PS3 Home Official Thread

Finally fired up 1.4 and ran through a bunch of areas to check the iq and try out some of the new features. SolidusDave made a pretty solid summary, but this felt like it loaded faster than the previous version. Avatars still pop up really slow which is really annoying.

Best thing yet though is that previously it felt like the engine had to work its ass off to keep the frame rate from dipping below 15-20, but now it was a really smooth 30fps almost all the time.

Now that they've fixed most of the fundamental tech flaws they can start integrating trophies and other persistent character development to really flesh out Home. :P

edit: also the new spotlights in the harbor studio look great.

UPDATE: Sony's just got in touch to say the stores have not been opened yet and will not be available until after the regular Thursday weekly update maintenance that will commence at 8am GMT tomorrow.

ORIGINAL STORY: GAME will open a shop in the PlayStation 3's virtual world, Home.

Two new areas of Moonbase have become available: Moonbase Shop and the GAME V store.

From terminals in the Moonbase, you can view and order boxed PS3 and PSP games for home delivery. New releases and back catalogue games are all available for purchase.

The GAME V store, accessed via a "jump hole" portal within Moonbase, sells branded merchandise and virtual items for Home avatars and personal spaces. We're promised new items every month.

Lots of interesting developments are on the way it seems. I wonder if Sony make a platform holder royalty fee on the games, and a percentage of the cost if its bought through Home? They could start raking in money if lots of people use this.

That's really pretty cool actually.

Yeah. I think we'll start to see more brand cross promotion with Home.

I'm not sure why GAME do not have an actual stop in the shopping centre. We'd walk in, choose a game, buy it and it would arrive at our doors. We could even buy used games.

What Sony need to do is have exclusive DLC unlock through Home activities. That would drive more people into Home. Imagine if a premium car for GT5 could only be unlocked through a GT5 space?

More retail games need to unlock home rewards too.

Will there be a GT5 space? The game is upon us.
In the last episode of PULSE they showed an avatar in GT gear, and some sort of circuit stadium in the background. Wouldn't surprise.

Is it still true that in the harbor apartment there are STILL no other objects you can decorate with besides that one stupid couch, chair, and cube??

I saw some of those Christmas items in the shots above, but in terms of default content there is literally nothing there besides one couch and a few cubes.

Sony says if you want more stuff, buy some.

I've got posters on my walls, lots of lights, some sofas etc. Haven't paid a penny for any of it.

There's tons of free stuff in Home. You need to check the spaces and play the games.

Right. It comes set up with a few items in the room layout by default. But its the basic white furniture.
But you can win so many items from the various minigames and spaces, hundreds of items. And that's without paying anything, let alone the amount of stuff for purchase.
The point is to get involved and travel through the spaces, play minigames, talk and interact. If you just want to walk in and setup your pad with many options, then the store is there for you, no traveling, work or interaction needed.

My favorite item has to be the poster you get in the LBP space. Its large, colorful and a nice glossy look to it. There's a similar one in the Motorstorm space. I hope the new video feature will extend to other TV's in Home, such as the humongous TV you get from the Assassin's Creed space. It must be 60-70 inches diagonally.

that mansion with theaters and televisions really showed how incredible home would be if you could play netflix or psn content through it

Yep. I see no reason why you can't have video channels in your private space. Stream everything that they are streaming in the movie theater, each item in a different channel.

Add youtube as a channel and it would be perfect.

I can see still their issues with streaming video from your hard drive though for others. Legal wise. Gamer wise, I would love that feature.

Stroll through to the extended Shopping Centre this week, where there are new additions! This week sees the return of an old friend – the Diesel store – and a new store for MyDeco, where you can find all of MyDeco’s content in one place. Finally, stop by Codeglue’s new store – the Cardboard Cartel – to check out their current range, and keep an eye out for new content from them coming soon!
Highlight of the week for me just might be the latest from the V-Store: a range of massive foam gloves in the shape of iconic handguns. These take the ‘Guns’ emote to a whole new level! Still on a gun-related theme, Heavy Water’s “Heavy Strike” cannon will be available in Furniture tomorrow! Place the Heavy Strike cannon in the personal space of your choice and then place your sights over your intended target and tap X to fire away. You can even drop two cannons across from one another and exchange fire with a friend!

Sony are hiring 8 more people to work on Home at their London studios, hopefully means they are looking to improve it a lot faster etc. Also shows that it must be pretty successful for Sony.

Meanwhile over in the V-store, you’ll find two new pool tables: the Judge Dredd table, and Skull table. There’s something fishy going on in the Lockwood store – guys and girls alike can purchase water-tight fish bowl helmets, complete with swimming fish!

Finally, you should follow us on Twitter! It’s the easiest way to stay on top of all the latest news and goings on with Home!

DDR in the Konami space is the laggiest thing ever. I freakin bombed in front of like 30 people because it felt like 15FPS for the duration of the minigame. :lol

wait theres ddr in the Konami space? ..... *boots up home*

*edit* This is soo laggy! My perfect combos are getting graded as Good and Boo. FUCK YOU KONAMI SPACE!

I noticed that you can buy Pyramid Head and Bubble Head Nurse costumes from the Konami space. Isn't it a little odd that they would brand it as Silent Hill 2 instead of just Silent Hill? Also, both costumes are based on the designs from SH2. I was expecting the movie/Homecoming designs since those are much more recent.

I'd love the PH costume, but $5? Really, Konami?

Novus Prime should be up and running, at least in North America.. wondering if anyone has tried it out yet?

I was there only for a couple of seconds and I promptly lefft becasue there wasn't much free stuff in today's update.

I guess if you really want impressions I could re-login tonight and poke around for you.

Well I have to fess up that I worked on it, was just curious how the launch went both sides of the pond..

I tried out Novus Prime pretty quickly. Did some freighter escort mission thing with a few random dudes and everything worked without a hitch.

There were tons of people in the "hub" playing it so the space took a little while to load up but my initial overall impressions are that it seems cool. I'll have to play around with it some more.

If you haven't found value in PSN+ yet you won't find it here. They could atleast give you the Plus icon lamp for free.

The doorway that seperates Plus- and Non-plus PSN users. That's bound to be a place of heated discussion. Poor bastards.

This is not meant as a troll but is there anyway to delete Home off the PS3? I'm sure its taking up space and since I don't use it I would like to free that up. I got a slim and it was already installed and in the XMB but I don't get any option to delete it.

Triangle on the Home icon in XMB->Delete. Then don't click the icon ever again. You can't remove that icon from the XMB. Yes, it's stupid as there is applications like Netflix I don't use cluttering my XMB. Bitch at Sony for that option and to put said items in the PSN store under an "application" section.

I just tried home for the first time on my PS3. I honestly thought it was going to suck the big one but suprisingly a neat little distraction. Plus doesn't hurt that it's free.

But I can already see myself getting microtransactioned to death since my player looks majorly lame.

Don't join the Dark Side!

I've got shit loads of stuff and I got it all for free. Just keep an eye out for events.

I have a feeling they'll recycle the quests, but throw in new rewards. Still, the space has a nice atmosphere so I look forward to getting back to it.
