PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

I'm starting to think my PS4 is borked. On my 18/1.5 connection via Wi-Fi, the 323MB FW update is estimated to finish downloading in about two hours. My downloads went at normal speed (about 2MB/s) on Sunday, but now they are just as bad as they were on launch day. What gives?

How do you install a game? Getting disc errors when I try to play killzone

If I'm lucky I get to play 5 min before the system is asking me to shut down the game because the disc is corrupted

Delete it from your system and then reinstall with the disc. should work!

PSN is experiencing high traffic again. That could be why. Someone posted a tweet from Sony in a different thread.

came home to install 1.51 (since i have all my settings on to download updates)...

come out of standby, and surprise, it didn't download! double checked settings and everything is fine to download in standby. whatever, it's only 300mb....estimated download time 3hours?!? good old psn.

edit: nm, resogun launched after pressing update later THREE times. wtf.

How many of you PSN folks experiencing trouble are on the left coast, or west of the rockies. I'm in Utah and the PSN has been flawless for me since day one. Download speeds max out my 50/10 connection and I haven't had a single connection hiccup.

which earphone did you buy?

I went all out and bought the BeoPlay H3, I heard good things about them though they are pretty expensive. There is a 3 year warranty along with them so I can replace them whenever. Super comfortable and great sounds. Though most earphones should sound decent enough where you don't need to go all out.

You do know those are going to be supported in an upcoming firmware right?

They actually were really painful for my neck. I'm not a big fan of big clunky headphones. I honestly think Sony hit a gold mine that they don't even recognize. People like me who do not like buying these heavy "gaming headsets" can purchase nice earphones that allow me to sound whore (the BeoPlay H3 have dynamic sound where it can let you know in which direction sounds are coming from).

Just to make sure I understand correctly- you don't have to manually choose to install games on PS4, right? They just automatically do whenever you insert a game disc the first time?

Correct, every time you insert a game it looks to see if it's installed. If it's not, it'll install it automatically. You're able to play once enough of it is installed and it continues to install in the background as long as the disc is inserted.

I'm not sure if the game continues to install when you are not playing the game but the disc is inserted. I would assume so.

Turned mine on just now, and downloaded the 1.51 update in 30 seconds. Halfway through installing now. I clicked on "more details" for patch notes, but it opened up the browser to the web page that simply states "increases stability" or something along those lines. Hopefully this makes PSN work better for everyone (been working great for me with minor hiccups here and there)
and Battlefield 4 works now

Ah amazon are sneaky bastards

Send 1 broken game and 1 working game on the B1G1 offer to us international buyers because they know there's nothing we can do

I'll just enjoy knack then

Maybe I'll buy killzone again when the price drops

So lucky PS4 owners, what's the final verdict on the best launch games to get on Day 1 for us Europeans? Need to finalize my pre-order.

Assassins Creed 4 and Killzone are what I am seconds away from getting...

I own Killzone, ACIV, LEGO Marvel, and BF4. I haven't even opened BF4, but Killzone, ACV, and LEGO Marvel are all great.

On the PSN front, Resogun is awsome, as is Flower and Sound Shapes. So far, I'm very, very satisfied with my machine. Looking forward to more games next year for sure, but for a launch, this is better than other launches I've experienced (Vita not-withstanding, which has been my favorite launch; I had over 10 games to play launch day on the Vita. It was great).

My PS4 dropped my Wi-Fi connection and now it's no longer connecting to it, even after I set up the connection in settings. Should I boot it?

Is it just me, or do the voice commands on PS4 work better when you're alone? I've tried to demo them a few times with friends, and it seems to be hit and miss from time to time, but solo is works 100% of the time. User error?

That said, I like the prompts to show you what options are available with voice commands. Great touch.

Well, I truly have enjoyed my PS4 so far. Resogun is cool, Killzone is STUNNING and fun and COD was great too. I don't get people hating on COD. I thought the graphics were great, the framerate never stuttered on me and it was very fun. The only complaint I might have had was that the game seemed awfully short, but oh well. It's been a blast so far. Really liking the PS4 and it's games and I'm very impressed by the system. I have the PS Eye as well and the facial recognition and voice recognition has been pretty much flawless so far as well. Good job, Sony!

Mine didn't download either! It just did in the last three minutes though so at least I'm getting good speeds. Did anyone's system actually download the update while in suspend mode?

I'm not getting my console til Christmas, but I picked up a DS4 so I have another controller to use with my PS3 and to hold myself over. I'll largely just echo what others have said. Feels great in the hand. Analog sticks are tiny, but I like how tight they feel. Zero deadzone. R1 and L1 are extremely satisfying to press. Triggers are not as springy as I would like, but are extremely comfortable. I think they actually feel largely the same as the DS3 triggers, but they're really made better by the fact that they now have a satisfying stop point. Would rate them just a step below 360 triggers. Option and share button seem a little too recessed into the controller. Face buttons seem different for sure, seem to have a shorter travel time, but I can't tell if I prefer them or not.

All-in-all, really happy with how it feels. Very comfortable to hold and a vast improvement over the DS3. Materials feel great, just feels like a real solid piece of hardware.

Now, if only my micro-USB cord would get here so I could use it.

Haven't posted in this thread in a while... but just wanted to say (and it's been said to death) but dear god did Sony hit it out of the park!

Did it 3 times in a row. Still didn't connect.

Try unplugging your router and waiting 30 seconds before reconnecting. Are you getting a decent signal with any of your other devices?

Also, try and unplug it for 10 minutes (PS4). I heard a mod say it as a common fix.

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Good list PXG. I like a lot of those suggestions. Especially the one about allowing PS home Button as a contextual press for whatever message, trophy, notification ect..

I feel like this one is going to be the new (ps3 clock) one:
- Include the controller’s battery charge on the top portion of the main menu. Also allow users to display the battery charge as a percentage instead of an icon

The system alerts you when it's low, and you can press the PS button to see the charge.

Also, it glows orange when you charge in standby and stops glowing when it's done.

And if you so happen to be away the moment that message appears. I had my controller shut down on me out of nowhere cause I missed the message. When playing you have no clue when the charge is done without having to check the ps button

Main gripe for me right now is ... why isn't the blue LED the main ON LED? Everytime that blue LED lights up during startup I feel a sense of loss when it is replaced by the white.

I wanted the blue LED to be the one you saw all the time. Glorious looking system vertical and that blue LED is godlike.

Also, 1080p uncompressed PNG image capability, saved to HDD and uploaded to anywhere you like please Sony.

Same with videos. Allow local storage of saved captures and uploading wherever you want.

I swear I keep losing my most recent Knack save data when I play via RP and then play on the PS4 the next day. The last two times I've lost at least fifteen minutes of progress.
