PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

2 dumb questions I've not seen anyone have an answer for yet./

How much bandwidth is required for an acceptable stream from the PS4 (please technical answers only, not guesses) - I tuned into a stream yesterday and my line was pulling down an average of around 130KB/s (around 1mbit)
I'm curious if that's all that's being sent up though ,or if twitch is re-compressing?

Question 2!
Can you charge a DS3 controller, in a standby PS4?

It goes by your upload speed. 3mb for decent quality (570p) 6/7mb(720p) for good quailty 10+ for full HD (1080p)

But im only going from experience.

Trying to play killzone using a vita is a test of endurance, why didn't they map the button layout for remote play,it's suppose to be the ps4 flagship title.

I ordered the Fifa bundle from Argos last night. It said it was in stock but when I confirmed the order it stated that stock could not be guaranteed and I should wait for an e-mail. Praying!

So it looks like 480p for the Aussies on ADSL2 :/ damn.
What about the charging, anyone with a PS3 DS3 controller wanna plug it into a standby PS4?

Well I plugged my DS3 into my ps4, the controllers lights lit up, so I think it's charging :s

Just remember, if you want to have the usb ports on during standby, you have to select that on the Options menu, they're turned off by default.

It only downloads and thereafter becomes selectable in the Notifications area after I start the game for the first time. I'd prefer that it would look for updates as soon as installation starts.

I think it just takes time. I had all my games downloading updates after starting the game so I thought it wasn't checking until I launched the game. But he later in the day he notifications told me it had downloaded update data for FIFA, and I hadn't played that yet (had just popped the disc in to install earlier I the day)

So it will download updates, I think maybe it just doesn't check immediately. It would make sense for it to do a check as soon as you start installing or downloading a game though

I was just wondering, as I've got only a tad above the minimum amount (10cm) of space at the back of the system, where the exhaust vents are located, that would it help if I put one of those laptop coolers underneath it? The system does get pretty hot during longer uses, especially when the game is on hold, and I'm in the UI. That's apparently the mode, that consumes the most power as seen in the chart below.

J1iyScH.png

The cooling fan noise might be louder than the 53-41dB shown in the chart, as I can clearly hear it three meters away when it's been on for hours.

Never had that happen here. Definitely dig around the settings and I'm sure you'll find a fix.

I'll have to browse through the settings, and see if there's something about it.

Is it true that you can say voice commands into the DS4 like "playstation, killzone, play" etc? If so thats pretty cool and nice for them to include that without needing the camera (although does the camera also have voice like kinect?)

The controller doesn't have a microphone.

It's true if you use the mono headset. The biggest surprise for me was how accurate it is at detecting English words from non-native English speaker like myself. Also, I had sore painful throat yesterday but the tech was still capable of recognizing my voice.

Also, "Playstation, [name of game] start" is the correct command. :p

It will flash when it's charging I think - thanks though at least we know it gets some activity in standby mode! Charging my DS3 is a nightmare (won't accept a wall port, don't want to leave the PS3 on for several reasons, plugging it into my HTPC in the lounge with DS3 drivers on it, fucks up what system it's syncd to!)

Those who called Sony support in the UK, what number did you call? The one on their website has had an out of hours message the last hour or so, the message even says that the line opens at 8am Sunday 1st.

Good to know. Is there a list of commands somewhere?

4bros, I have a question for you 4bros.

Can you for example log into SEN on the PC and remote start a game download to the PS4 if it is in stand by mode?
Btw, why is it PSN on PS4 and SEN on PC? I thunk it was going to be SEN from here on out?

4bro out.

That should work yes, it already works like that on the Vita.

If you say the word "PlayStation" it shows you the options at the bottom of the screen.
The voice commands worked surprising well for me too.

Yep. Most of the time did works quite well. I used it yesterday even when music unlimited was blaring out some MJ.

Also that it works at a normal talking volume is nice.

The only thing is that you have to know what the game needs to be called to make it work.

So eg, Killzone and Battlefield only need the first word, not a number or subtitle. Fifa needs Fifa 14, Trine 2 needs Trine 2, DCUO needs DC Universe.

It'll get more use from me once play and pause are put in for BluRay and media. But it's quite promising how well it's worked so early.

After using the PS4 controller for a bit I prefer the PS3 controller. PS3 has better face buttons and analog sticks, plus I can't really get into the PS4's triggers for FPS games.

