I expect individual devs to be able to reward players with promotional items based on their own criteria, whether it be Trophies or whatever.

Can't wait for all these "meh, I was in home and I will never visit it again. This is useless and boring. Who cares about this"-guys, who don't even own a PS3 ;-)

I think we will see plenty of Grandpa Simpson walking in and back out.

They mentioned that Home rewards will be given not only by game activities and Home activities but also by Trophy levels (this was mentioned a couple of weeks ago when they published the 1.0 changelist). There isn't anything like 'Home dollars' but you get rewards for overall PSN activities.

Can anyone explain to me how to use namco's arcade beta? How do I use it within Home?

You download the beta... play the games to earn Home "gifts", which range from clothing items, to decorations to arcade machines that you can place in your Home space and/or Clubhouse. If others have also taken part in the beta, they can play the arcade machines also through Home.

I would love this, but i really don't think it will ever happen because

-Home is 720P native and GT:5 is 1080p (completely different rendering engines)
-the models in GT:5 have many, many more polygons than anything in home.
-Polyphony Digital is busy enough just trying to get the full version ofGT:5 out sometime in the next couple years. (Can you say 'damage modeling?')
-What functionality would this add? You wouldn't be able to drive them, simply look, which you can already do from the game itself.