Exactly the oposite experience here. The triggers aren't as slipply and the analog sticks seem to be more accurate, especially in FPS's.

Too bad the buttons aren't analog anymore. Awesome controller and awesome improvements.

So far i'm loving everything about the machine. The machine looks terrific, runs pretty quiet to me, good temps. Voice commands work really well, and the little info bar displaying what you can say is a nice touch. Playroom has some terrific experiences, especially for little ones. Background downloading is just a superb feature...so discreet. Gamewise, KZ looks fantastic, Resogun is just nuts! So much replayability! ACIV looks nice, but defo has the classic hallmarks of being a current gen focus. All in all im really happy. Next year should be an absolute stormer.

I've got a mixed feelings about the controller, as I've always loved the old DualShock design, and never had problems with it. When playing Resogun I noticed that I had to adjust my thumbs constantly, which never happened with the old sticks. The change in the shape of the controller makes it also a bit harder to use all the four shoulder buttons simultaneously. It's a good controller otherwise though, and I'm glad they kept the symmetric design.

No sales yet?
It's amazing Sony takes so long to announce sales, yet MS announces them before the system is even on the US market for 10 hours
MS are obviously better at counting.

can you play remote games on the Vita with the uk account if you've purchased it with the US account?
Yes, I do this with Battlefield 4 which I got from Amazon's US PSN's store for roughly $35. As long as the US account is activated to have your PS4 as its primary console you're good to go.

I never really was THAT bothered by the DS3, but I have to disagree. The DS4 is better for me in every single department for me.

They're probably going to post the total friday numbers tomorrow.

Black Friday numbers usually are posted on the following monday. Sony can now add the European numbers on top of those for maximum damage.

I'm waiting for MS to spin it, that they were the number one in sales, if there were no PS4s available at the time, and they kept XB1s reserved for Black Friday.

Any word yet on when we can expect Youtube upload to PS4?

Also allow image upload to someplace else, like a USB memory? Fuck Twitter and Faceshit. I refuse to get accounts there.

Definitely won't hurt. I bought one for my laptop because after a couple years it gets a little hotter than it used to. I used to rest my PS3 on top of it, but never used it for that. I might actually try and use it for my PS4 though, might help extend the life if it tends to get too hot. So far, my system doesn't seem to need to blast the fan like I've heard others mention. The system gets pretty warm though, so I bet anything will help.

I downloaded Warframe and DC universe that way. I thought the ps4 would come on then turn off. it didn't. Turned it on later the files where downloaded already :)

Thanks for answering my question. =) I'll probably get one next week, and see if it helps. Any recommendations for the coolers?

EDIT: How much they consume power by the way?
EDIT.2: It seems they work via the USB-port, which is a negative point, as I'll need one for charging the controller and one for the Bluetooth headset, once it's patched to work with the PS4. =/

Really not digging Killzone at all. The gameplay design is appalling. It's frustrating far more than it is ever rewarding.

There's no sense of 'flow' - I find myself getting lost all the time, having to use the objective button to see where I'm supposed to go, rather than intuitively being able to work it out for myself. There's just something really 'off' about it all and I've been playing FPS games since Wolfenstein 3D. Then there's the OWL and all the touchpad bullshit. Again, just cranked in there for the sake of it, but ultimately only to prove to be the cause of more frustration. The framerate is all over the place and there's loads of texture (or polygon) pop-in going on. Feels incredibly rushed.

Definitely my biggest PS4 disappointment by far, just can't enjoy the game at all - and trust me, I'm trying after all the hype. Everything else about the console is sublime, but I think that if this game was anything other than first party, very few would give it a second look. And absolutely no hyperbole intended.

Killzone is a shining light in shooter history for me. If you remember times before Doom3 nearly every good shooter set you off in a big environment and you had to dig yourself through audio logs, notes and hints. For me, egoshooter design like this is rewarding while CoD and BF bore the shit out of me.

Feels good to play the campaign. Sooo good.

I really miss fullscreen wallpaper and background music for the game library, like on PS3.

By the way, am I missing something or can't I do anything at all in the library except starting a game? Deleting one, for instance?

All three of my PSN games are displayed in the main menu. How determines the OS which games to display there? The three most recently played (or four, five)?
